New Release-Excerpt: RECKLESS BEHAVIOR by JJ Harper

RECKLESS BEHAVIOR
by JJ Harper

Blurb
Framed and imprisoned at eighteen, six years later Santiago “Santo” Valentine is not the frightened teen he once was. Taught by Master Salvatore Moretti, and with walking papers in hand, Santo is determined to turn the family name around and distance it from the drugs and prostitution his father’s legacy is built on.
Santo seeks revenge on his father, the man who framed him, and the whereabouts of his younger brother, Luca.
When he finds him, in the worst place a child could ever be—a children’s home simply known as “The Pound,” where unwanted children disappear—Luca has a friend he refuses to leave behind.
At the first sight of Ezra’s brilliant, ice-blue eyes, something shifts in Santo, and he knows he has to help this boy, too.
Ezra, dumped at The Pound when he was barely eleven years old, takes one look at Santo and knows his heart is lost. He also knows he has no chance with him. He might be seventeen, but he’s nothing more than Santo’s little brother’s best friend.
After a massive error in judgment, Ezra runs, obliterating all trace of him.
Santo, sent to investigate a dancer for his club six years later, crosses paths with Ezra. Santo’s reckless behavior shocks them both and leaves them stumbling to trust their hearts.
***
This is a gay romance with BDSM scenes and lots of men-on-men action. Due to sexual content, it is advised that readers are 18 and over.

Excerpt
The sun slowly rises, shining brightly through the narrow window. The rays catch on the bars and, for a few moments, the gunmetal gray glows like copper. Every morning, for the last six years, has been exactly the same. But, today is different. Today is the day I step into the warm sunlight, a new man. A stronger man. A man with power. It’s time to take charge and claim what’s mine.
When I arrived here, I was eighteen, scared and angry at the same time. I knew I’d been set up and I knew by whom. I simply couldn’t believe he went through with it. Word quickly spread that I, the son of the Big Gun, had arrived in prison. Rocco Valentine’s eldest son, his right-hand man, had been found guilty.
I understand why he did it. He was angry with me. I wasn’t the man he thought I was, the man he had molded me to be. He had no room in his empire for a queer—a faggot, or any other name he could think of calling me.
I survived in here because of one man, a man who became my father. Salvatore Moretti. He received a life sentence and knew it meant exactly that. He would die in prison. He also knew I was innocent, but that didn’t mean sh*t in this place. He was the first person to greet me as he crowded my cell. He filled it, not only with his size—and he’s a huge motherfucker—but with his presence. I knew of him, - he was my father’s rival, and even from within these oppressive, confined walls, he - ruled his domain outside.
“Welcome, Santiago. You are no saint, after all.” His lips turn up in a wolf-like grin before he steps closer and holds his arms out to me.
“I have no f*cking clue how to survive this, and it’s just Santo now.” I say the first thing that comes to my mind, and it’s the dumbest sentence ever. Way to show your weakness, Santo.
“Santo, you just stick with me. I’ll see you right. No f*cker will touch you while you are with me. I own this place and I run it with an iron fist.” He embraces me. “We will get along just fine, young man. Your father is a fool if he thinks he can get away with this.”
“How do you know?” I look at him askance.
“Santo, I know everything. Now, come, let me introduce you to my men. You are safe here.”
Over the years, he proved it. Then, after three years, he came to me with something more than merely protection. He came and taught me a skill I never knew existed. He showed me the way to use a man’s body. I never hid my sexuality from him. I didn’t need to; he knew. He unleashed something inside me, so real and so pure. I remember it vividly.

Excerpt
Dressed in black leather pants and a skintight, black T-shirt, I wait in my car for the right moment. An hour passes as I watch members of my father’s gang arrive at his club. As I count the last man in, I send the message out to my men.
As I walk up to the doorman, the man nods and slinks away. Joel and Mickey stride down the dark corridor leading to the club’s back room, which my father uses to sign the papers for the massive drugs deal he thinks he made. I find myself looking around a place that, even after all these years, is so familiar. I hear the voices of patrons in the bar, the clink of glasses, and the thwack of a cue hitting a ball on a pool table. As a child, this was my home; every day, I would be here after school, doing my homework in the company of prostitutes, crooks, thieves, and murderers. Now, everyone in there is oblivious of what is about to go down.
Joel knocks the door three times, pausing before knocking again. When the door opens, I see a pair of eyes I haven’t seen in a very long time. My cousin Arlo steps back to allow Joel and Mickey entry. I follow them and see the look on Arlo’s face. Confusion, as he tries to place me, changes to shock when he recognizes me. Gabriel and Manny follow me, and we spread out, facing the men sitting around the large, alcohol-laden table. The room is thick with cigar smoke.
There he is, a much fatter and more grotesque man than the one who sent me to prison. He seems startled and fidgets in his chair, his mouth opening and closing like a gaping fish.
“Not expecting to see me tonight?” I ask as he tries to gain his composure. I look at the men and send a silent signal to the ones who have joined me.
“What the f*ck are you doing here?” He scans the room as men stand from the table and the perimeter of the room.
I stay silent as he attempts to work out what is going on. “I don’t know what the f*ck you’re doing out of prison, let alone why you’re standing here. I don’t have time for you. I’m busy, so f*ck off and don’t come here again.”
“You waiting on someone? Someone to do a bit of business with? Someone you met in Vegas? Is that why you’re here tonight? I believe you brought some girls in for entertainment, too. Still dabbling in prostitution, or is it human trafficking now? Along with the drugs, you must be worth a bit now.”
“What the f*ck are you talking about? F*ck off, Santiago; you’re not man enough to play with the big boys. Take your pretend hard men with you and get the f*ck out of here.” He pushes himself up to stand as he waves an arm in the direction of the door.
“Oh dear, I was hoping this was going to be easy. Now, listen to me. You’re done here. Your time is up. I’m back and I’m taking what’s mine. I’m taking what you made sure I couldn’t have when you set me up to save your own ass. I know it was you who planted me in that girl’s apartment. I also know it was you who raped her, then beat her so hard she almost died. I know it was you who called the cops. And I know there’s only two ways you’re getting out of here.”
Observing the room, I know I have the backing of all but a few here. I notice Arlo going for his gun. “Don’t even think about it, little cousin. You will be dead before you can take aim.” Manny reaches inside his coat and has his gun out faster than you can blink, aiming at Arlo’s head.
“What’s it gonna be, Pops?” I watch him snarl and turn purple with rage. “A body bag or handcuffs? Which way will be less painful for you?”

New Release-Excerpt: HERE WITHOUT YOU by JJ Harper (Cooper's Ridge #2)

 HERE WITHOUT YOU

COOPER’S RIDGE SERIES #2
by
JJ Harper

Archer Hawkins and Mallory Halston literally run into each other and a true love story is born. Archer pursues Mallory with absolute determination making him fall hook, line, and sinker.
“I really would like to get to know you, Mallory.” His voice husky in my ear. “I don’t think it’s a good idea, I’m sorry.” I’m already kicking myself for turning him down. “That’s okay, I’ll ask again tomorrow, and the day after, I’ll get you to say yes in the end.”
But just when they’re about to get everything they ever hoped tragedy strikes leaving Mal alone and adrift. Putting his past behind him Mal stumbles upon Cooper’s Ridge. Changing his name to Carter, he takes a chance, becoming a bartender at The Last Drop Inn, and embarking on a new life.
Local attorney, Dan Mortimer, has finally found and captured the heart of Cooper’s Ridge’s newest resident, Carter.
“I was coming in to see you, and maybe get you to agree to dinner with me. C’mon Carter it’s only dinner, I’m a nice guy I promise.”
But when Dan’s college friend comes to town to recuperate after a horrible car accident, it seems the most important men in his life may have something to answer for. And just how far will an evil, conniving, homophobic mother with a vendetta go to bring them all down?
Here Without You is a gay ménage story with plenty of hot sex and strong language and is therefore suitable for readers aged 18 and over.

Excerpt
“Can I see you again? Tonight? Please, Mallory, give me another chance.” He smiles softly, making my heart skip a beat.
“I can’t do tonight. I’m here ‘til ten o’clock.” I look over my shoulder, and my boss is scowling at me, his arms folded over his chest. “I’ve got to get to work. I’m sorry, Archer. Maybe another day.” I scurry away, avoiding eye contact with my boss and serve the next customer.
“I’ll be here at ten, Mallory,” Archer calls out as he walks out.
“This isn’t a pick-up joint, Halston. Get to work,” Mr. Kowolski mutters to me before stomping back to his office.
Carl looks at me and gives me a smile. “He’s a hot guy, rich too. You should go for him.” He winks and carries on serving.
The day is long, and I’m hot and sweaty by the time I finish. All I want to do is go back to my room and get under a cold shower. The night has cooled down, but even in darkness, the heat is suffocating. I walk out the kitchen door and see Archer waiting for me. He smiles and pushes off from the wall. I look at his long legs clad in denim tonight, and a tight-fitting short-sleeved shirt shows off his broad chest, making me swallow hard.
“You shouldn’t have come out again, Archer. I’m tired and in desperate need of a shower and my bed. Can we take a raincheck?” I ask quietly as he approaches me.
His green eyes darken as he looks me over. “I’m here now, and I can offer you both of those options if you’d like to come back to my place.” His voice is deep and husky as he steps into my space.
“Huh? I don’t think that’s a good idea. We don’t know each other.” I struggle to speak as I inhale the crisp citrus scent of his cologne.
“What better way to find out more.” His mouth is so close to mine I can feel his warm breath washing over my dry lips. I slide my tongue over my lower lip, dampening it or maybe trying to capture his flavor. My eyes flutter as I feel his mouth brush over mine, a touch so light I could have almost believed I imagined it until I hear him sigh.
“Sh*t,” I mutter under my breath. My heart beats frantically in my chest as I crave for his touch.
“Come back with me, Mallory.” His words resonate in my chest, making my refusal impossible. I nod my head and let him take my hand. “Thank you,” he whispers.
