New Release & Giveaway: THE ARRANGEMENT by Alex Jane (A Homestead Legacy Story)

Buy Links:

Length: 56,000 words approx.

Blurb

1895. New York.

Gabriel Webster’s pack is in trouble. His father’s failing health and his mother’s untimely death mean that the vultures are circling. It won’t be long before his family’s assets are stripped and his pack disbanded. When an offer of help arrives in the form of a marriage of convenience, he has little choice but to accept.

The arrangement would be the perfect solution, if not for one thing. Gabriel is to marry Nathaniel Hayward, the Alpha who was badly injured in the accident that killed his brother ten years before—and the man Gabriel has been in love with for as long as he can remember.

Trapped in a business arrangement masquerading as a marriage — in a strange, empty house with a damaged husband who barely tolerates him — isn’t what Gabriel expected from life.

But sometimes the last thing we want is the beginning of something more.

And an ending can be the start of something beautiful.

About the Author

After spending far too long creating stories in her head, Alex finally plucked up the courage to write them down and realized it was quite fun seeing them on the page after all.

Free from aspirations of literary greatness, Alex simply hopes to entertain by spinning a good yarn of love and life, wrapped up with a happy ending. Although, if her characters have to go through Hell to get there, she’s a-okay with that.

With only a dysfunctional taste in music and a one-eyed dog to otherwise fill her days, Alex writes and walks on the South Coast of England—even when her heart and spellcheck are in New York.

Review, Excerpt & Giveaway: FIGHTER by TM Smith (Survivor Trilogy #3)

FIGHTER
Survivor trilogy book 3
by TM Smith

Synopsis

Dedication and smarts have given Blair Cummings a leg up in the Bureau. His job is all-consuming but rewarding. It doesn’t leave much time for a love life though, not that Blair believes in love. At nearly thirty, he’s only ever been in one long-term relationship due to his inability to commit to anything other than his job and his family.

Born into a family that is as successful as they are hateful, Howard Manning Tullor Junior ran so far away from his last name that he wound up in the arms of Satan himself. Freedom comes at a high price but it’s one Mannie is willing to pay, setting him on a path that leads him to a quiet, laid-back FBI agent.

Their attraction is unexpected, and yet, welcomed. Blair seems to have finally found something worth fighting for, but Mannie, still haunted by ghosts of the past, wonders if he’ll ever be able to move on. The two are working toward their future, but can a budding romance survive when past and present collide?

Excerpt

Legs shaking, fingers twitching, Mannie rested his forehead against Blair’s, his emotions a tangled heap of want, need, and fear. He wanted Blair more than he’d ever wanted anything in his life, and that desire scared the living shit out of him. Fire danced down his spine as Blair’s fingers left a trail of heat, hands resting on his hips. “I want you too, so very much, but you deserve better than you’ve been given in the past, Mannie. You’re worth more than that.” The last few words were just a whisper, Blair’s lips brushing his softly.

“No, I’m not.” Stubbornly, he tried to step away, but Blair’s firm grip held him in place.

Eyes blazing with anger was an image that would forever be imprinted in his brain; he’d seen it nearly every day for the three long years he’d spent with Bruce. But the outrage wrapped around Blair’s expressive blue eyes like a firecracker in the sky, that wasn’t aimed toward him. No, the animosity in the sexy man’s gaze looked through Mannie, beyond him, as if turning back time to intimidate and promise retribution to a man that was no longer a part of Mannie’s life. “Yes, you are, to me.” Squinting, Blair gentled his hold, sliding his hands up Mannie’s chest, cupping his cheeks. “You deserve to be held close as you fall asleep in my arms knowing you’ll be safe, treasured, cherished. To be kissed softly at first.” Eyelids fluttering shut, Blair leaned closer, the barest brush of lips over his like a leaf swaying side to side at dusk on a gentle breeze. “Then deeper, passionately.” Blair’s strong hand grabbed him by the nape of the neck, fingers twisting in Mannie’s hair as he dove into his mouth, the kiss frantic and heady, making him feel intoxicated and dizzy.

Blair’s warm tongue traced the seam of his lips once, twice, before he pulled away, sucking in a few deep breaths. “I want you too, Mannie. Please, don’t doubt that. But this”—Blair leaned back against the counter and waved his hand between them—“is the foundation of a relationship built on friendship and trust, and I think we should take it slow. I want to continue to get to know you, Mannie, and for you to get to know me. I want to date you. Take you to see a scary movie so you can curl into my side and cover your eyes. Bring you home and make out on the doorstep like crazy, hormonal teenagers.”

Carra's Review

From the moment Mannie appeared in person in Lover, and the spark with Blair was evident when he was with everyone in his interview, I was immediately attached to them and couldn’t wait for their story.  Given Mannie’s past I knew their book should be the most emotional of the series.  That said, this series is meant to be read in order as you’ll find references to events that happened previously here, so make sure you’ve read Survivor and Lover first.

We really get to see more in depth the horrible things Mannie had to live through not just with Bruce, his ex, but also with his own family before that.  Blair provides the perfect counterpoint for him, being patient, considerate, and gentle with him even before they start a relationship.  Blair’s protective, nurturing nature is very evident here, and is exactly what Mannie needs.

I did think that their relationship moved pretty quickly, and the beginning of it did seem to skim over the details to get them to the point where they were more comfortable and settled as a couple.

Though this is the final book in the trilogy, there are still some drama and surprises to be found as things are tied up with Mannie’s family—but also an interesting twist with some favorite characters in the series.  And I have to say, the Director (FBI, Blair and Rory’s boss) has been raising my interest with the role he plays in things.

If you’ve been following the series, you’ll want to check Fighter out to see how things wrap up.  For me, this was hovering between 3.5-4 stars, mostly due to the rushed feeling Blair and Mannie’s relationship had.  This book is for readers 18+ for adult language, sexual content, and references to past abuse.

EXCERPT

Will turned to him, with a determined set to his mouth, and asked to kiss him again. “Properly,” he said, huskily. “I’m struggling to keep my hands off you.”
Wow. No one had ever asked Donnie’s permission. Not about kissing, and not about very much at all. Donnie couldn’t stop grinning as he slipped an eager hand around the back of Will’s neck and tugged him in for a proper snog. The windows steamed up pretty quickly. If they hadn’t been stuck in their seat belts, and Will’s car had been anything larger than a new model Mini, who knows what might have happened? Could have been arrested for indecent exposure, if Donnie had his way.
“Do you want to come in for coffee?” he asked when they broke for air.
Will looked despairing. “I want to. Believe me, I do. It’s just… I have an early call I promised to a client, and I need to do some reading up on this particular cat’s problem before we meet.”
Donnie nodded slowly, watching the expression in Will’s eyes. It certainly looked like genuine regret. There was no mistaking how aroused he was under those expensive trousers. He ran his palm across Will’s chest, shamelessly feeling Will’s nipples harden under the cool fabric. He slid a finger cheekily in between two of the buttons. Then, sighing, pulled his hand away again.
Will gave a heartfelt groan. “Donnie?”
“Hm?”
“Tomorrow? Can I see you tomorrow? Is it too soon?” He laughed, a tremble in the sound. “Am I coming across too needy?”
“That’s okay by me,” Donnie said. Oh, but how!
“We can have an early supper again. Don’t let them bully you into working late.”
Will had been listening, possibly too closely, to Donnie’s work woes. Or Donnie had been complaining too much. “No,” he said. “I’ll try.”
Still he was reluctant to let go. His fingertips kept tracing Will’s cheek, his ear, the edges of his neatly trimmed beard, the line of sinew to his throat. And when Will leaned his forehead against Donnie’s and kissed him again—sexy, even though it was with a closed mouth, and despite the fact the gear stick must have been jabbing him in the belly—it looked like Will was just as reluctant.
Donnie stood at the doorway into his building watching Will drive off until his car vanished around the bend.
Will.
Looked like he had it bad.

About the Author

Clare took the pen name London from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with the weekly wash, waiting for the far distant day when she can afford to give up her day job as an accountant. She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy.  Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic and sexy characters.

Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter 3 stage and plenty of other projects in mind . . . she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.

Excerpt

“Be still, Sunshine,” Vale says commandingly, giving my body no choice but to obey, going limp in his arms. “You’re the most tempting, insanity inducing man I’ve ever met,” he accuses affectionately, my mind short circuiting when his lips brush against the base of my neck.

“Please,” I whimper again.

“Shh,” he soothes. “I want you to listen, because this is what we’re going to do.”

The calm domination in his tone settles the place deep inside me that craves direction and structure, to be taken care of by someone who knows better than I do.

“Yes,” I say breathlessly.

“Good boy. Now, first you’re going to give me your fingers to lick clean because I don’t think I can go another minute without a taste.” I groan in agreement, and he brushes another kiss against the back of my neck. “Then, we’re going to get out of bed, and I’m going to make breakfast. We’re going to talk about that kiss and where we go from here.”

Part of me wants to argue that talking is overrated, that I’d much rather have him bury himself inside me, and we can figure things out sweaty and screaming instead of talking over coffee. But the other part of me, the part that went all mushy and calm at the use of his Dom voice, is ready to give Vale anything he asks for if he’ll just tell me I’m his.

“Yes,” I answer, and he groans his approval, his c*ck jerking against my ass, clearly excited by my easy submission. I’ll say yes to anything to hear him make that sound again.

With great effort, I manage to let go of my c*ck. Vale’s grasp is still around my wrist, guiding my hand, making sure to slick my fingers with more precum before pulling it out of my underwear and to his mouth. I moan as his hot lips engulf my fingers, sucking them in and holding them in place as his tongue flicks over the tips, seeking out every drop of my arousal.

He grunts as he sucks my fingers clean, my eyes rolling back in my head as I imagine exactly how the same treatment would feel farther south.

“God, you taste even better than I imagined,” he praises in a raspy voice when he finally releases my fingers.

“You imagined what I’d taste like?”

“You have no idea, Sunshine.”

Carra's Review

I haven’t read many puppy play books, but those I have read have all leaned towards the sweet, affectionate side which I’ve loved.  Here in Heel we see that as well, but to get to that point we first have to get started with the hurt/comfort part of things (and I’m a big fan of this trope!).  Be warned, there is a short scene of domestic violence to get through first, but it’s that scene that sets the stage for the rest of the story.

Adrian is just the sweetest, most giving young man; it’s hard to picture anyone wanting to hurt such an adorable guy.  He had a rough start when he first left home at a too-young age.  Unfortunately, some guys will take advantage and that’s the situation we find Adrian in at the start of the story.  Vale, who helped Adrian get on his feet when he was younger, is a perfect example of a protector—caring and willing to help in any way.  Though he put boundaries in place between Adrian and him the first time around since Adrian was so young then, it’s not quite so easy this time around.

The healing process does proceed as expected, and Adrian and Vale do make a great couple.  Adrian’s ex does come up a few times, but then just kind of disappears and we don’t get to see any real resolution on that front until the absolute end of the book.  The story is much more focused on Adrian and Vale’s relationship, and Vale helping Adrian move on from the abuse.

For me, Heel wound up being somewhere between 3.5-4 stars.  I’m wavering since the issues between Adrian and his ex didn’t feel fully resolved to me, though we do find out his ex’s fate in the epilogue.  This is still a fun read, especially since Adrian can be a naughty pup, and I think fans of the Daddy/puppy dynamic will enjoy this story.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content, along with the aforementioned scene of domestic violence which may be a trigger for some readers.

About the Author

Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she's not writing she's a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero...just kidding, she's likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
