"What happens when thirst becomes an obsession that can’t be quenched?

Forty-year-old Zachariah Taylor prides himself on being the overprotective older brother of seven. He owns a successful bar, Zach’s Bar and Grill, in the quiet town of Riverside Falls and loves the life he’s built for himself. But as his siblings move on and find their forever partners in life, he’s starting to feel less and less needed—not to mention old. Suddenly, he’s finding it even harder to ignore the younger man who has pursued him for years, but the twelve years separating them is something Zach can’t seem to overlook.

Twenty-eight-year-old Drew Belford has been in love with the stubborn Zach Taylor for seven years. Sure, he was a kid when they’d first met, but what Zach is determined to ignore is the man Drew has become. Drew, however, is just as strong-minded and refuses to let Zach use their age difference as an excuse to disregard the attraction burning between them. He doesn’t need an overprotective older brother—he needs Zach.

When Drew begins to get unsettling messages from an unknown person, Zach feels helpless in a way he’s never felt before. How can he protect Drew from someone he can’t find? The thought of anyone hurting Drew unleashes years’ worth of pent-up desire Zach has had for the younger man. Is his thirst for Drew enough to protect him from the danger lurking in the shadows, or will the threat of the unknown be enough to dowse the spark of love between them—and silence Drew forever?

Warning - This book contains acts of violence which some readers may find disturbing.

EXCERPT

Hearing the snickers around the room, Zach stood up and headed to the front door. As he walked out onto the steps, he asked, “So…what’s up? Something happen at the bar?”

Drew’s eyes narrowed for a second in confusion before growing wide. “Oh! The shipment didn’t come today. I didn’t know if you wanted to give Joe a call or if I should.” He ran his pink tongue across his plump, bottom lip, the skin glistening in its wake. Zach was grateful for the fact that only his face could be seen by Drew as he pressed the heel of his hand down on his erection. The kid was too damn sexy for his own good. Okay, so kid was pushing it. Drew was twenty-eight; the same age as Eli. The problem was…Drew was the same damn age as Eli. Zach was twelve years older, for f*ck’s sake. But he couldn’t deny how gorgeous the guy was with his dark, short hair that was always perfectly styled, his bourbon-colored eyes, and those lickable, plump lips that were meant for—

“Hello? Earth to LumberZach.”

“How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me that?” Zach growled.

“You know I’ll never listen. You should probably punish me.” Drew wiggled his eyebrows, and Zach could hear people in the background laugh.

Zach covered his face then ran his hand down through his beard. “Do you really have to say that sh*t where people can hear you?”

“No, I don’t. Your place or mine?” Drew winked, and the laughter next to him got louder. When Zach hung his head back in frustration, Drew said, “Relax. It’s just Grant and Lisa.” He shifted the camera to his right. “See?” Drew’s older brother Grant and his girlfriend Lisa waved, each with mocking grins on their faces.

“Your brother’s a pain in my ass,” Zach said to Grant as his friend continued laughing. Hell, it was Grant’s fault Drew worked at the bar to begin with. He’d only hired Drew as a favor to Grant, but in all fairness, that wasn’t why Zach kept the younger man on. Besides the fact that Drew was a hard worker and loved by the customers, Zach knew there was another—nope, don’t even go there. There’s no other reason you keep Drew around.

“You know,” Drew said, bringing Zach’s attention back to the phone screen, “you could be a pain in my ass. A delicious pain in my—”

“I’ll call Joe,” Zach replied quickly then disconnected the phone. “Jesus Christ.” Too bad he couldn’t get the guy to shut up by putting those alluring, full lips to good use.

Carra's Review

Having read the Haven’s Cove series and loved it, I couldn’t wait to jump into this Beyond the Cove novel to check it out.  Not only do we get to see some characters from the author’s prior stories, the excellent writing that kept me fully immersed in those stories is well in evidence again here.  This is a great age gap romance, with a dose of suspense as well.

Drew is pretty awesome.  I love his teasing nature when it comes to Zach, and I admired Drew’s determination and responsible attitude.  Zach could be a tad frustrating when it came to Drew mostly due to the difference in their ages—his attraction to Drew and his feelings were blatantly obvious, so when he tried to put Drew off I wanted to give him a good shake.  Once he finally gave in, things between them were absolutely scorching (my goodness, that scene in the bar…).

The supporting cast of characters which contained both returning and new people was strong.  There’s an ongoing, building danger for Drew which results in moments of suspense, and the author did an excellent job of making it pretty difficult to figure out the true culprit—I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be who it was.  She also piqued my interest for several other characters (Avery, Ryder, Grant, Mason, Sawyer), so I will absolutely be sticking around for more.

I’m not usually into mystery aspects in the books I read, but in this story it was done well and I did like the suspense elements.  As for who the perpetrator turned out to be…I was not expecting that at all, and it kind of felt like it came out of left field.  That was the only point I was a little “meh” about, but the relationship between Drew and Zach, plus the interesting groundwork laid for other characters strongly outweighed that factor.

Overall, Thirst for You was a 4.5-star read for me, and I really can’t wait to read more stories in this series.  This can be read as a standalone, but in my personal opinion you should read the Haven’s Cove books and the other Beyond the Cove novel, Drawn to You, first since those stories will give you insight into the other characters…just my two cents.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language, some hot sexual content, and a bit of violence.

Drew wiped down his last table and chairs, setting each chair upside down on the table so the floors could easily be mopped before opening tomorrow. When he turned around, he just about jumped out of his skin, letting out an embarrassing yelp. “Jesus Christ, will you stop doing that?”

Zach leaned against the bar and huffed out a laugh at Drew’s reaction. “What the hell is wrong with you today? You’re jumpy as hell.”

Should I tell him what’s been happening?

Before Drew could get the words out, Zach shocked the hell out of him by saying two words Drew never thought he’d hear once, never mind twice in one week. “I’m sorry.” Drew’s mouth dropped open. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m not an asshole. I do know when I’ve overstepped, and I did with you tonight.”

Drew looked around the empty bar. “Seriously? Why is no one else here again to witness this? They’ll never believe me.”

Zach chuckled and made his way across the bar, stopping right in front of Drew. Drew stared at those inviting lips, surrounded by a closely-shaven beard. He wasn’t going to lie; he liked this look better on Zach than the mountain-man beard he’d had last year. Now, he could clearly see that luscious mouth, and it made him want to nibble on it. What would he taste like? What would that coarse beard feel like against my hot, bare skin?

“Jesus, where did your mind just go?” Zach asked hoarsely.

Drew blinked up at the man and licked his lips, watching as Zach sucked in a breath. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

Zach hung his head and groaned. “I’m not answering that.”

Holy hell, it wasn’t a no. Drew wanted to seize the moment, but suddenly, he was tongue-tied with what to say. Zach had shocked him twice tonight, and both times had Drew reeling.

“Look,” Zach continued, meeting Drew’s eyes once more, “I’ll talk to Sawyer. Clear the air and, hopefully, get him to keep his f*cking mouth shut when it comes to you.” When Drew opened his mouth to argue, Zach spoke louder. “It’s not because you’re helpless. How he treats people, anyone, while he’s working here is a direct reflection on this bar. Outside of this place, I’ll stay out of it.” Zach paused for a second, like he was debating his next words. “I’m not saying I understand it, but…it’s not my place to tell you whether or not you should be on that website either. I don’t like it. At all. But you can take care of yourself, and I need to stop treating you like you can’t.”

The messages Drew had been getting from BroJob14 had been weighing on him, and he’d been so close to deleting them. But something was telling him that if he blocked whoever the f*ck it was, it might only piss them off more. Zach would for sure change his tune if he knew about those.

Zach scratched the center of his chest as he furrowed his brows and grumbled, “Why the hell do I feel like I’ve been saying that a lot lately?”

“Probably because you always treat your siblings the same way,” Drew answered then took a step forward, watching in satisfaction as Zach’s hand dropped from his chest and his breathing picked up. “But you need to remember a couple things the next time you feel the need to take control of things and play the role of big brother. One, I already have a big brother who treats me like I can’t take care of myself. I don’t need another one. And two, I would gladly let you control my body any way you want to…but not my choices.”

Zach’s eyes dilated, making his blue irises seem darker as he stared at Drew. And to Drew’s credit, he didn’t climb the man’s muscular limbs like he wanted to. No, instead, he patted Zach on the chest and walked around him. “Night, Zach.”

Drew’s body hummed with pleasure as he heard a groaned, “F*ck,” leave Zach’s mouth.

BLURB

Perfect, happy, “Jonah the Savior”, that’s how most people see Jonah Taylor. What they don’t always see is how incredibly overwhelmed he is with his new business or how lonely he is. When a painfully shy man enters his wellness center, all Jonah wants to do is help break him out of his shell. The problem is, the attraction he feels to the nervous, timid man is undeniable.

Cameron Vaughn has let most of his life be decided for him. A traumatic event from his past has caused him to doubt every decision he makes. When he’s forced into a new, anxiety-ridden situation, his first instinct is to run. So, what is it about the owner of the wellness center that has him questioning everything he’s ever been told?

Can one man convince the other he’s worth saving? Can the other realize he’s strong enough to save himself? Together, can they prove that what they’ve found is worth holding on to?

Hard to Hold Teaser 3

EXCERPT

It was still pretty light outside, but Cameron was standing in mostly darkness, the only light now coming from the stairs. Taking a deep breath, he once again reminded himself of the promise he’d made to Dr. Sampson and to himself to face things head on. Time to find out what the hell I did wrong. He took the stairs slowly, steadily breathing in and out as he got to the landing in front of Jonah’s door. He glanced down the stairs to the exit, then took one last chest filled breath, lifted his hand, and knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Jonah called out and with a shaking hand, Cameron opened the door.

Hesitantly, Cameron walked in, scanning the small space for Jonah who was standing across the room by a table with his back to the door.

“Don’t tell me the lock is sticking again. I’ll have to complain to my land...” Jonah turned around, and the smile left his face, “lord. Cameron... Sorry, thought you were Gabe, who also happens to be my landlord.” Jonah gripped the back of his neck and gave a small laugh. Was he nervous?

Panic flooded Cam. What the hell he was thinking? The uneasy look on Jonah’s face reminded him, though. He cleared his throat, rubbed his palms on his jeans and said in a shaky voice, “Didn’t mean to bother you so late. I just... Well, I have a question.”

Jonah plastered the fake smile on his face that Cameron was starting to hate. “What’s up?”

Cameron looked back toward the door, his need to find the exit in any situation like a thorn in his side and a comfort at the same time. He opened and closed his trembling hands, took a deep breath, and finally asked, “What did I do?”

Jonah was clearly confused. “I’m sorry?”

Balling his hands into fists, Cameron drew strength from the tightness and asked again. “What did I do wrong?” He looked down at his fists, slowly uncurling his fingers, and began fidgeting with his hands. “I mean, I obviously did something wrong because you’ve been really weird with me for days. In fact, you’ve been pretty quiet, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out what I did.” Holy sh*t. Did all of that really just come out of his mouth? It suddenly hit Cameron that Jonah treating him differently was bothering him more than he realized. Enough to actually speak up for once in his goddamn life and ask why.

Jonah’s look of shock confirmed that...yes, he really had just said all that. He ran the hand that had been gripping the back of his neck up through his blond hair then back down to his neck. Jonah walked over to the couch and sat down. Slowly, he leaned over, resting his elbows on his thighs then looked back up at Cameron. The desperate sadness in Jonah’s gaze definitely threw Cameron off.

“Sh*t, Cam, I’m sorry. I was trying to not make you feel uncomfortable, and instead, I went completely to the other end of the spectrum.”

“Huh?” Jonah had used his nickname, the same one Ali had used only days before. He hadn’t liked when Ali called him Cam, but when Jonah said it, it made him feel warm. It felt…intimate. Jonah patted the cushion next to him, and Cameron found himself walking over and sitting down without a second thought. “Why would you think you were making me uncomfortable?” he asked, still completely confused.

“Because you’re always so nervous around me. You... Do you know you barely look at me? I thought― Ah, it’s so stupid when I think about it now. Just ignore me. You’ve done absolutely nothing wrong…a bit of a distraction…but nothing wrong.”

Hard to Hold Teaser 4

Carra's Review

Hard to Hold is the third book in the Haven’s Cove series, and it is far and away my favorite of this series so far.  I was absolutely smitten with Cameron, wanting to protect him and make sure he got his happy ending every page of the way.  It was devastating to read about what happened in his past, and while what happened is responsible for his shy, introverted personality it comes across as kind of sweet at first…until you realize the reason behind it which is when my heart broke for him.

Jonah is a wonderful man, always aware of what others need, and he is amazing with Cam.  I really liked that things didn’t move too fast with them, and that Jonah went at whatever pace Cam needed to go.  He’s everything Cam needs, and Cam can be fully comfortable and be himself with Jonah as well.  Jonah plays a huge role in Cam’s character’s growth in this story, and as Cam’s character grew into himself, I was so damn proud of him.

There are some fantastic supporting characters with the guys from the first two books, but also with Cam’s family.  His brother and his brother’s wife in particular were so supportive of him, and I liked how they were trying to help push him in the right direction.  I was also glad how his father stepped up…his mother though—she’s one of those “I know best” moms to whom you just want to give more than a piece of your mind.  She really ticked me off in the worst way.

I was especially not at all fond of Ali’s character, particularly late in the story when she made Cam’s mom look almost like an angel in comparison.  The part of the story that concerns Ali at that late point really irked me, which as much as it pissed me off I also give kudos to the author for being able to elicit such a wide range of emotions from me during this story.

Hard to Hold deserves more than the 5 stars I’m giving it, and I’m even more excited now for the rest of the books to come in this series.  I can’t wait to see if Ms. Quinn can top this one!  I highly recommend this book to every M/M romance fan, and while you could read this as a standalone, I would recommend reading the series in order to get the most out of all the characters you’ll find here—all three books so far have been 5 star reads for me, and are all definitely re-read material.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language, sexual content, and you’ll want to check out the trigger warning in the front of the book before reading as there is sensitive subject matter from Cam’s past covered (which the author handles quite well in this story).

When he arrived in Haven’s Cove to be there for his best friend, he never imagined he’d end up extending his stay indefinitely. Small town living isn’t so bad after all, and the views are magnificent—especially the view of a sexy, rugged blond. But when that mysterious, brooding man refuses all Gabe’s advances, he is forced to take a step back and truly look at the person he’s become.

Nate Black moved from Boston to Haven’s Cove for his family. He’s missed small town living and the simple, tranquil life that comes with it. What he doesn’t bargain for is the pushy, spoiled playboy who’s set his eyes on Nate as his next conquest. Knowing this man has the potential to crack the foundation of his quiet life, Nate will do everything he can to protect his safe, closed-off world.

Is one man worth loving? Is the other worth the sacrifice? Or is the love they’re searching for not just hard to get but completely out of reach?

Hard to Get Teaser 2

EXCERPT

There was that huge heart again, trying to see something in Gabe that just wasn’t there. Gabe smiled. “Jonah Taylor, always trying to save the world from heartbreak and pain. You can’t solve everyone’s problems, Jonah.”

Jonah smirked and shrugged his shoulders. “I can try. Look, I think you need a distraction. Maybe even step away from the whole Nate situation a little.”

“Why, Jonah, you sly fox. Are you offering yourself as the commercial break from my regularly scheduled program?” Gabe said seductively, laughing as Jonah turned the color of a ripe tomato.

“Gabe…” Jonah squirmed in his chair, and Gabe couldn’t keep up the teasing.

Gabe patted Jonah’s hand and laughed. “I’m kidding, Jonah. Besides, I prefer devil’s food cake for dessert.” Gabe winked at him.

Jonah shook his head and chuckled, looking offended. “What are you trying to say? I’m vanilla?”

Gabe let his eyes roam over Jonah’s muscular body as he sat in the chair, making sure to take in every bulge. “Oh…no, sir. Not vanilla. Let’s just say, I enjoy something a little more sinful, and you definitely have angel’s food written all over you.”

Jonah’s skin was flushed from Gabe’s roaming eyes as he squirmed in his chair a little. “I’ll try to take that as a compliment.”

“Absolutely. You should.” Gabe smiled.

Jonah returned the smile, relaxing again, and said, “Why don’t you come to the gym with me? I can get you a pass. I know it’s not the fun you had in mind,” Jonah laughed, “but it could be a good distraction. Not to mention, the scenery isn’t all that bad.” Jonah wiggled his eyebrows up and down.

Gabe suddenly had visions of hot, sweaty bodies, muscles straining with exertion, grunts of men as they lifted. Why hadn’t he thought of it himself?

Jonah smirked. “By the look on your face, I’d say you’re interested.”

Gabe narrowed his eyes then grinned. “I have to say, Jonah, for someone who doesn’t know me all that well you seem to have read me correctly.”

“Remember you said that,” Jonah said. “Pretty sure it applies to everything I’ve said to you just now.”

Gabe hung his head and laughed. “Walked into that one, I suppose.”

“So, you’ll come?” Jonah asked.

“Maybe a little later. Right now, I think I’ll go to the gym with you,” Gabe said and watched as Jonah blushed once again.

“And I walked into that one.” Jonah chuckled.

Gabe stood up and walked Jonah to the door. “Shall I follow you, or do you want to just give me the address?”

Jonah reached his hand in his pocket and pulled out his car keys. “I’m on my way there now. If it won’t take you long to get ready, I’ll wait in my car.”

“I’ll only be five minutes. I may be high-maintenance, but believe it or not, I don’t wear my Armani suits to the gym.”

Jonah chuckled again and nodded his head. “Okay, I’ll be in my car. The gym’s in Maple Grove, the next town over, but still only takes ten minutes to get there. You can follow me.” Jonah opened the door then turned back around with a wicked smile. “Oh, and by the way, even angels fall every now and then, and it’s twice the ride. Scorching on the way down, but the best f*cking ecstasy you’ve ever felt on the way back up.” It was Jonah who winked that time, and Gabe found himself with a sh*tload more respect for the guy.

Hard to Get Teaser 3

Carra's Review

After meeting Gabe in Hard to Let Go as Brody’s best friend, I was excited to read his story next.  Hard to Get definitely lived up to my expectations, and I loved getting to know beyond the surface with both Gabe and Nate.

While the fronts the two men present are pretty much opposite of each other, they actually have events in their past in common (not the same event, but the same type each).  Gabe is outwardly the quintessential playboy, brash and overflowing with innuendos—not just around Nate, but with everyone.  He may show this naughty exterior, but he’s really just protecting his heart.  Nate is more reserved, keeping to himself and valuing family above all else.  He’s been hurt before just like Gabe, though Nate’s hurt also resulted in a lot more responsibility on his shoulders.

Once Gabe is able to make it past Nate’s barriers—first as a friend, and later as more—the two of them slowly build a friendship, eventually turning that into some crazy hot physical intimacy once Nate realizes Gabe’s interactions with Nate’s family are truly heartfelt and have touched both men emotionally.

We get to see returning characters from the first book of the series—it was so good to see them again, and they do play important roles in this story, and do an excellent job of supporting Nate and Gabe.  My interest is already piqued for Jonah and Cameron’s story, I really hope that one comes soon!  Nate’s parents are great, and his mom is a sneaky one (and thankfully so!).  Gabe’s father—not so much.  He’s one of those characters that I’m breaking out the word “hate” to describe my feelings.

Another smashing 5 stars for Hard to Get…if you haven’t started reading this author, don’t put it off!  Jaclyn Quinn has already landed on my author watch list even though this is just her second book.  Though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.  I personally would recommend reading them in order so you can get Brody and Owen’s story along with your first glimpse at Gabe and Nate since it’s a good setup for this book.  Hard to Get is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Gabe sighed again, rolling his eyes. “My God, did the four of you have a Nate Protection Plan meeting I wasn’t invited to? I assure you, I’m harmless. I’m also pretty sure that Nate is a grown man who doesn’t need protection—unless it’s a condom. Then I fully condone it and will even offer my services in the Sheathing Department.” Gabe winked. “He can thank me later.” He held the beer bottle in the crook of his left arm and patted Jonah’s cheek. “Wish me luck.” Then he walked around Jonah and headed for his target.

Nate didn’t disappoint tonight; that was for sure. The guy made a pair of jeans the sexiest material ever to fit on a man’s strong body. Long legs, strong muscled thighs, unmistakable well-endowed bulge covered in denim. It made Gabe want to get down on his knees and find out what hid beneath the denim—with his tongue. Nate’s broad chest was screaming to be released from the tightly stretched black cotton T-shirt. Tell me the man doesn’t know what he’s doing to me in that outfit?

“You’re staring.” Two plump, well-defined lips uttered the words—none too kindly—and Gabe blinked, snapping out of his stupor.

Sh*t, was there drool on his chin? He’d been undressing the man with his eyes. “Sorry, bad habit. Another beer?” Gabe held up the bottle to Nate, and as he expected, was quickly shot down.

“No, thanks,” Nate said, obviously irritated, not even looking in Gabe’s direction.

“Tell me, Mr. Black, do you have a problem with all tall, dark, and handsome men, or is it just me who ruffles that blond hair of yours?” Gabe asked. His voice was low and seductive as he moved in a little closer to Nate.

Nate turned his face to look at Gabe and snickered. “Tell me, Mr. D’Angelo, do you have a problem with rejection in general, or is it just the fact that I’m not interested that rubs your conceited ego the wrong way?”

Touché.

Gabe smiled wickedly and moved a little closer, letting his hot breath caress Nate’s ear as he whispered, “Trust me. There isn’t a wrong way to rub me. When you’re ready to admit you want to, we can make this interesting.”

Nate moved in even closer, the heat from his body making Gabe’s c*ck dance with glee. Nate’s lips and the scruff of his goatee brushed up against Gabe’s ear, sending a delicious chill down his spine. “Why don’t you hold your breath,” Nate pulled back abruptly, “and see where that gets you.” With a look of disgust, he walked away.

“Well, that went well,” Gabe said to no one in particular. He had to laugh at the situation or he’d explode. If he were smart he’d get over it, realize the man was a waste of time, and find someone more willing to tickle his fancy—and other parts of his anatomy. Hell, he could be back in the city with a man filling him so good by the end of the night.

Too bad he wasn’t a smart man.

Owen Richards lives a quiet life in his small hometown of Haven’s Cove. He has a rewarding life consisting of three very supportive—not to mention feisty—women, and a successful bakery that he owns and absolutely loves. Yet, Owen can't seem to shake this emptiness inside or the intense feeling that something is missing. A sudden encounter with a man from his past, one he despises, turns his entire world upside down. When Owen finds himself attracted to that sexy man, he questions everything, including his sanity. After all, only an incredibly disturbed person would find that he can’t stop thinking about his high school bully.

Brody Walker never expected to return to Haven’s Cove. He’s made a life for himself in Boston where he can truly be the person he was always meant to be. But an unexpected call has Brody facing all the demons he’d left behind so long ago. Now, he’s faced with not only a difficult goodbye, but one long overdue apology to a man who is no longer that lanky kid from high school. The challenge is to convince the guy he’s changed—and also prove he’s worth taking a chance on.

When passions ignite, truths are exposed, changing beliefs these men have held on to for years. Faced with the knowledge that things aren’t always what they seem, will they choose to hold on to the incredible thing they’ve found…or is it easier to give in to the fear and let go?

Carra's Review

For a debut book, this author one hundred percent blew me away.  From the characters to the writing to the storyline, I loved everything about this story and have this author on my watch list going forward.  I’m definitely looking forward to her next book already, because Hard to Let Go was frankly quite impressive and had me falling for the characters—not just the main ones either—from the start.

I was a bit unsure at first when the story opened with Owen and Jonah, but quickly came to understand their situation.  When Brody comes onto the scene and the discord comes out right away, it’s hard to see how things could progress given the past and present circumstances.  As the details of Brody’s life up to then unfold and Owen comes to know more about him, Owen becomes quite conflicted about his feelings…something that helps contribute to the tension of the story.  It soon becomes clear though that there’s something that connects these two men, and even with their pasts the progression of their relationship still feels right, natural, and never rushed.  And don’t even get me started on their incredible chemistry!

One of the best things about this story is how well every single character is written.  They all have excellent depth, and every single one of them plays an important part in moving the story along.  The support of Brody’s best friend Gabe is unwavering, and he—along with Owen’s family (particularly his cousin Leslie)—provide some much needed laughs along with love and friendship.  Jonah?  I don’t have the words to tell you how simply amazing this man is.  Well, maybe I do…unselfish, supportive, kind, understanding, an emotional rock for Owen, and just a remarkable friend.

Be prepared for some heartbreaking emotions (keep some tissues handy), along with genuine love as both Owen and Brody help each other heal from the past.  Their story is riveting; I read it in a single sitting as I couldn’t put it down.  If this is how Jaclyn Quinn does a debut novel, I can’t wait to see where she goes from here!

5 stars for Hard to Let Go, this is one I highly recommend to every M/M romance fan.  I’m excited for more in this series, I’m hoping Gabe’s and Jonah’s stories will be coming quickly!  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

EXCERPT

Brody nodded his head and let his aunt Nora lead him down the hall. Had this hallway always been so damn long? The walls were lined with pictures. There were Brody’s school pictures, holidays, and family photos of the three of them smiling.

It was a hall full of lies.

As he crossed the threshold into the room, it was like breaking through a thick wall. His chest hurt and every muscle in his body tensed. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but it wasn’t this. A hospital bed was against the soft blue wall to his right; an IV stand with a bag hanging from a hook at the top blocked his view of his mother’s face. The room had the same beige carpet he remembered, but his father’s desk was replaced with a big reclining chair. There was another chair in the room on the far side of the bed. A small table on wheels sat next to it and on it were tissues, a pair of glasses, and the last thing he expected to see—a framed picture of him from when he was little. Next to that was an oxygen tank with tubing connected to it. The tubing led up to where it hooked around her ears to hold the small prongs in place in her nose. There were no big machines, no sounds of incessant beeping.

Then it really hit him. She wasn’t there to get better; she was there to let go. Brody stepped softly into the room, afraid to disturb her, afraid to breathe too heavily and throw off the serenity of her room.

Brody’s heart was trying to beat its way out of his chest. He felt a light touch from his aunt on his back, as if she was telling him it was going to be okay—even though they both knew it wouldn’t be. He walked to the side of the bed cautiously, praying he didn’t upset her if she didn’t want him there. As he lowered himself into the chair, his breath caught, and he looked into his mom’s eyes for the first time in too long. Oh God, was that panic in her eyes? Pain? He didn’t want to cause her either in her final days.

“Brody? Honey, is it really you?” Her voice was so soft, but there was no mistaking the words as a tear slid down her cheek, and her eyes had a sudden light.

Just like that, Brody released the breath he’d been holding and let the tears fall down his face. “Yeah, Mom. It’s me. I’m here.”
