Carra's Review
You know, I’m actually glad I didn’t read this when it was serialized…I’d likely would have gone stir crazy waiting for each installment because as a finished book I couldn’t put it down. This was a unique storyline, with characters whose lives I quickly became invested in. It was easy to care about Christopher with his tragic life and circumstances. He’s the classic underdog figure you can’t help but root for in hopes that he’ll find his happily ever after.
Then there’s Samyaza, or just Sam for short. As the story begins he is the epitome of indifference to humans and their suffering, but there’s just something about Christopher…and whatever that something is, they actually become a great complementary match.
Both of them experience plenty of growth as characters, and this is especially true for Sam given how deeply ingrained his attitude and ideals have become over his very long time on Earth. Sam is working towards his own final demise, literally dead set on seeing his mission through. But Christopher throws a wrench into things, and interestingly enough vice versa. It’s a case of both going from having nothing to lose to having everything to lose, so you can obviously expect a dose of angst as the story progresses.
Though there may have been a few points where I thought the story could have been tightened up a bit, overall I was pretty completely pulled in, especially as things came to the dramatic conclusion. It was enthralling enough for me to give it 4.5 stars, and this story will definitely be one I re-read in the future. Where the Devil Don’t Go is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and erotic sexual content.
