Lucky Coleman is on his knees when he meets a man with more money than sense. It’s a Grindr hook-up for cash, not a love match, but dreaming of his desperate, kind eyes earns a place amongst his numerous bad habits.
Meeting once was risky, twice pushes Dom’s courage to the limit. Losing Lucky seems inevitable, but his tight grip on his image counts for nothing when Lucky starts to fall.
Catching him could cost Dom everything, but if he can set his heart free, getting Lucky long term might be a risk worth taking.
Carra's Review
The synopsis for this story caught my eye right away since I love sports romances, and the fact that it has a closeted player clued me in that I could expect some angst. This wound up living up to my expectations with Dom’s struggles, but also gave me Lucky—and his own set of troubles that are light years away from Dom’s life.
The fact that sports today are still as backwards when it comes to LGBT+ players is something that ticks me off, so Dom already had a place in my heart when the story began. As for Lucky, I loved that he was a survivor of the streets, and still was trying to better himself even if he retained some bad habits. Dom and Lucky may seem like an odd match, but they actually work well together and definitely have chemistry—and not just physical.
Dom meeting Lucky is a clear turning point for Dom when it comes to his personal and professional life, and here we get to see him go through the realization of what’s important to him. Lucky plays a huge part in this, and is the catalyst for pivotal decisions Dom makes. But Dom isn’t the only one going through changes, and Lucky has his own as he works to make a better life for himself.
There are a few supporting characters that play critical parts, including Lucky’s best friend Jamila, his boss Jim and coworker Cash, and Dom’s agent Isha. It may seem that Jim and Cash play minor parts, but they both provide pivotal chances for Lucky in his journey, which is why I consider their parts important. Isha, for all that he pisses Dom off, is important to him behind the scenes. And Jamila provides support for Lucky in so many ways that she’s a big part of the reason that Lucky is a survivor.
Overall, Lucky was a solid 4-star read for me, and I would recommend this story to any fan of M/M romance—especially if you like closeted player stories. My interest is definitely piqued for Cash’s story, I can’t wait to grab it once it’s out! This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language, some drug use, and sexual content (Dom and Lucky are pretty freaking hot together!).
