New Release-Excerpt & Giveaway: STRAY AWAKENING by F.A. Ray (Rainbow Rescue Cat Café #1)

Stray Awakening RB Banner

Stray Awakening
By F.A. Ray

book 1 epub cover png

Rainbow Rescue Cat Café, Book 1

I fled my hometown seven years ago. I never planned to come back. I never planned to give up my city life for a small town. And I definitely never planned to fall for another man.

Henry

Tripp Lake, the place I love the most. Working at a cat café on Main Street gives me a chance to get some deserving cats their forever homes.

But when a blast from the past walks into my café, I’m not sure what to feel. Alex was always hot and popular in high school – and straight.

So it’s a shock when he keeps accepting my invitations to hang out. I don’t think I’m imagining the spark between us, but is Alex actually interested in me, or am I letting this straight boy break my heart?

Alex

Tripp Lake, the place I hate the most. I’m only here because of my father’s heart attack. But the second I return home, I remember all the reasons I ran away.

My parents are overbearing. This town is small and boring. And I want nothing more than to flee back to my new life in San Francisco - a life that doesn't come packed with any surprising new feelings about a guy I went to high school with.

Henry is a ray of sunshine amid this bleak journey home. But I've never been interested in a guy before. When a relaxing hike results in my first timid kiss with another man, I start questioning a lot more than just my decision to leave Tripp Lake. Is Henry worth staying in this crappy town for?

Stray Awakening is a small-town MM romance with first-time gay experiences, a sweet ray of sunshine winning over a jaded grumpy, spicy open-door scenes, and, of course, lots of cats. Go to linktr.ee/faraywrites for CWs.

Excerpt

I don’t dare move, even when Alex rises to his feet and closes the distance between us. He doesn’t touch me, but he could, and that awareness thrums between us like electricity crackling in the air. Air I’ve forgotten to breathe in far too long.

I suck in a startled breath. It would be hard to miss the way Alex’s eyes flicker to my parted lips. But he’s straight, isn’t he? This can’t possibly be happening.

He steps even closer. The crackle is a lightning bolt spitting and sparking before it strikes. Alex raises his hands, lowers them, opens his mouth to speak but says nothing.

Then one single word escapes his lips: “Henry.”

I leap forward without thinking, falling against his mouth. Alex catches me, hands going to my shoulders. Even as he clings to me, Alex kisses me back. This isn’t some light, accidental brush this time, a mistake easily dismissed. His mouth presses hard against mine, and when I gasp for breath Alex tilts his head and goes in deeper. His mouth massages mine, his tongue glancing along my lips. It nearly takes me off my feet, so hungry, so passionate that it’s like a hurricane tearing down the walls to leave me windswept and exposed.

We finally break, both flushed and panting. I cling to my damp towel while Alex clings to me.

“Yeah?” he says.

“Yeah,” I agree. “Yeah.”

I drop the towel and grasp the front of his shirt, tugging him to the couch only a couple steps away. I’m too scared to attempt the longer hike to the bedroom. What if the frenzy fades? What if the distance sobers him up, makes him change his mind? I don’t know what’s happening, but I definitely don’t want it to stop.

I hit the couch hard and drag Alex down with me. One of my legs hangs off the furniture, giving Alex space to lay atop me. His weight presses me into the cushions, and I grab at his shirt, eager to pull him down and feel even more of him on me. The solidity of his body heavy against me is as strong an enticement as his mouth when it finds mine again. My hands sneak around his broad back, fingers curling in his shirt as he kisses me into the couch cushions with a hunger I wouldn’t have dared to expect when I invited him over here. Because seriously, what’s happening right now? I thought he might hate me for kissing him on Saturday, and here he is sucking the breath out of my lungs and licking into my mouth.

And he’s hard.

He shifts, and suddenly I can feel it. I gasp — or I try, anyway. It’s difficult with the voracious way he keeps his mouth against mine. He wants this. He really wants this.

His body’s blunt proclamation inspires a surge of confidence within me. I push at him, flipping us over on the couch before he has time to react. Alex lands on his back and blinks up at me, and the flash of startlement in his dark eyes sends me scrambling.

I shimmy downward to his jeans before he can overthink this, then start undoing the clasps. I glance upward before I pull his pants down. He has one last chance to tell me he’s straight and this is a huge mistake. But there’s no hesitation in his face. He watches me with rapt attention, cheeks and eyes bright, and I don’t delay any longer.

New Release-Review & Excerpt: CHAI LOVE YOU A LATTE by F.A. Ray (Boyfriend Café #3) - Includes Giveaway!

Chai Love You A Latte RB Banner

Chai Love You A Latte
By F.A. Ray

Chai Love You A Latte Cover

Boyfriend Café, Book 3

Loving him is the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Being just a friend? Not so much

Gabriel

I’ve loved my best friend Trent since the day we met. The only problem? He’s straight, and I’m definitely not. Our differences have never come between us, but sometimes the line is so blurry I don’t know where “friend” stops and something more begins.

And Trent is really not helping matters.

We’re so close people mistake us for brothers or lovers. He’s my favorite pillow to sleep on, my favorite shoulder to cry on, my favorite arms to fall into. Is friendship really all this is or dare I try for more with the man I’ve always loved?

Trent

When Mom left, it broke something inside me. I’ve been a loner ever since, terrified to hold on to anyone. There are only two people in my life I dare to trust: My dad and Gabe.

Maybe I’m a little clingy with Gabe, a little too affectionate, but he’s half of my world. If he ever left the way Mom did, I don’t think I could take it.

When things between us start blurring the line between “friend” and something more, it terrifies me. I’ve only been with women. What if I mess this up? What if I’m so bad at it that Gabe hates me? What if I’m not good enough and he leaves?

If being with him will push him away, maybe I’m better off stuffing these feelings away.

Chai Love You A Latte is a childhood friends to lovers MM romance with a bisexual awakening, first time experiences, spicy open door scenes and co-dependent best friends who turn into so much more.

Excerpt

I think he’s about to settle down and sleep, but before he does he tips forward. He’s aiming at my cheek, but the dark is thick and in my surprise I turn my head just a little, placing his lips against mine when he goes to kiss me goodnight.

I freeze. Not pulling away. Not deepening the kiss. Not doing anything at all but experiencing the light brush of his mouth against mine. It’s not a shock. Weirdly, it’s kind of familiar, like we’ve done this before, or like I knew exactly what to expect. Rather than startling me, it calms me, eases away those thoughts I’ve been battling all night.

He lingers only a moment before pulling away and settling down atop me, his head on my chest. Gabe doesn’t say anything, doesn’t do anything, so I don’t either. It was just an accident, right? No reason to get weird about an accident. Besides, it’s not like I hated it. It was … nice. Just a … nice little … best friend kiss … in the dark. That’s all.

I try to keep telling myself that, try to will my heart to stop beating so fast he can probably feel it tapping at his ear. But it’s a losing battle until exhaustion finally takes me.

Carra's Review

I’ve been looking forward to Gabe and Trent’s story from the very first book of this series, and the author definitely did not disappoint!  I love a good friends to lovers story, and childhood friends to lovers is even better.  Getting to see the rest of the Boyfriend Café characters is another plus.

But it was the wonderful relationship between Gabe and Trent that made this story for me.  The closeness between the two of them…to my that is GOALS personified.  It felt like there was an intricate web woven between them, forming an absolutely unbreakable bond.  Even when Trent was still dating girls, Gabe was still there supporting him.  There are there for each other no matter what.

My heart went out to Gabe, having such strong feelings for Trent but always thinking that nothing would ever come of it.  Trent…I think he just didn’t understand what his feelings for Gabe really meant, and it just took him time—a very long time—to realize exactly what he felt for Gabe.  Once that happens, watching his whole awakening was sweet and well worth the wait.

Trent also has a bit of family drama stemming from his relationship with his mother.  Gabe is the opposite—he has the ideal amazing family, all of whom are there for Trent (and Trent’s father) and have been there since he and Gabe became friends.  This acceptance along with that of the guys from the Boyfriend Café creates a safety net for Trent, though he doesn’t realize it for quite a while.

Chai Love You A Latte is definitely my favorite book of this series, and was a 5-star read for me.  I just want to gather Gabe and Trent together in a big bear hug.  As sweet as these two are together, they can be pretty sexy as well, so I’d recommend this for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Cho “Brick” Brixton enjoys cooking, working in his yard, and binge-watching television while living as an out and proud gay man in the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. His parents had the perfect romance, having fallen in love at first sight when they met in Korea, and Brick longs to find a love like that for his own. Whipping up meals for one isn’t much fun, and the constant boredom is a drag.

Not to mention it’s miserably lonely.

All of that changes when a giant mysterious hunk named Jules Price moves in next door. Jules has arrived on business of the not-so-legal sort, namely to retrieve something that was stolen from his criminal family. When he’s not busy being a vicious gangster, Jules is set on getting close to Brick and exploring his first ever attraction to another man. Although Brick has been yearning for the excitement of meeting that special someone, he soon realizes he may have bitten off more than he can swallow.

As their romance heats up, so too does the danger, and Brick finds himself in the middle of a bloodbath in the making if Jules can’t get back what he came here for. Luckily for Brick, Jules is the kind of man who will stop at nothing to keep him safe, and he doesn’t care who gets in his way—or how high the body count gets.

CASH is part of the Ruthless Daddies multi-author collab and a complete standalone. Expect to find a criminal Daddy, a tough boy, high steam, and some dark mafia themes. Want more deliciously morally gray Daddies and boys? Grab the whole series!

Excerpt

“Never met a guy that got me hard before.” Jules glanced over Brick appraisingly. “Well, except you.”

Brick couldn’t have heard that correctly. “Excuse me?”

“I’ve met some of the most f*ckin’ fearless motherf*ckers on the planet. Nothing makes these guys flinch, not a f*ckin’ thing.” Jules paused to sip his drink, his dark eyes fixed on Brick’s. “And you…”

Brick’s face was instantly on fire from the intensity of Jules’s gaze, and he was hyperaware of how very close they were right now. He couldn’t stop glancing down at Jules’s mouth, fixated on a wet spot of liquor that he desperately wanted to taste.

“You’re just some f*ckin’ translator. You’re just a regular guy, but you didn’t hesitate a f*ckin’ second to point that gun at those assholes. I saw you fightin’ them before I got in there. You were gonna mess those f*ckers up if they hadn’t pulled on you.” Jules grinned. “It was f*ckin’ hot.”

“Yeah?” Brick leaned in, gravitating as closely as he dared to Jules. “And how many other guys have you tried to sell this sh*t to, huh? Oh, I’ve never ever been with any dudes before, but you are so way hot, please suck my d*ck.”

“Hey. I didn’t say nothin’ about suckin’ me.” Jules’s tongue flicked over his lips. “But if you wanna, I ain’t gonna stop you.”

“Who said I wanted to?” Brick fired back.

“Oh, baby boy.” Jules’s smile grew wicked. “You definitely wanna.”

“You sure about that?” Brick couldn’t believe this was happening now.

Flirting with Jules was somehow even more insane than having a gun pulled on him earlier tonight, especially since Jules was so eagerly flirting right back. The energy in the room was charged, hot, and Brick knew he was in deep trouble because the only thing on his mind was kissing this sexy gangster.

“Very sure.” Jules’s hand slid up Brick’s thigh to rest on his hip. “I know a pair of f*ck-me eyes when I see ’em. You wanna suck Daddy’s d*ck, huh?”

“I think you’re just really into this Daddy thing,” Brick argued, seeking out Jules’s chest and rubbing over his thick pec. “You want some sweet little thing to roll over and call you Daddy while he blows you, huh?”

“Can that sweet little thing be you? ’Cause I’m startin’ to get into it.”

“I don’t know, Daddy,” Brick teased. “I still think this isn’t the first time you’ve pulled this.”

“It is.” Jules touched Brick’s cheek. “Ain’t ever had any guy get to my d*ck like this. You’re… pretty f*ckin’ special.”

“And you’re not having any kind of weird identity crisis wanting a guy to blow you?”

“I’m very well adjusted.”

“Uh-huh.”

“It don’t matter. Like I told you before, when I want something, I go for it.” Jules’s lips hovered over Brick’s, and his breath was hot and smelled of spicy liquor as he whispered, “And right f*ckin’ now, I want you.”

Brick’s brain imploded. He could not think clearly when Jules said sh*t like that, and touching Jules’s thick muscled chest was every bit as delicious as Brick had imagined. Moving fast wasn’t new to Brick—hell, once upon a time he’d been known to have some fun in the men’s room at the club when he couldn’t wait to get home.

But this was crazy, right?

Wanting to sleep with his attractive neighbor who was a dangerous gangster, had saved Brick’s life, and also apparently just decided that he wanted to sleep with Brick despite never having been with a man before?

Definitely crazy.

Like, all the planets in the solar system had aligned in full batsh*t formation just for tonight to ensure optimal levels of crazy.

“What if I say no?” Brick challenged.

“Mmm.” Jules hummed thoughtfully. “Then I get to be real disappointed for a lil’ bit while I think up some way to change your mind.”

“You think it’s gonna be that easy?”

“Trust me. Daddy Jules is very, very convincing.”

“Right.” Brick scoffed, his pulse rising to an eardrum-shattering level. He could deny it all he wanted to, but they both already knew what was about to happen. “Sure you are.”

Jules smiled, slid his fingers into Brick’s hair, and pulled him in for a deep kiss.

You don’t need a body to have a heart.

Blurb

People talk about the marriage of true minds, but Alexander doesn’t think this is what they meant.

After a cruel experiment binds him to the soul of Rota, an old god, Alexander has one mission: find Rota’s body. Having a godly boyfriend is great, but it would be better to have one that he could actually touch. Unfortunately, even Alexander’s ability to command Rota’s divine power hasn’t helped.

A rare book of poetry may finally provide the answer. The expertise they need translating it brings them to Oleander Logue, a young man with plenty of problems that seem at odds with his cheerful nature. Ollie is happy to help, but he’s in trouble with a gangster who demands that Alexander and Rota solve a series of murders first.

Desperate, Alexander and Rota accept the case… but it’s not that simple. The gangster’s threats to Ollie’s safety disturb them both, but is that because they’re both growing more attracted to Ollie… or because he’s a potential host for Rota? If they can’t solve these murders, they may never find out.

Excerpt

“Thank you!” Ollie gushed. “That was so cool! You totally just kicked Nathaniel’s ass!”

Alexander swallowed a squeak and forgot how to work all of his muscles. Ollie was so warm, and he smelled like alcohol, cigarettes, and patchouli oil with a hint of vanilla.

“Seriously, that was amazing!” Ollie turned Alexander so he could beam down at him, still hugging him close. “I mean, okay, it’s kinda your fault he got in here, but thank you.” He smiled wider. “Whoa. Your eyeballs are turning all pink.”

Alexander was torn between pushing Ollie away and melting into his arms. The simple affection was making his knees weak, having for so long only experienced physical touch that was designed to hurt. His brain refused to cooperate, and all he could do was stutter, “Y-yeah, they do that.”

Who was that man, Ollie? Rota asked.

Alexander slipped away from Ollie, mourning the loss of contact the second he did. He scrambled to get another cigarette. “Yeah, and what was he? I’ve never seen magic like that before.”

“His name is Nathaniel Ware.” Ollie fidgeted and dipped back into the kitchen, still talking. “He is so not f*ckin’ human. He’s, like, a troll dude with tusks and a long tail.”

An Absola? Rota sounded intrigued. Here on Aeon?

The gods had created many monstrous creatures before mortals, including a troll-like race of beings called the Absola. They, along with the other so-called everlasting people, were said to have gone with the gods into the dreaming, and neither Alexander nor Rota had heard of any living in this world for thousands of years.

“Yeah, but not, like, all the way?” Ollie mused. “He’s like a diet Absola.”

“But the Absola don’t control time or space,” Alexander pointed out. “The Faedra do.”

“Whatever! Look, he’s a freaky monster guy, and he works for Sullivan Stoker. Do you know who that is?”

“No.” Alexander grabbed the book to put back in his pocket and followed Ollie. Unsurprisingly, the kitchen was as much of a disaster as the rest of the apartment.

Ollie was pouring red wine into two glasses as he explained, “He’s a crime boss. Like, this big drug lord. And okay, so I may have had a tiny drug problem before. When I first got the eyeballs of Yeris, I had trouble dealing with it.” He thrust a glass at Alexander.

“No thanks.”

Ollie poured it into his glass and sipped off the excess. “I made okay money translating, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with my habit, so I started taking product on credit. Like, so much. And I kinda owe him a lot of money, and he’s very unhappy with me. I’ve been trying to make payments, and he’s been chill ’cause my uncle is a cop, but—”

“He’s tired of waiting and he’s sending goons after you?” Alexander finished.

“Yeah. Damn. You should be a detective.”

“How about this?” Alexander crossed his arms. “I’ll keep the criminal scum from hounding you in exchange for you translating the book?”

“I, I guess that could work.” Ollie frowned. “Will you…. Will you stay here? I need some time to figure out how to deal with Stoker, and, and I’ll find a way to make the translating work, okay?”

“Okay. I’ll put new wards up, and if anyone is stupid enough to come back, I’ll—”

“Where are you gonna sleep?”

“What?”

Ollie scratched his head. “My bed is kinda small, but I guess we could share—”

“Your couch is fine.” Alexander blushed miserably. He could not handle the mere thought of being anywhere near a bed with Ollie right now. He had to be going insane. That’s all it was. “Once it’s cleaned up, of course.”

You should take better care of your home, Ollie. It’s quite a mess.

“I know.” Ollie sighed. “It’s so damn bad. I just never have the energy, and I’ve been really depressed. Like, forever depressed. I died a little, my ex is getting married… it’s been a whole thing.”

Alexander had the inexplicable desire to reach out for Ollie. It was obvious he was upset, and Alexander wanted to feel his arms around him again. He stayed where he was, taking a step back for good measure, as if the distance would quell the urge.

So, you’re single?

“Rota!” Alexander barked, angrily chanting inside his head, Shut up, shut up, shut up!

“Yeah. Duh.” Ollie snorted and slurped more of his wine. He swayed and leaned against the counter, eyeing where Rota was hovering behind Alexander. He grinned. “Okay, wait. Are you hitting on me?”

I believe we are, yes. We’re not very good at it, but we’re making an effort.

“No, we’re not!” Alexander gritted his teeth. “Hey! You look good and drunk. Book. Now.”

Say please.

“Please,” Alexander hissed.

“Okay, okay, sure thing.” Ollie was still grinning. “You know, if you were hitting on me, I would have to tell you—”

A portal opened up and a hand slid through, snatching Ollie so fast that he dropped his wine. The glass hit the ground, shattering as the portal closed.

Just like that, Ollie was gone.

Carra's Review

Coach’s Little Kitten by Quin & Perin
This was my first introduction to kitten play, and it was at the same time both cute and sexy. What it also was? Naughty and HOT. Those who like size disparity will be soundly pleased, and the opposites contrast extends beyond just size. This story also brings up the thought of what could possibly happen once Caleb is no longer in school…just sayin’.

Abstract Love by Sara Dobie Bauer
This one is not so much erotica as it is the beginning of a love story, and I enjoyed it tremendously. It’s written with a lot of emotion and feeling, and I adored how Sam fits with Donovan. Saminasuit…LOVED.

The Kiss by A.G. Carothers
A deeper delving into kink can be found here with Liam—who identifies as asexual, and who is into pain—and Gavin, a dominant at the BDSM club to which they both belong. Even for a shorter work as this, it’s still plenty of time to lay out Liam’s unexpected (to him) journey into play with a man, and into finding a lot more than what he bargained for…in a VERY good way.

Pretty Boy by E.M. Denning
Pretty Boy dips into the taboo pool with Mark and Paul, half brothers. All about raw, primal need and the visceral need to be owned, this story will not be for everyone but if you’re wanting to check out that pool yourself this is a good place to start—and not just for the half brother aspect.

Particular Tastes by T.S. McKinney
Hot guys? Check. Hot sex? Check. Inappropriateness in the work environment? Check. Christian is everything I love in a sexy, hot, pierced alpha male (mmm…yes), and Hudson is perfect as a twink-but-still-deadly match for him. Hudson may not actually be straight as everyone has thought…

Doctor’s Orders by Emma Jaye
Here we get to take a look at an established couple, Nate and Alex. Alex has plenty of his own issues, and how he deals with them is an issue in itself. Nate’s a doctor, and definitely has his caretaker thing going on with Alex. And Nate does do whatever he needs to do to take care of him…including bringing an interesting fantasy of Alex’s to life. Some readers will definitely be getting introduced to a new kink with this story!

Brotherly Love by Lynn Van Dorn
Stepbrothers. Lace and satin undergarments. A bit of makeup. ’Nuff said, right? Another dip into that taboo pool here (though seriously folks, step-siblings aren’t related by blood, y’all know that, right?), where we get to see glimpses of Jay and Jamie growing up, slowly leading to it all coming to a head. A very hot and naughty head.

A Kink Chronicles Short by Luna David
Jeeeeezus. Please excuse me while I go take an ice bath. Pure eroticism, sensual as hell, and it might leave you short of breath…in a very, VERY good way. Told from both Knox and Zach’s points of view, we get a quick exploration of their D/s relationship which has the interesting kink of Zach’s need for humiliation. I confess, that’s one kink I can’t understand personally—but the author takes that and turns it into something crazy hot and intensely erotic. As a matter of fact, “erotic” describes every single page of this story. And that’s before the second couple—another D/s couple with whom Knox and Zach are close friends—enters the picture. Damn, I need a cold drink.

Tamed by T.M. Chris
If you’re a fan of a sub who just does not listen, and you like stories that center on discipline, this will be a story for you. I’m not really into this type of D/s relationship, so this story made me a bit impatient.

Watch and Learn by K.C. Wells
To wrap everything up? Just about everything under the sun. Okay, not everything but an all-out impressive attempt at it. The key here for Zac and Chris? WATCH. Voyeurism is definitely Zac’s thing. What Chris has him watch? That’s where the wide array of acts comes into play. Exhibitionism, fisting, shibari, watersports, flogging, menage, DP…there’s a whole spectrum of things to be found here—all with the purpose of Zac watching. Deliciously naughty, probably a bit eye-opening for some readers, and all in the name of Chris showing Zac that penetrative sex is not the be-all, end-all.

In conclusion
One thing the stories in this anthology have in common is that they all have the potential for a lot more, which has me hoping that the authors might decide to use these as springboards into full-fledged novels at some point. Those that were written as an extra look into an existing world have me looking those stories up to add to my reading list. This is an amazing collection, supporting an incredible cause, and gets all 5 stars from me—definitely a highly recommended read for the M/M erotic romance/erotica fans out there! And the “well, duh” disclaimer…this anthology is strictly for readers 18+ for adult language and erotic sexual content, including some topics that some readers may consider taboo (go ahead, you know that’s one of the reasons you want to read it!).
