After years of annoying her from afar, Lord Christopher Hiddleston leaps at the chance to return to Cambridge and the fiery girl he has never forgotten. Now a successful Gothic novelist, Christopher will use his notoriety to support the school...and drive Etta wild.
A chance meeting leads to another, and then the firebrand and the antagonist find a passion of a different sort. But can a woman who dreams too much and a man who never does truly find a happily ever after?

"What is your novel to be about?"
A strange kind of excitement filled Christopher. "I thought in the first novel, she could be a client of the inquiry agent and proves herself invaluable in solving the case. Of course, he thinks her frivolous to begin with, but, over the course of the novel, he realises she is more than what she seems and comes to rely upon her insight and counsel."
Etta regarded him for the longest time, so long his stomach felt like lead. "It sounds interesting," she finally said.
Relief tore through him, and he gave a cocky grin. "Of course it's interesting. I shall write it."
She rolled her eyes. "I should have known better than to think you would be serious for half a minute."
Sobering, he said, "Would you read it? If you saw it in a shop, would you pick it up?"
"Perhaps."
He released the breath he hadn't known he had taken. Her opinion mattered. It always had. In fact... "I should like it if you would consult on it."
She blinked. "I beg your pardon."
"I should like it if you would consult. Be my editor, as it were." He warmed to the idea. "You were practically my editor on the first story anyway."
"I beg your pardon?"
"Your comments." She still looked utterly confused. "On the passages I included with the articles."
"You mean those gothic scribbles you sent with the articles You actually applied my criticisms?"
Now she seemed shocked as well as confused. "Of course. You were correct, every time."
Here was a sight he'd never thought he'd see. Etta Wilding-Marsh, stymied. "Will you be my consultant?"
She seemed to snap herself out of it. "I shall have to think on it."
Something inside him dulled, but he swallowed it with a grin. "Don't think too long. Others would clamour for the opportunity."
"Then perhaps you should ask them."
He merely continued to grin.
"I have to go," she stammered. "Gwen-the duchess-is expecting me."
"Of course," he murmured.
She made to move past him only to hesitate. "You truly wish my opinion?"
"Of course."
A smile lit her face, blinding in its brilliance.
He sucked in his breath. Heart pounding, he nodded dumbly as she said another good-bye and left, glancing over her shoulder with another smile before disappearing around the corner.
Regaining his breath, he silently recounted the last few moments. He, apparently, was to write a series, and not just any series, but a detective series. Something he'd barely allowed himself to think of, he'd blurted out to Etta without a thought. And then, he'd asked her to help him with it. And she had smiled at him.

Synopsis
When Canyon's ex-lover, Robert, dies, he leaves behind a last request that Canyon take word of his passing to Simon, an old friend on the east coast. Canyon reluctantly agrees, and soon finds himself falling for Simon, despite the nagging belief he shouldn't, and his guilt over his part in the accident that claimed Robert's life. Simon knows something Canyon doesn't -- Robert's death wasn't an accident, but a suicide, and Robert's intent was for the two men he left behind to come together. But Robert's plan didn't account for two things: Simon's disbelief that anyone can truly love a soon-to-be-cripple, and Canyon's staunch decision that the next man he gives himself to will give him a wedding ring first. Can Canyon and Simon set aside their own issues long enough to see what lies between them, or will they both miss out on their happily ever afters?Previously published by Breathless Press
Excerpt
Canyon leaned back in his desk chair with a sigh and rubbed his tired eyes. An online search of Pratt's Hollow, New York, his destination in two days, hadn't revealed much. A small coastal town, founded back in the 1600's by Elijah Pratt -- making it one of the oldest cities in the country -- it boasted an economy based mostly on agriculture, but at the same time the residents seemed rather proud of the new Target that had moved in two months ago. Front-page news. They did have a tiny airport, though its website didn't even give any details about what terminal he'd arrive at.At least it wasn't New York City. He had no desire to go gallivanting off to the hustle and bustle of a place like that. Canyon sighed. In truth, he had no desire to go gallivanting off anywhere. And who was this Simon, anyhow? What significance did he carry to Robert? What kind of important friend never even called or wrote or visited? And why the hell was it suddenly his responsibility to carry out some assuagement of Robert's guilty conscience? What if he just said no? Who, beyond Paul and Natalie, would even know or care? Never saying no to Robert had gotten him into this heartache in the first place.
Well to hell with Robert. To hell with Paul and Natalie, and whoeverthef*ck this guy was he was supposed to go meet. To hell with everyone, for that matter -- the family that had turned their backs when he'd come out, the friends who had called him a coward when he hadn't demanded Robert leave Natalie right away, the other friends who shook their heads and called him pathetic for his stranded little life out here in the middle of nowhere. "To hell with you all," he whispered.
But the words needed more than just a whisper. "You hear me?" Canyon raged, gasping as emotion constricted his chest. "To hell with all of you! I don't need any of you!" He shoved his chair back from the computer desk, upending it, and rushed to the pantry, grabbing one of the large plastic bags he used for recycling. Slinging the bag in the air to open it, Canyon went from room to room, filling it with Robert's things. That stupid lumberjack-looking shirt he'd left at Canyon's two years ago. Three paperback Louis L'Amour westerns. The brown stained coffee mug he'd never allowed Canyon to wash because it was seasoned just right. All of it. Every shred of proof that Robert had even been there.
Canyon flung the front door open and trudged out onto the porch, kicking over the flowerpots full of now-wilting pansies that Robert had planted. He tied the bag's handles together and tossed it out onto the lawn. Let the animals have it. Or the neighbors. Or the garbage man, for all he cared.
Halfway back to the door, Canyon stopped. Off in the distance, thunder rumbled. Thunder. Which meant rain. Which meant Robert's things would get wet. He sighed, shoulders slumped in defeat. Goddamn Robert anyway. Canyon turned and retrieved the bag.

Dylan scrutinized Jaine, arms folded across his royal blue shirt with the Storybook Valley logo stamped over the left in white block letters. “Do you wear contacts?”
“I have plenty of media contacts. Wait. Did you say wear contacts? You mean instead of these?” Jaine fingered the earpiece of her gold-rimmed glasses.
“Right. Contact lenses.”
She gave a nervous chuckle. “I scheduled a consultation in college, but was too squeamish to insert the lens. I was more comfortable in glasses.”
Was she really justifying her vision enhancement choices to her prospective new boss? Maybe he intended to discuss medical benefits. Or did he think she looked nerdy? What was the saying? Guys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses? Not that she wanted him to make a pass even if he was hot.
“How blind are you without glasses?” Dylan persisted.
“You wouldn’t want to drive with me.”
“How about if you’re walking around a building? Are you in danger of hurting yourself?”
This interview had taken the Mad Hatter Freeway from Fairy Tale Land into Wonderland where nothing made a damn bit of sense. Did this guy have a glasses fetish, like those weirdoes with shoe fetishes?
“I should be okay. I take them off for special occasions.” In fact, Jaine’s older sister Bree, who was getting married in August, remarked just last week, “You are losing the glasses for my wedding pictures, right?”
What the hell. She’d be a good sport and hope Dylan would be so grateful to pick the brain of a real, flesh and blood, bespectacled person that he would appoint her marketing director. Jaine removed her glasses and the fine details of her surroundings fuzzed. She nodded toward the framed print hanging on a side wall, the picture a wash of symbols and colors. “I can tell that’s a park map, but the words and images smear together.”
And that was myopia in a nutshell. Jaine adjusted her glasses back into place so she could see his reaction. Dylan examined her with such intensity that a blush stained her cheeks. She patted her blonde French braid, in case stray strands were straggling out.
“Here’s the situation,” Dylan said. “I took over the general manager position a few months ago. I’m evaluating possible changes and researching how other theme parks run. My grandfather and father have worked with a marketing firm for years to create our brochures, billboards, print, and radio ads.”
Jaine’s shoulders caved, imperceptible to him, but it felt as if her whole body was sinking.
No fairy tale job ending for her.
