Caught in a desperate struggle for survival, Robin's only solace is Will Scathelock, the man he has loved and resisted for years. Surrendering would be easy, but the stakes have never been higher. Carra's Review

N.B. Dixon continues to show with the conclusion to the Outlaw’s Legacy series the exceptional writing talent I first witnessed when this series began.  I was drawn to the first book by it’s unique take on the Robin Hood legend, sucked into that story with the writing, angst, and tension as it set the stage for the series; fully entranced by it and then the second book as things became more complicated, emotional and kept me on the edge of my seat.  And now here in book three while it did seem to drag a bit for the first half, once I got past that I couldn’t put it down—especially the last quarter where everything became incredibly intense as all that had been building since the beginning of the series finally came to its explosive peak.

I’ve become so invested in all of these characters, it feels like the things that are happening to them are affecting me personally as I feel like a part of Robin’s group.  As frustrating as certain relationships are, and as irritated as I may have become with the way things left off after the second book, the author does a fantastic job of bringing resolution to everything here in Earl of Huntingdon.  There’s intrigue, treachery, action, romance, angst, tension…all in an accurate historical backdrop.

If you’re following this series for the M/M romance aspect, you’ll be glad you’ve stuck through everything, even when things don’t seem to be going the way you might want them to go.  If you’re following for your love of the Robin Hood legends, there’s plenty here to continue sparking your imagination.  The story gives a satisfying and believable conclusion, even given the very early historical setting (which we all know is not a time tolerant of same sex pairings).  If you’re here for the action and excitement, the suspense starts spilling over in the second half of the story and will definitely keep you drawn in.

Much of the story puts the romance secondary to the drama, action, and storytelling but still keeps it there in your periphery the entire time until things become fully resolved.  You’ll find resolution not only for Robin and Will, but also for many of the secondary characters that, if you’re like me, you’ve probably grown quite attached to over the course of the series.

Earl of Huntingdon gets 4.5 stars from me; If the first half didn’t feel like it was moving slowly to me I definitely would have gone for the full five stars.  This series should be read in order; if you don’t you’ll likely find yourself lost and not able to appreciate the full impact of the characters’ journeys.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for scenes of violence in battle, as well as some sexual content.
