For fifteen years, Gideon had everything, but then tragedy strikes, leaving him alone once again.

CALLUM WHYTE was raised with every conceivable luxury but one: loving parents. When his father is indicted for federal crimes and his assets frozen, Cal has to learn to survive with nothing. When a friend offers him money to spend the night with the hot older man they all call Daddy, Cal has no choice but to say yes or literally risk going without medication he needs to stay alive.

One night with Daddy Gideon leaves Cal’s head spinning and his body longing for something he never thought he’d want: discipline. Too bad Gideon never plays with the same boy twice, not even ones who beg as sweetly as Cal.

Just when Cal thinks all hope is lost, he discovers Gideon is the new headmaster for his school, leading him to devise a plan to get what he wants by blackmailing the older man into spending the next six weeks with him. Excerpt from book 3

“Come back inside, Cassidy,” he urged. “I don’t know why, but I don’t like the vibes I’m getting out here tonight.”

Teag’s intuition is fueled by strong magic, so I take his “vibes” seriously. I’m pretty good with both intuition and magic myself, and I felt a shiver go down my back. “There’s something out here,” I murmured, looking down the alley toward the streetlight at the end and seeing a dark shape in the roadway I had not noticed before.

“That’s what I’m trying to tell you,” Teag said. “Come back where it’s safe.”

Wardings protected the old antique shop against dark magic. Salt and iron lay beneath the sill of every door and window to repel evil, and as an added protection, sometimes we had a nearly six-hundred-year-old vampire staying in the secret room in the shop basement. Teag and I both wore protective amulets, and when it came to defending ourselves, we were no slouches. So when I lingered a moment longer, I took a calculated risk.

“We need to see what that is,” I said, jerking my head toward the lump that lay near the far end of the alley. I let my athame slide down beneath my sleeve into my hand and jangled the old dog collar on my left wrist, smiling as the ghost of a large dog appeared at my side. Teag muttered something under his breath and joined me a moment later, carrying a wooden martial arts staff and a wicked knife.

Together, we advanced on the shape, which lay still in the dim glow of the distant street light. A mangy cat paced near the body, staying just out of reach as we approached, even though Bo’s ghost growled and stepped toward it. If the cat could see Bo, the ghost dog didn’t intimidate him. I paid attention to what my senses were telling me, shivering at the resonance something evil left in its wake. Yet the closer we got to the thing in the road, the more certain I became that the threat itself had come and gone.

Tales from the Gemstone Kingdoms, Book 2

Created by the alchemist Braxton, Levi was “born” fully grown and spends his early days learning about the monster-filled kingdom he calls home.

Even though he is just a construct pieced together from cloned parts, Levi longs to fit in with his mythical neighbors, but more than that, he wishes he could say two words to the Shadow King without stuttering.

Ashmedai has been king of what was once the Amethyst Kingdom since it was cursed a thousand years ago. Only he and Braxton know what truly happened the night of the curse, and Ash’s secret makes walking among his beloved people painful, so he rarely leaves his castle. However, with Festival Day approaching, Ash wouldn’t mind going out more often... if it means seeing more of Levi.

Ash wishes he deserved the longing looks from those strangely familiar violet eyes. He knows no one could love him after learning the truth of the curse. But if anyone can change his mind, it is the sweetly stitched young man who looks at him like he hung the moon.

Excerpt

“Ash!” Klarent proclaimed. “We were just talking about you.”

Levi’s eyes snapped to the man who had entered.

Ashmedai.

The Shadow King.

Every time Levi saw him, it was as if his stitched-together limbs were about to unravel, and he felt both unable to move and as if he might collapse to the ground in pieces at any moment.

The king was just so beautiful. Levi didn’t even know if he understood beauty, but to him, Ashmedai was it.

His skin was white as bone, his hair long, straight, and ebony black, with black in place of the whites of his eyes, white irises, long nails, almost like claws, all his teeth razor-sharp, and pointier ears than Levi’s subtle tips, like Levi had read about elves.

Like Daedlys, Ashmedai wore all black, but with stitching and accents in red and gold. He looked so royal, with a brocade tunic and long cloak. He wore no crown, but when he moved, the shadows moved with him, as if drawn to his regal presence.

Levi could relate.

“Daedlys, my friend, Dreya pointed out that my sword belt is in need of mending, possibly replacement, before next week’s hunt. What do you recommend? And what’s this about talking about me?” He turned with a mildly amused smile toward Klarent.

Ashmedai’s voice was deep and penetrating, so much so that Levi could feel it rumble through his chest. Ashmedai was king and not often seen around town, yet he acted toward his people as if they were all the same station, allowing anyone who wished it to call him “Ash” and consider him friend. From what Levi had been told, Ashmedai had always been that way, since the start of the curse, when the once Amethyst Kingdom’s prince brought calamity upon the people and Ashmedai became king in his stead to save them.

He didn’t float like the others but carried such a commanding presence in his steps, Levi’s breath was lost again and again while looking at him.

The white-on-black eyes Levi was staring at suddenly turned toward him, likely having felt the weight of his gaze, and all at once, Levi could move again—because he had to.

“Th-thank you, Sir Daedlys,” Levi stuttered, half muffled by the fabric of his hood. His feet reacted before he’d consciously considered running, because the panic of being perceived by the king made him desperate to get out from under those eyes.

“Hang on, Stitches, have you met—”

“Another time!” Levi all but shrieked, ducking his head to scurry from the shop, and then just as quickly fled from the market.

Carra's Review

With this second story in the Tales from the Gemstone Kingdoms series, the author once again delivers an intriguing tale filled with a complex plot that keeps you wondering throughout the book.  Wondering about the true story behind the Amethyst Kingdom’s curse, how the curse will be broken, Levi’s existence, what happened in Ashmedai’s past that causes him such sadness, and what exactly Braxton is doing to help break the curse.

I absolutely adored Levi.  He views the world through a fresh lens since he was recently created, giving his character a sense of innocence.  He’s sweet, kind, and sees others without prejudice or preconceived notions based on their physical forms.  He has his own shyness to overcome, and thanks to the wonderful people around him that is a hurdle he easily handles.  Ashmedai (Ash) complements him perfectly, and despite his internal struggles is an excellent leader of the kingdom.  The relationship that emerges between them is never rushed, and everything about them together just feels right.

Just when you think you see where the story is going, unexpected revelations and additional twists start popping up.  It kept me guessing as I read, and much of the last third of the book it felt like things became more and more complicated…almost too much so.  But it definitely keeps you on the edge while reading, and Ash’s unique “other” nature and how it manifests made for some breathtaking scenes.

Stitches was a 4.5-star, very enjoyable read for me, and while you probably could read this story on its own, I’d recommend reading the series in order so you can better understand the references made to the other kingdoms. Fans of fantasy and fairy tale romance will delight in the wide range of quirky characters to be found here; their individually distinct physical characteristics made for some unforgettable images for sure.  This book is meant for readers 18+.

As his past closes in, his only hope lies in one man—an unaware human whose vanilla and spice scent and easygoing attitude draw Alec in. “You don’t even have a television.” The pout in Collin’s voice was rather sad.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, Alec sighed. He didn’t really have the need for a television and rarely had guests aside from Ari. He didn’t make it a habit to mentor other preternatural creatures in his own home.

Maybe it was time to change that.

He could introduce Collin to one of his favorite radio dramas. “Grab yourself a drink and have a seat. Alexa, play War of the Worlds from my library.”

When the intro started playing, Collin groaned. “Really? You’re going to make me listen to this?”

Alec held a finger to his lips. “Just wait.”

When the program had first aired, he and Ari had been living in New York City. They’d spent months calming down the preternatural community afterward. Every creature that had reached out had been afraid the humans planned to pull together a militia to hunt them down.

Collin’s complaints grew silent when the announcer interrupted La Cumparsita to describe a series of explosions observed on Mars. As soon as the music started again, however, the kid acted like Alec was trying to torture him.

This generation had no appreciation for the classics.

The scent of miso soup followed Ari into the apartment just as the intermission started. Her sigh was a little dramatic. “Really? Did you not get enough of this nonsense when the trolls started demanding asylum in Canada? Alexa, pause the program.”

Alec grinned at the memory. At least he wasn’t the one who had ended up dealing with those particular trolls. “I was just trying to broaden Collin’s horizons. Not all entertainment comes in the form of TV.”

“What about all those audiobooks I got for you?”

Alec made a face. “Did you have to get me books that equate to shifter porn?”

Collin choked on his drink. “She got you what?”

“Well, it is not like he has his own love life.”

Heat rushing to his cheeks, Alec lobbed one of the throw pillows from the couch in her direction. He smiled when she huffed at him. Served her right for buying him so many fecking pillows.

DotM Teaser 2

Carra's Review

Debut novel?  Could have fooled me.  As the first in the Secrets of the Moon trilogy, this new author has completely hooked me for the rest of the series.  I will say that the very beginning did feel like I was dropped into an already in progress story, and that maybe I had missed something as I was reading.  Turns out this was more of a “tell-as-you-go” type style where bits and pieces were revealed along the way.  Apart from that—which for me was a minor hill over which to tumble—everything else in this book had my full attention.

The two main characters, Damien and Alec, were each amazing in their own right.  Damien was extraordinarily compassionate, exhibiting a high level of empathy that made him a more than an ideal match to Alec.  Alec has been through so much, making it difficult for him to let anyone other than his long-time friend Ari get close; Damien easily blasts right through those barriers, even without knowing about Ari’s past—or his present.

The supporting characters were just as intriguing, and Ari in particular was quite complex.  For much of the story I couldn’t settle on how I felt about her, though in the end the events that transpired made everything clear.  The mystery aspect of the story made it so I couldn’t figure out who the baddie was, not realizing until right near the end…which of course meant that I was on the edge for the majority of the book.

Not everything is fully resolved here, which sets the stage for continued books in the series,  There are also a few characters that caught my eye who I’d like to see more of later on.  There was enough resolution in this story though to feel like a mini-conclusion for now, yet still have me watching out for the next one in the series,

4.5 stars for Death of the Moon, and I would absolutely recommend this to any M/M paranormal romance/mystery fan.  This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Love is for other people, not for me.

At least that’s what I believed, until I met him

Julian Hill.

The most famous rock star on the planet. A music god with untidy hair and the voice of an angel.

I’ll never be anything but out, and he has very good reasons to stay in the closet.

After all, every move he makes is dissected, critiqued, and posted on social media, so he just wants a little privacy.

I understand that. Truly.

But no one makes me feel the way he does, and I’m pretty sure he has feelings for me as well.

Which is inconvenient since his record label hired me to sue him.

I should’ve sorted things out before I kissed him.

Oops.

Ambiguous is a forbidden mm rock star romance about a fashion-forward singer who hates labels of all kinds (except for clothing), a dapper attorney who already has a (fake) boyfriend for a very good reason, and the possibility of love saving the day.

Excerpt

Julian takes my breath away. While I’ve met plenty of celebrities, with him I feel this hit to my solar plexus. I freeze, because he’s so hot it’s too much to process.

Dark, perfectly mussed hair. Dark brown eyes. Tan skin.

His black pants are painted on, highlighting his lanky form. He’s wearing heeled black boots with chains on them and a loose, lacy, unbuttoned blouse and piles of long pearl necklaces. Rings on every finger click as he fidgets. His Adam’s apple moves as he drinks from a bottle of water.

He started with a boy band a decade ago. And, while I listen to plenty of pop music, I’ve intentionally ignored him just to piss Emily off. I’m mature like that sometimes. I’m not sure why I even started that—she and I love a lot of the same music and go to concerts together whenever we can, but at some point I decided he was just too cheesy, and then it became a thing. Julian is now on his own, the only one from his original group to have a successful solo career.

Of course I’ve heard his music. I’m generally aware of him, because I live in a condo in America and not under a rock cut off from communication with the outside world.

I’ve just never put his songs on voluntarily. Now I wish I knew more about him.

The table’s been set up for the meeting with bottles of fancy water and carafes of coffee. Readying himself for introductions, Julian sets down his water and stands up.

I walk over to shake his hand, and it’s like it happens in slow motion. One second I’m standing, and the next my toe hooks on a chair leg and I go flying. My flailing wrist manages to knock his open bottle of water from the table, and I take him down to the floor in one fell swoop, splashing water all over him as I go.

He lands on the industrial carpet with an “Oomph,” and I end up sprawled on top of him.

Heat singes my cheeks. Oh sh*t, oh sh*t. I won’t blame him if he pulls a diva fit after I ruined his clothes. They’re next season’s Gucci.

I start mentally updating my résumé.

“Oh my god,” I whisper, fumbling up to the table to grab a stack of paper napkins from the coffee service while struggling to get off of him as fast as I can.

Julian frowns, and then he jackknifes up to a sitting position, forcing a laugh. His now-wet shirt leaves little to the imagination, revealing the shapes of tattoos scattered all over his chiseled torso. I kneel at his feet and start wiping his pants, only to realize that, yeah, I’m trying to dry off the crotch of a Grammy-nominated recording artist.

“Oh my god,” I repeat. “I’m so sorry.”

I can’t stop dabbing at his crotch.

With a white napkin.

That’s leaving shreds of wet lint.

On his dark designer pants.

I’m making it so much worse—and my reaction to him is getting worse, too. Partly because there’s a bulge underneath that zipper, and it’s not small. Like, not at all small. Partly because he smells amazing—like maybe rum and vanilla—which makes my body hum and my c*ck wake up.

Even though I don’t live my life as a train wreck, apparently it can get derailed in one second flat.
