We're celebrating the release of WHEN WE FALL by Marquita Valentine! Join in the fun!

Title: When We Fall (Take the Fall #2)
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: Decemeber 8, 2015

Book Description:
The last time Piper Ross saw her best friend’s sexy older brother, Jase Simmons, he was being taken away in handcuffs. Seven years later, two things haven’t changed: Piper is still head-over-heels in love with him . . . and Forrestville’s chief of police—Piper’s dad—still hates his guts. So when Piper sees a chance to get close to Jase, she makes her move—literally. As his new roommate, and as the office manager of his tattoo shop, Piper won’t be satisfied until Jase knows that she wants to be his.

The quintessential good girl, Piper is pure temptation for Jase. The only reason he’s always kept his distance is because she’s the last person he’d ever want to hurt. But once he realizes that Piper is ready to take the leap, everything just makes sense. Suddenly Jase feels like a new man—until nasty rumors start swirling and Piper’s heartless father stirs up even more trouble. Now Jase must convince Piper that she wasn’t wrong about him . . . because falling in love never felt so right.

My Review

I've always been a fan of Marquita Valentine's books, and I love her characters...and Jase and Piper in When We Fall are no exception.  We got to meet them in Take the Fall, and after reading that I was eager to hear more about Jase and Piper.

Jase is so easy to fall for--the tattooed bad boy, fresh out of prison; and Piper is sweet though tends to fall back on her submissive ways when confronted (and no, I don't mean in the bedroom).  Thanks to her upbringing with some pretty awful snobbish, hands-off parents, her self-confidence took some pretty big blows.  Thankfully, she's breaking out of that here in When We Fall.

It's nice seeing scenes (in flashbacks) of Jase and Piper when they were younger since it shows they've always had some kind of connection.  And the two of them together present day first starts off with Jase trying to stay away, but as we know--that never works ;-)

As far as the events in the story go, up until about two-thirds in I was totally on board with everything, but the scenes with Piper's parents felt a little over-the-top, and in the last third of the book, the story felt a little choppy to me and things seemed to happen to quickly.

I am interested to hear more about the other characters in the story, particularly Emmett and Hunter, so I'm hoping they will have their own books in this series.  As for When We Fall, it was a 3.5-star read for me, and is meant for those 18+ due to adult language and explicit sexual content.
