A sweet, snarky m/m romance with kittens, cheese festivals, royal gossip, and a guaranteed HEA.

Blurb

Neel Batra is good--no, great--at his job. A consummate professional despite all the chaos of managing one of the most notorious party boy royals in Europe, he never lets Prince Thibault get under his skin. Well, almost never. And he certainly doesn't entertain any thoughts or feelings that are less than professional. Especially after an image rehab campaign sees Neel and the prince working in closer conditions than ever.

Prince Thibault d'Archimbault may be a disaster, but even he knows certain things--and people--are off limits. Even if he can't help noticing his assistant's pretty eyes, and how fun it is to annoy him. Can he practice self-control for once in his life and stay out of Neel Batra's way, even while they work together on cleaning up Thibault's reputation? Or will things get distinctly ... messy?

Excerpt

“I don’t have a car.” Three years working for the prince, and the man knew nothing about him. Typical. “I rode my bicycle.”

“Of course you did. Doing your duty, right? Protecting the environment and all that.” Thibault had a smug little smile on his face, like Neel had completely failed to surprise him. “Doesn’t it ever get tiring?”

“What gets tiring is lack of sleep. Which is why I’m leaving now,” Neel said, making no move to get up.

“Stay here for a bit. Have a drink with me. I’ll get Viola to drive you home if you’re worried about biking under the influence.”

“Absolutely not. You shouldn’t be out here, either.” Neel pointed a finger at him across the hot tub. “We’re starting your twelve-step plan or whatever it is tomorrow and you need your sleep, too. More than I do. You’ll be the one in the photos, and we can’t have you looking all gray and hungover.”

Thibault shrugged. His chest was flushed from the heat, his hair curling into his eyes. “Honestly? I couldn’t sleep either. I’m… I’m trying to take this seriously, Batra. Whether you believe me or not. And it’s making me nervous.” He poured a refill into the glass and held it out. “Come on. One drink. Just stay and… talk to me. Until I feel sleepy.”

The glass was sweaty with condensation as Neel took it from his hand. “I’m only drinking this so that you won’t,” he warned, and finished it in one gulp, before he could have any foolish thoughts about how Thibault’s mouth had been on the glass, his pink, pouty, irritating mouth–

“You, er,” said Thibault.

“We’ve all been to university, your highness,” Neel said archly.

“Yes, but you probably weren’t shooting 100-year Ankenbrandian pear brandy.”

Neel shrugged, feeling the red bloom of alcohol in his stomach, the tension beginning to seep out of his shoulders, his neck. “So, I’m to tell you a bedtime story now, is that it? Don’t recall it being part of my job description. But who knows what my job is at this point.”

Thibault took a swig from the bottle, then refilled Neel’s glass. “I guess I was just hoping that you had some plan for tomorrow. You’re so good at plans.”

Neel really ought to sip this one slowly, but he was enjoying how the over-excited clock in his head had finally started to tick down, and the stars were bright overhead and the mountains gleamed in the distance and Prince Thibault was glistening across from him like some male siren that had just emerged from the Aegean sea, and it was time, wasn’t it, that Neel told him exactly what he thought about all of this nonsense?

You are the one who came up with all of this. There is no plan. You’re petting kittens, for f*cksake.”

“Right, but, what should I wear?”

Neel waved his hand in the air dismissively. “Something casual but expensive that shows off your chest. Do you really need me to tell you all this? Just pet the kittens and look cute. Why did you choose all of these things if you don’t even want to do them?”

Thibault ran a hand through his hair. “Well, I knew I needed to tell grandmother something. And they are things I wanted to do. Most of them. Some I chose because I knew they’d annoy you.”

“I thought so. Pour me another drink.”

“You sure you’re going to be all right? The water’s really hot, and you’ve had like four shots. I’m a heavy pourer.”

“You owe me, Thibault.”

The prince slid across the hot tub, and Neel flinched at the sudden hand on his forehead. “Hm, yeah, I don’t think so,” Thibault murmured. “You’re really warm.”

“Don’t pretend you care,” Neel said, holding himself as still as possible so he wouldn’t melt. “Don’t pretend to be responsible.”

“I’m not,” Thibault said. “But you are, and you’re going to be hating yourself if you’re too hungover to get a perfectly adorable picture of me and those cats tomorrow. C’mon, Batra, let’s get you up.” He hoisted Neel onto his feet. “Out we go. We’ve got a date with some baby kittens.”

“‘Baby kittens’ is redundant,” Neel said, and fainted.

Rosavia Royals, Book 5

 RR-5-BarelyRegal-Davies-Medium

A bratty boy prince needs a firm but fair Daddy.

Prince Renford is a royal brat. Nineteen and last in line for the throne, Wren hates his made-up job: Commander of Roses. Good thing his long-time valet has a firm hand—if only Wren could tempt him to break all palace protocol and use it.

Thom Pierce is sixteen years older. Old enough to know he should ignore his prince's less-than-subtle flirtation. He's been burned by a higher-ranked boy before. His job and reputation are at stake if the palace catches a scandal unfolding under their noses.

Wren needs the part of Thom that he's kept locked away for years. If the young prince wants to be taken as seriously as his older brothers, he has to grow up fast. Thom's rules could help Wren become the man Thom knows he can be in time for the Royal Ball... or they could attract the very attention that forces them apart forever.

Exclusive from Ed & the Inspirations behind his Prince

How did you become a part of this project/world?
Funny story, actually! The covers came first—they started out as premade covers from our wonderful cover designer, AngstyG. The time zones happened to work out perfectly: I was on vacation and Helen (HJ Welch) was awake late, so we saw them straight away. Helen said, “We HAVE to do an MM royalty shared universe!” and that was it!
We’d already learned how to build a shared world while working together to run Men of Hidden Creek (I herd the cats and set up and Helen cheerleads). So we quickly set about recruiting our shared beta reader, editor, etc, and reaching out to authors as we started collaboratively building the world of Rosavia. This time, we’ve really focused on getting all the authors to beta-read for each other as we wrote so that we could nail as many crossovers as possible. And I’ve also been the main series organizer post-draft-completion, so I feel like I’ve been living in Rosavia since late February! It’s very weird but incredibly exciting to finally share it with the rest of the world.

Where did your story’s inspiration come from?
The title of Barely Regal came to me first; I knew I wanted to write the story of the youngest prince, and as a youngest child myself, I knew that he was going to be a feisty little rebel who hadn’t yet learned the importance of his own duties. Muddy little Renford (or Wren, for short) came to life in a flash. I also knew from the very start that I wanted to write his valet, Thom Pierce, experiencing a conflict of interest between his palace duties and the pull he feels to fulfil Wren’s needs.
Also, on the cover, Wren has mud streaked across his neck. I decided that he’s learning to garden, and that the roses in Rosavia represent each family. Each royal family member has their own rose created for them at birth, so when they marry, another rose is created by crossing the couple’s varieties. Of course, when you’re marrying someone you were never expected to end up with, this creates complications…

How did you create your Prince?
Once I realized that Wren had to be the youngest prince, his bratty, flirtatious nature was obvious. And every brat needs a Daddy! The obvious man for the job was Thom, the quiet valet who has guided and steered him for the last decade. These two just came to life at the same moment, because they’re so made-for-each-other.
I really wanted to tell the story of Wren growing into his duties. Through the course of the story, Wren starts off feeling like he’s not taken seriously. I think last-born kids can relate to that feeling of being babied for too long, and it’s not helped by his own bratty nature! But luckily someone’s there to see what’s immaturity and what’s Wren’s need for a strong guiding hand. Over the story, Wren comes to realize that he’s actually playing an important role in telling the royal family’s story, and his unique talents matter.

Carra's Review

Now that I’ve reached the final book of the series, I’m finding it hard to decide which has been my favorite.  I must say though that Barely Regal does have an bit of an edge not just for the off-limits romance between the youngest prince, Wren, and his valet, Thom, not just for the age gap romance, and not just for the Daddy/boy relationship with a bit of kink thrown in.  It’s for all of those aspects put together.

Both Wren and Thom have been attracted to each other for a while.  Thom though is very conscious of his place in the royal household, and his duty comes first.  Then there’s Wren, and his insistent pushing…and pushing…and pushing with his bratty, deliberate behavior.  Wren’s tired of waiting and hoping, and is working now to spark something into happening.  Someone needs to get him in line, and you know exactly who it will be.

Wren’s character goes through plenty of growth in this story—not just with his relationship with Thom, which does center him and increase his patience, but also with how he’s finding his place within the family and his royal duties.

As for that relationship with Thom?  their characters do complement each other, and Thom is exactly what Wren needs to settle him down.  If one of the ways in which he does so is through discipline and training (read: spankings and light BDSM), all the better for us readers ;-)

4.5 stars for Barely Regal…my only regret with this story is that a certain nosy so-called reporter doesn’t get quite what she truly deserves at the royal ball—I was really hoping for something more profound.  Maybe painful.  And embarrassing (for her).  Ah, well…this is still a fantastic read and as with the other stories in the series it is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Book 1: Up for Heir By Stella Starling

Royal Librarian Edvin Blom is good at not attracting attention. Shy and self-conscious of his stutter, he’s used to being overlooked and more than happy to stay in the background. At least, until the crown prince with a wild reputation shows up at the library’s new opening and decides to flirt with Edvin’s sister…

Edvin isn’t at all what Leo thought he wanted, but turns out to be everything he can’t stay away from. Edvin’s been burned by falling for someone out of his league before, though. And believing that Leo has really fallen for him? While Edvin’s drowning in his own doubts and insecurities, that might prove impossible… unless love gives them both a reason to come up for air.

Exclusive from Max & the Inspirations behind her Prince

How did you become a part of this project/world? I was part of the creation of Men of Hidden Creek, so when I was approached about starting a new shared universe about a small European country, the offer coincided with my availability, and so I leaped at the chance.

Where did your story’s inspiration come from? I took a lot of my inspiration from the cover. He looks very serious, doesn’t he? I wanted to build on why such a young prince looks like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, and since I like to write what I know – intelligence agencies – the fact that this prince was actually one of Rosavia’s top spies just clicked into place.
Of course, as we all know, an agent is nothing without his tools, and so creating his equal and yet very opposite seemed so obvious to me. And so grew the story of a highly trained secret agent and the prodigal genius who designs and makes those tools for him, and the way they butt heads when they’re forced to work together.
I think this is the best book I’ve written so far. Benedict and Felix are special to me. I hope they will be to you, too.

How did you create your Prince?
Benedict very much came to life for me when I sat down to write the prologue. By then I had worked out his past, how he came to be a spy while also being a high-profile member of the royal family. I’d researched European royal families and their ties to their countries’ militaries, so making Benedict secretly a spy while the whole country believed he was actually part of Rosavia’s army made sense to me. But his personality – what that enormous responsibility and the intensive training had done to make him the young man he is today – really settled in when I began to write. All the little details came together to build this intensely competent agent whose life is kept secret even from his own brothers, and the sense of duty and yet aching loneliness that created in him shone right from the start.

Carra's Review

I loved, loved, loved this nerdy brainiac meets hot-and-sexy supposed playboy story!  It gives you that nerd/jock vibe with the added bonus of the excitement of international espionage, all with the building attraction between the main characters peppered in along the way.

Felix is incredibly intelligent, but unfortunately growing up as a genius prodigy isn’t conducive to much of a social life.  As for Benedict, I really liked how his character is a huge departure from the rest of the Rosavian princes, largely due to his job.  That he is struggling with who he really is and what there is to his life beyond that job adds just the right amount of internal conflict for him but it doesn’t cross into super-angsty (thankfully!).

With the tension between Felix and Benedict running so high right from the moment they meet, the story quickly sucks you in.  The backdrop of the stolen crown jewels, the mission to recover them, and the hunt for those responsible means there is also a lot of excitement and stress with which they have to deal.  This all came together to make this book unputdownable for me.

I thought Felix and Benedict made a great match; they complemented each other and each was able to learn from the other both personally and professionally.  The physical chemistry?  Lordy.  A huge check in the yes column there!

In His Court was a 4.5-star read for me, and is definitely going to be one I re-read in the future.  And now that I’m on the fourth book of this five book series (which I’m reading in order), I enjoyed seeing where all the other brothers’ stories are falling into place with each other now that I have almost all the pieces.  Like the other books in the series, this one is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Exclusive from Zoe & the Inspirations behind her Prince:

Throne Together

How did you become a part of this project/world?
It was pure luck! My first trilogy (Best Men, Inc.) which was going to be my debut is structured like their Men of Hidden Creek books because they all take place at the same time and overlap heavily. They wanted to help a new author get started and I made myself available to drop everything and write a book with them! Now I’m debuting with Rosavia instead (and I’m incorporating the lessons I’ve learned into Best Men, Inc.). A dream come true!
Where did your story’s inspiration come from?
The title was already decided when I entered the Rosavian world. Throne Together was obviously going to be about two princes. It made sense for them to know each other their whole life and even be raised together for diplomacy reasons. I lurrrrve a slow burn, yearning, childhood-friends-to-lovers story! The Royal Ball gave me the perfect excuse to throw these two star-crossed lovers together to uncross their stars, untangle their feelings and fall madly in love with a time limit ticking down!
How did you create your Prince?
I have the only two-princes story! I wanted these two princes to be raised together so they would speak both Rosavian and Thedian, know each other inside-out-and-upside-down from birth, be totally comfortable around each other… until the big world-changing event, of course… ;)

Julius, the Rosavian prince, had to be a LITTLE bit of a himbo—big and sweet but emotionally clueless about what his best friend has always felt for him. He’s even kind of clueless about whether he’s attracted to men or women since he hasn’t realized that it’s only ever been Dante for him. Meanwhile Dante, the Thedian prince, is totally aware he’s been pining for Julius ever since he left for his own country and adult responsibilities.

The most fun part was all the research involved in creating my own little country. I wanted Thedes to be its own place, yet feel familiar to anyone who’s been to the Mediterranean. Lazy hot days, white stones, airy halls, shimmering harbors… Dante finding out his love for painting made sense! Meanwhile, Julius is from a world of alpine lakes and lush green fields, steep red roofs and narrow cobbled streets. His family also played a big role in shaping him, of course.

Carra's Review

Friends to lovers is always one of my favorite tropes, and toss in a couple of princes as the friends?  That’s a recipe for a really good read.  I loved that Jules and Dante had been best friends and closer than anyone practically their entire lives, to me those types of relationships are some of the most fun to read.

Both Jules and Dante are drawn to each other, neither one feeling truly complete without the other.  Their first and only attempt at a physical relationship leaves them awkward with each other, and Jules for sure is confused about his feelings.  When they reconnect several years later, some of that awkwardness is still there since nothing was ever really resolved between them, but eventually their attraction will win out.

These two are SUCH a good match, the only thing that was a little frustrating was them not just coming right out and talking to each other.  The lack of communication in these types of setups is what always frustrates me since to me it just creates unnecessary angst (I’m really over angst nowadays!).  Thank goodness love finally breaks those barriers.  There’s a bit of family drama on Dante’s side, balanced by the interactions with the family on Jules’s side.

Throne Together was somewhere between 4-4.5 stars for me overall, and once Dante and Jules admit to their feelings it was wonderful to see them together.  There’s a bit of adult language and sexual content (lordy are these two super-sexy hot together!), so this book is meant for readers 18+.

Book 1: Up for Heir By Stella Starling

1

A playboy heir needs a man to marry, right now.

After spending half his life dodging his duty to the crown, the rebel heir to the Rosavian throne has been told in no uncertain terms that it’s time to settle down. Crown Prince Leopold has one month and a vetted list of suitable princesses, and he will announce his engagement during Rosavia’s Royal Ball. But Leo’s got his own ideas about what really suits him…

Book 2: Reign or Shine By HJ Welch

2

A secret prince needs a lost tourist to save.

Prince Cassander is on vacation from his overdeveloped sense of duty. While hiding out as simply ‘Cas’ in the Rosavian capital, he rescues a gorgeous, distressed American tourist. Matty has no idea that Cas is second in line to the throne. And with only two weeks together to explore the sparks between them, he doesn’t need to ever find out.

New Yorker Matty Doyle is a fish out of water, taking care of his niece and mending his broken heart. When Cas rescues him, the handsome stranger coaxes Matty out of his shell and he throws caution to the wind. Nobody knows him here. Would it hurt to live a little for once?

But a prince can’t stay secret in his own country for long. Cas would give anything to protect Matty from reality, but how can this fantasy together continue when they belong in different worlds?

Book 4: In His Court By Max Rowan

4

A spy prince needs a man who sees through his disguise.

Prince Benedict is not what he seems. His image as a lazy playboy is carefully constructed to hide the truth. Trained since childhood to become Rosavia's top spy, he spends his life in disguise—and danger—to protect his country. Nobody sees the loneliness in his heart.

Felix Wright is a genius with four degrees, no real-world experience, and a top-secret job... and he's never even been kissed. A lifetime of being alienated for his most valuable assets has left him reluctant to trust the charming prince who thrusts him into fieldwork for the very first time.

When the Crown Jewels are stolen two weeks before the royal ball, it's their job to save the country's reputation. Benedict helps Felix believe in himself, while Felix slowly coaxes the real prince out of hiding. But can they find the jewels and rescue the most priceless treasures of all: each other?

Book 5: Barely Regal By E. Davies
