Book Review: ALTERED by Marnee Blake

Altered by Marnee Blake

Goodreads Synopsis

A new adult romance from Entangled's Embrace imprint...

When "normal" ends, survival begins...

The sickness came on suddenly and violently. When it was done, waitress Blue Michaels was different in a really strange way. And the entire town of Glory was dead...except for her.

Only that's not exactly true. A handful of people made it, including U.S. Army Specialist Seth Campbell, who was caught in the wrong town at the worst time. He's fierce and protective, and way too good-looking. As much as they need a leader—as much as Blue wants to trust him—there are too many questions and not enough time for answers. Now they are hunted. But what their pursuers don't know is each of them has strange new powers. And they'll use their "gifts" to survive...no matter who stands in their way.

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

I thought that Altered had a very interesting concept, and the author does a great job at setting up the plot. I also liked getting the story for multiple viewpoints, I find that this gives a story much more depth and you get to see things from different angles.

There is a ton of action and suspense…enough to keep your blood pumping from start to finish, but it does overshadow the romance between Seth and Blue quite a bit, which makes their expression of their feelings for each other toward the end a bit unrealistic to me—especially since they really haven’t known each other long.

This story does have my interest piqued for more, and I am interested to see where the others’ stories go, especially Kitty…so I’m hoping we’ll be getting more soon.

If you like more action and suspense in your romantic suspense stories, Altered will easily meet your expectations. It is well written and the actions does keep you engaged in the story. For me, I prefer more of the romance to shine through, so that’s why my star rating is 3.5—the heavy reliance on the action/suspense aspect just dominated more of the story than I would have liked.
