As the daughter of the corporate king, Jessen Cade is duty-bound to honor her arranged marriage to a man she detests. Feeling trapped by family duty and a loveless future, she longs for more, straying to the Morgon side of the city.
Lucius Nightwing is the eldest son of the powerful Morgon clan, and the greatest enemy of Jessen’s father. When a bar-room brawl thrusts Jessen into his arms, his dragon roars to the surface, craving to sate his carnal hunger in the brown-eyed beauty. The beast in Lucius recognizes her as his own, even if the man refuses to admit the truth.

Excerpt- Prologue
Thousands of years ago, Radomis, the dragon king of the North, took flight on the last full moon of winter. Beating great, black wings, he soared away from his mountainous kingdom, lured by some unknown force to the sultry lands in the west where humans dwelled. Dragons and humans had always lived apart.
On this same night, Princess Morga honored the fertility rite of bathing under the full moon the night before her wedding. As she stepped from the natural steaming pool, rivulets of water glistened over milk-pale skin, ebony hair slicked over her breasts and down her back. The dragon king saw her. Instant desire ensnared his beastly heart. He descended.
Shifting into human form, a man of might and beauty, he murdered her guards and handmaidens. Horrified, Morga could do nothing when the dragon king took her in his arms, hard lust in cold eyes. The moment his tongue licked into her mouth, she felt the burning of soulfire—the dragon elixir meant for his one and only mate. Golden heat melted through blood and bone, filling her with euphoric pleasure, bonding her to him forever.
Radomis took her on the ground among bloody bodies and moon-shadows, intent to sate his hunger. One night would never be enough. Shifting into dragon form, he carried her in his claws back to his kingdom. She would be his queen, trapped in a gilded cage of opulence as the object of his endless desire.
From their union, a child was born—an abomination. A human body with dragon wings and dragon strength. The boy, Larkos, was outcast among dragonkind, including his father. Only Morga showed him any love.
When Larkos reached manhood, he wielded his rage with an avenging sword, tracking and killing all of dragonkind. Even in beast form, his father could not match him, finally falling to the forgotten son’s sword. What Larkos did not know was that soulfire bonded his loving mother to the beast in such a way that when his dragon-heart stopped beating, so did hers.
This is the tale I’d been told when my body began changing from child to woman, a warning for young girls to beware of Morgon men.
“Never stray from your own kind, Jessen,” my mother would say, “or you could end up like Princess Morga, a slave and outcast to be abhorred.”
The problem was, I’d never been a very obedient daughter. Never the one to do exactly as I was told. And fairy tales have no meaning when the stars align and Fortune spins her wheel, weaving her own story for your heart.

My Review

If you haven't read Soulfire yet, you need to put it on your TBR list ASAP.  This is the great start to a unique series, with a fascinating world that the author has created.  One that I liked so much, I was wishing that the book would have been fleshed out to at least twice its length so I could have enjoyed it for longer than the couple of hours it took me to read.  The writing was done very well, so I easily flew right through the book...leaving me wishing at the end that the next story was already out so I could delve back into this captivating world.

Excellent characters-especially Jessen and Sorcha from the ladies and all of the Morgon characters-that are strong-willed, feisty, protective and written in such a way that makes you want to undoubtedly side with them.  And on the other end, you have Jessen's family and her supposed fiancĂ© (according to her easy-to-hate father)-characters who are only out for themselves and have no regard for anyone else.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, and the sort of star-crossed lovers feeling you get from it.  This one's definitely a story for re-reading, and I'm now anxiously awaiting the next story in the series so I can get my next fix from this enthralling world.

4.5 dragon-sized stars for this outstanding start to the Nightwing series.  If the phenomenal cover doesn't draw you in, the spellbinding story definitely will.

Promo Review Tour and Giveaway: Need You Tonight by Marquita Valentine

Title: Need You Tonight (Boys of the South #6)
Age Group: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 20, 2014
Cover Designer: Sarah Hansen at Okay Creations

Book Description:

In small towns, dirty little secrets don’t remain secret for long…

Everyone loves Parker Morgan, especially the high society ladies who pay thousands for his time. Becoming a male escort hadn’t been something Parker wanted to do, but when his family needed money to survive, he compromised everything he believed in to make ends meet. But there are two things he refuses to do—one, be paid for sex. Two, let himself fall for his beautiful new neighbor. She’s too pure and sweet for him. And that sadness in her eyes… he doesn’t want know the cause of it. He has too many problems of his own.

A war widow at only twenty-two, Brooklyn Reeves has lived a shadowed existence for two years. Desperate to start over, she moves to Forrestville, never dreaming her new neighbor would be so sexy—not that she wants a relationship of any kind with him. Besides, he’s completely hostile and rude anytime they run into one another. Unfortunately, he’s also her handyman, and she’s forced to repeatedly call on him when one thing after another goes wrong with her rental house.

Only, as spring turns to summer, Brooklyn begins to sees a new side to Parker—one that makes her reconsider her opinion of him. Sparks fly, igniting a hunger that neither of them can resist.

But are either of them prepared for the consequences, once Parker’s dirty little secret comes to light?

MY REVIEW

Need You Tonight provides a highly emotional start-not just for Brooklyn but for Parker as well (even though he would claim quite the opposite).  And as you get to know these characters, you can easily see that they are perfect to help each other heal and start over.  The scene where the two meet in person for the first time really shows the raw emotion Brooklyn is still going through.

Watching the two of them get to know each other and slowly come together makes for an intriguing story, while you stay a bit on the edge wondering what will happen if and when Brooklyn finds out about Parker's past.

I was rooting for the two of them from the start since it was so obvious that they are meant to be together.  And the smooth writing and compelling secondary characters have me wanting to go back and read the rest of the books in this series...because after reading this story, I'm surprised I haven't found this author sooner!

An emotional, romantic 4-star read, I'd recommend it for anyone who loves a story of healing and emotion with a bit of scandal thrown in for good measure.

Blog Tour-Review and Giveaway: Forgiving Reed by C.A. Harms

Welcome to the Forgiving Reed Blog Tour stop here on Making it Happen!

Kori suffered a great loss, one that left her feeling so desolate and alone, that she believed nothing would ever fill the void…

The only thing that kept her going was the one little piece of joy she still had in her life, her baby boy, Rhett.

She had no choice but to move forward and give her son the best life she could. Which meant moving back home.

Except there was one problem

Home was where Reed would be…

The man who once held her heart, then shattered it into a million pieces.

Grieving the loss of Rhett's dad, and learning to forgive those who have betrayed her, Kori was battling it all.

But will she ever have the strength to forgive Reed?

My Review

Pure emotional overload.  That's what I had reading the first third of this book, and that kept coming back over and over throughout the story.  From the tearjerking beginning to the how-could-you-not-love-it wonderful end, I thoroughly enjoyed Forgiving Reed.

The characters were well developed, full of emotion, and felt so very real.  I was wishing and hoping that everything would turn out well for them, because as I read I just kept thinking that they deserved a happy ending.  Kori-my heart went out to her from the start, and her strong character makes her so easy to root for.  And then you have Reed.  I felt badly for him in the beginning, and with his big heart and loyalty to Kori when she returns home, I wanted so badly for Kori to be able to forgive him and be able to resolve everything.

This story had a great balance of drama, romance and tension.  Even with as over-the-moon as Reed is for Kori, it never felt overdone and his attitude only contributed to the depth of emotion that was so evident throughout the book.

With a great cast of secondary characters--who will also have you looking forward to the next book in this series--and such wonderful writing, it was so easy for me to give Forgiving Reed 5 emotional, second-chance stars.

Put this on your TBR if you haven't already--I definitely recommend it!

Blog Tour-Review and Giveaway: A Beautiful Purpose by Alicia Rae

A Beautiful Purpose Synopsis:
*Book 6 in The Beautiful Series or Standalone*
All Blake Johnson knows is the life of a Marine. After serving his country for eight years, he returns to his family for some rest and rehabilitation. Fighting an internal war, he battles sleepless nights as images of his former military days haunt him.
From the moment Audrey Hampton walks into his life, he is drawn to her. Her beauty leaves him breathless and weak in the knees. She kindles a spark of hope deep within his soul, igniting a part of himself he feared was missing. Her never-ending compassion for others opens his heart in a way he never dreamed.
But Audrey is hiding wounds of her own. Returning to Lake Tahoe to care for her ill mother triggers painful childhood memories of her parents’ loveless marriage, reminding her there is no such thing as true love.
Will Blake’s resolve be powerful enough to open Audrey’s sealed heart? Or will Audrey fear the past and risk losing the man who could give her life a newfound purpose?
Can two wounded souls become one?

My Review:

This is one of those books where things are so sweet, but also a bit frustrating.  But you'll find that the sweet outweighs the rest, and the result is a wonderful contemporary romance with a male lead that will steal your heart.

Blake is pretty much the definition of perfect.  In addition to the hot and sexy factor, he's intelligent, loyal, knows exactly what to say-and not just to Audrey...and just everything about him will make you swoon.  Audrey is a sweet girl with plenty of love to give-if she wasn't so marked by her parents' relationship.  When the two of them start to interact, they fit together perfectly-so for me, Audrey's constant pushing back with her falling back on the "no such thing as true love" excuse was frustrating and did wear on me a bit.

But the story is so well told, flowing easily and keeping my interest the whole way through, that I can overlook Audrey's less than enthusiastic outlook on love.  And even though this book is part of the Beautiful series, it is able to be read as a standalone.  It is nice though, getting to see the characters from previous books as their stories continue.

The epilogue at the end was just a little too much "tie it up with a bow", but it still adds to the overall sweet romance theme going on through the story.  And while this is sweet, you also will get a nice bit of spice thrown in for good measure ;-)

An overall 4-star read for me, and a great conclusion to the Beautiful series.

Release Day Blitz, Review and Giveaway: Last Light by M. Pierce

Last Light by M. Pierce Release Blitz – October 28th

Title:   Last Light  (Night Owl Trilogy Book #2)
Author:   M. Pierce
Release Date: October 28, 2014
Genre:   Contemporary Erotic Romance
Synopsis:
Tensions rise, secrets grow bigger, and passions run deeper—and hotter—in Last Light, the second novel of the Night Owl Trilogy from bestselling author M. Pierce.

Matt Sky is missing. After a solo ascent of Longs Peak that left only a large blood stain, tatters of climbing clothing, and the tracks of an animal in the snow, he is presumed dead.

Hannah Catalano is guarding a secret: she knows Matt is alive. After Matt's memorial service, she lingers on the East Coast with his family, but it soon becomes clear that his brothers' motives are less than gracious. Nate Sky is bent on tracking down the author of Night Owl, a book that charts the last days of Matt's life with uncanny and scandalous accuracy, and which appeared only after his death. Seth Sky is bent on getting Hannah into his bed.

Hidden away in the woods, Matt and Hannah strive desperately to maintain their ruse and their relationship—but their web of lies only tightens as Matt struggles with the consequences of his decision, and Hannah tries to escape Nate's libel suit and fend off Seth's advances...until Hannah is put in danger, and Matt must make a life or death choice.

My Review
I absolutely loved Night Owl, and going into Last Light I had very high expectations.  Not only were those expectations met, they were shattered.

Matt is still Matt (ahh, Matt)…insecure, dominant, still unable to totally open up to Hannah, dirty-talking, sexy…Matt.  You will still want him, still pity him, still want to shake him to make him realize he is everything Hannah wants-all of him, no matter what.  But his insecurities are still there, causing issues and driving up the tension-which of course kept me glued to the pages and not wanting to put the book down.

Hannah has her own issues, and being away from Matt doesn’t help-and neither do Matt’s actions.  Matt’s trust issues and other insecurities cause such a rift…and you hate to see it because you KNOW the two of them should be together.

Now add in Seth, Matt’s brother, and his pursuit of Hannah.  You’ve just ramped up the tension and suspense and added in that “oh my God, where the heck is this going to go?” factor that draws you in even more.  I honestly didn’t really like Seth’s character with his flippant, rocker personality, though I did feel badly for him-I just couldn’t help that.

You will get the unbelievably steamy sex scenes.  You will get the angst and tension-not to mention a twist or two.  And you will get the love.  And you will NOT be able to put this book down.

5 chart-topping stars for this 18+ erotic romance, and now I sit here lost while I have to wait for the final installment of this astounding trilogy.  I’ll bet it’s going to be a doozy.

Excerpt from Last Light
Matt insisted on carrying me to the bathroom. I hugged his neck.

“Matt, you realize I can walk with a black eye, right?”

“I’ll be the judge of that.” He set me on the counter and I squeaked; the marble was frigid under my bare bottom. He dropped one of my bath bombs in the tub and watched it fizz and color the water purple.

Once, I managed to convince Matt to use a bath bomb with me. It was called a “sex bomb” and it was supposed to “put us in the mood” with “exciting scents” and “natural pheromones.” I grinned at the memory. As soon as Matt realized the bomb was coating his skin in sparkles, he leapt out of the tub ranting about “looking Twilighty” and “smelling like a girl.”

“What’re you grinning at?”

“You.” I smiled. “And this bath, which is such a transparent effort to avoid saying goodbye. Sweet… but transparent.”

Matt frowned and paced the small space of the bathroom. Ha! I was right. Matt planned to leave me in the tub and slip away.

My poor, adorable night owl—he really had issues with goodbyes.

“No,” he mumbled. “Maybe…”

“Can I induce you to stay a little longer?” I uncrossed my legs deliberately and spread them. Matt watched. He folded his arms and tilted his head.

“How does your cheek feel?”

“They’re cold.” I grinned.

“And you say I’m bad.” He slid me off the sink and turned me. I watched our reflection through the patchy steam on the mirror. Matt—God, he was so tall, and the look on his face was arresting. He wanted me. I knew that look.
