A spicy hot retelling of A Christmas Carol

Blurb

Marley Jacobs is dead, and Max Masters Scrooge has no time for the grieving son’s sob story. Even if Jacobs Jr. is kinda cute—for a nerd.

Daniel Jacobs is anxious, drifting, and lonely. His gut tells him he’s overdue for a dose of self care, but the thought of setting foot in a gym gives him hives. Though he craves gentle guidance, what he gets is the heavy hand of the gym’s head trainer and sleaziest playboy, Max Masters.

Accustomed to topping the leader board, among other things, Max sells Daniel on his gold package. After things get steamy in the locker room showers, Max is ready to make like a ghost and vanish, as usual. But this time, he won’t get away with his selfish antics, not if a vengeful past hookup with a powerful uncle has anything to say about it.

MM Scrooge is a spicy hot horror retelling of A Christmas Carol, as part of the collaboration Monsters & Mayhem: An MM Horror Collection, adapting some of your favorite classic horror stories with an MM romance twist.

Content Warnings:

This book’s list of potential warnings is longer than my grocery list. Buckle in. Readers, feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions. In no particular order: Dub-con that some readers may interpret as non-con. Consent issues. Poorly negotiated BDSM elements. Sexual violence/spanking. Sex as punishment. Death of a parent/grief. Medical kink. Sexually explicit scenes.

That said, this book doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that list might make it look darker than it really is. Better to err of the side of caution.

Excerpt

Just when I think my first workout is done, Max directs me back to the turf. “Now that you’ve got the hang of it, we’ll repeat each station for four rounds. Squats, rotations, rows. Ten reps each. Thirty seconds between stations. Ready?”

I widen my eyes. “I’m sorry. I could have sworn you said four rounds. I must have misheard. What?”

Max grins. “You’ve got this. Round one, Daniel. Knock it out.”

So I do what the man says and squat.

By the time I’m actually done, sweat beads on my forehead and drips down into crevices that are decidedly not meant to be wet in public. Will I be able to walk tomorrow? Time will tell. My arms are made of pudding.

Max’s warm hand lands on my damp back and squeezes my shoulder. “Nice work. You’ve got grit.”

He can’t possibly mean that, but I thank him anyway. I glance up to meet his eyes. His are hazel, ringed brown in the center and green at the edges.

“How do you feel?”

I blink. My heart pounds, and I’m gulping for air like a fish out of water, but…I feel good. Like maybe I could keep going, or I don’t know, jog somewhere or something. Not a feeling I’m accustomed to. “Great, actually.”

He leans in. He’s a head taller, but he stands close enough his breath ruffles my hair. “It’s the endorphins. They’re a rush, huh?”

“Yeah, a rush.” So this is why people work out.

His gaze lingers on mine. “You want to hit the showers?”

“Oh, I don’t need to wash up.” I didn’t come prepared for that. I don’t even have a change of clothes in my bag. “I’m going home after this. I’ll shower there.”

Max arches his dark brows and darts his tongue out, wetting his upper lip. “I didn’t ask if you needed to. I asked if you wanted to.” His eyes trail down my body like a caress and land on my groin. He looks hungry.

And now that I think about it…tasty.

“Oh.” What an offer. It’s not like me to put out on the first date, and this isn’t even date adjacent.

Orgasms fall under the umbrella of self-care, right? Opportunities like this just don’t land in my lap every day. But will sex make future training sessions awkward? I don’t want things to get weird, though rejecting him would do that too, so…

I peer up at him through my lashes, not completely lacking wiles of my own. “Now that you mention it, I am rather dirty.”

Max’s glinting smile could cut diamonds. “Right this way.”

A strict Daddy. A sassy neighbour. Can opposites attract?

Blurb

After taking early retirement, Liam is happy avoiding people and tending to his roses. Or he was, until young film star Felix moves in next door.

With his cheeky, persistent, and very naughty behaviour, Felix gets under Liam’s skin instantly.

Felix needs Liam to teach him how to behave, but will calling the older man Daddy be enough to bring sunshine into Liam’s life?

A boy Made of Sunshine is a standalone gay romance, with mild D/s play, Daddy kink, a cute Dalmatian puppy, a ridiculous glow in the dark toy, and lots of brattish behaviour.

Excerpt

When a removal van finally arrived in the first week of summer, Liam’s hopes that his quiet existence would continue undisturbed were dashed.

He’d never regarded himself as a curtain twitcher before, but he found himself peering out of his bedroom window as three burly men unloaded the large van. The furniture didn’t scream ‘quiet retired couple’ to him. It was too modern, too loud. Who on earth owned a bright purple sofa, for crying out loud? The bed was even worse. It was a huge monstrosity, easily king-sized, and Liam couldn’t help but feel sorry for the men carrying it into the house. The bed frame was black, probably made of leather, judging by the way the sunlight made the fabric shine, with a massive surround, part of which looked like some kind of lounge chair. Did it even have a built-in speaker? Who needed a built-in speaker in their bed?

His jaw dropped a little more at every item of furniture that was brought into the house. The coffee table looked like it doubled as an aquarium, although thankfully there were no fish in it. There was a bookcase in the shape of a dog, a dining table with what looked like a solid marble top, overstuffed dining chairs, a pool table, and even a bar!

The painting was the last straw.

The canvas and frame combined must have been six feet tall, making the man that had been painted upon it almost life size. Not only was he nude, but he was grasping his c*ck, his head tilted back slightly, eyes closed, making it obvious that he was in the midst of pleasuring himself. Liam had never been so glad to have no other neighbours. The painting was glorious—he had to adjust himself to make his aching c*ck more comfortable in his pants—but why in God’s name hadn’t it been covered up? Clearly, his new neighbour had no decorum whatsoever.

Carra's Review

Okay, all those who love a bratty, naughty boy, raise your hands.  Yep, this one’s definitely for all of you!  Felix definitely is a naughty boy, and he’s also a bit ostentatious when it comes to his belongings (though I must admit his coffee table sounds intriguing).  He does need someone to get a handle on him, and though Liam’s grumpy self might not want anything to do with him, Felix’s personality—and persistence—wind up sucking him in.

This is very much an opposites attract story, and those of you who love the “grumpy one falls for the sunshine one” trope will find yourselves right at home with Liam and Felix.  Felix is a pro at pushing Liam’s buttons; to be honest I thought Liam too easily gave in to Felix wanting to be punished (after all, it’s not really a punishment if you like it and get off on it, right?)

The majority of the book is concentrated on the time they spend together, with a very small portion near the end bringing in some supporting characters.  Even though for most of the time it’s just the two of them, the absence of other people does not take anything away from the story.  Everything is pretty lighthearted with plenty of teasing from Felix, so the angst level is extremely low.

All in all this made for a fun read with a touch of kink, and I’m giving A Boy Made of Sunshine 4 stars.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Book Review: MR. NAUGHTY LIST by Leta Blake (Home for the Holidays #2)

MR. NAUGHTY LIST
by Leta Blake

A cute teacher gets a spanking this Christmas. How hot can it get being on his former student’s Naughty List?

Is Aaron allowed to want a hot holiday fling with his young former student? Even more forbidden, is he allowed to want this student to spank him?

It’s another Christmas, and Aaron is still in the closet as a gay man and a natural submissive. With one youthful indiscretion blacking his ethics record, he can’t afford to indulge his desires no matter how pent up and needy that leaves him.

Until his former student comes home for the holidays.

Dominant and charming, RJ knows what Aaron needs—intense, steamy encounters and a firm hand. As Christmas nears, RJ helps Aaron unlock his true self. But family and fallout await, and all good things must end.

Or can their hot holiday affair turn them into lasting lovers?

Mr. Naughty List is a steamy Christmas MM romance set in the Home for the Holidays series that began with Mr. Frosty Pants, but can be read as a standalone. Featuring light D/s, spanking, an older sub with a younger Dom, former student/teacher dynamics, and, of course, warm, sweet holiday feels complete with a strong happy ending.

Carra's Review

One good way to judge how much I enjoyed a book is by how quickly I get around to re-reading it.  Mr. Naughty List?  I’ve read twice already in less than a month.  It has a dynamic between the main characters that I love—a younger dominant personality with an older submissive one—and that it’s a former student and his teacher makes the matchup even more enticing.

The story has a just-right balance of naughty and nice (oh come on, it’s a holiday romance…I just had to say it), with not too much kink but still enough steam to keep you fanning yourself.  Now toss in some really solid relationship development, and I was fully invested in Aaron and RJ getting their HEA.

There were two main areas of drama, first concerning Aaron’s mother—don’t EVEN get me started on her or you might never hear the end of it about that unsupportive, appearances-are-everything b*tch…thank heavens for his dad though, he at least does parenting right.  The other is with RJ’s stepbrother, which is not as angsty as what’s going on with Aaron’s mother, but unfortunately does connect to her at a certain point.

You’ll find plenty of intensity between Aaron and RJ, and it’s pretty darn satisfying to watch their holiday fling evolve into so much more than either of them expect.  I easily became engrossed in this story, and it’s definitely one of my favorite holiday romances this year.  It will absolutely become a yearly holiday read…if I can wait that long to read it again!

Mr. Naughty List gets a 5-star rating from me, and I do highly recommend it to any M/M romance fan (and not just for the holidays).  While this is the second book in the series and the main characters from the first story, Mr. Frosty Pants, do show up here, it does stand on its own.  I did like this one more than the first book, mainly because I felt more invested in the characters…and the naughty bits might have caught my attention more…okay, a whole lot more.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Thirty minutes later, she stood reaching for a potted vase sitting on the top shelf in the showroom when the bell over the door pealed.  Before she could climb off the short stool, hard hands clasped her waist and lifted her down as if she weighed nothing.  Flustered, she looked up, gritted her teeth and shifted in uncomfortable awareness when her eyes met Chief Nolan MacGregor’s amused gaze.  Okay, she admitted it wasn’t the man’s physical appearance she objected to.  What woman wouldn’t look twice at a six foot two, broad shouldered, slim hipped man who wore a Stetson tipped low enough to draw the eyes to the slit of his cobalt blue gaze?  No, it was the arrogant dominance he wore like a comfortable coat that put her on edge whenever he entered her place, more so now he was crowding her against the shelves and making her even more aware of that ripped body.  She much preferred easy-going, polite men.
Wishing it was anyone but him, she stated with a huff, “You’re crowding me, Chief.”
Those sensuous lips curved in a slow smile as he stepped back.  “I wouldn’t make you so uncomfortable if you’d let yourself cut loose with me.”
Damn.  There went that warm flush spreading through her body when he thumbed back his hat far enough for those enigmatic, blue eyes to zero in on her with a long perusal.  He made no effort to hide the appreciative trail he took from her braided, dark brown hair to her sneaker-clad feet.  How one look from him could make her dormant body sit up and take notice when she didn’t even like the man was beyond her.  She sure as heck didn’t like it.  She’d never been one to be ruled by baser urges, instead preferring a positive connection with a man or woman before embarking on a friendship, something that was definitely lacking between her and the chief.
Shuffling behind the counter, Mia breathed a sigh of relief once she put the wide, butcher block space between them.  She glanced up, way up at the only man who’d been able to get under her skin.  There wasn’t one thing she could pinpoint that rubbed her the wrong way; instead, it seemed to be the uneasy combination of arrogance, dominance and male magnetism she objected to, and her betraying body’s response to those undesirable traits.  There was no use denying the way her pulse spiked under the slow stroke of his ice-blue eyes that was as potent as a caress, a reaction she should be used to by now since it had been occurring from the moment she first set eyes on him kissing that woman all those years ago.
“Thanks, Chief, but I have enough on my plate right now to keep me from even thinking about being added to your long list of conquests,” she returned primly, ignoring his taunting smirk.  “Thank you for your order.  Trish has it ready for you.”  She pulled the vase forward.
“I didn’t peg you as the type to listen to small town rumors, Ms. Reynolds.”  He nodded at the colorful arrangement.  “Nice, thank you.  I’m glad I caught you in.”  The way he drew out Ms. Reynolds in a slow drawl hinted he knew about the finalization of her divorce.  He and every other citizen in Whitetail.
Reaching into his breast pocket, Chief McGregor pulled out two tickets and slid them across the counter toward her.  Tilting his hat back even further, he offered her a better view of his rugged face bronzed by sun and wind and capped with coal black hair tinted grey around his forehead.  “You haven’t paid these.”
“I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy, I forgot.”  Picking up the parking tickets, she winced at the fines.  Her habit of pulling over and parking wherever it was convenient to expedite her errands resulted in a parking fine more often than not.  That was just one of Pete’s constant complaints that went along with her always being in a hurry.  “I can come in later this afternoon and take care of them.”
Leaning on the counter, he replied in that deep voice that never failed to curl her toes.  “See that you do.  Or, better yet, don’t.  Now that you’re officially free, it’ll give me a good excuse to offer you a choice of consequences.”
The corners of his mouth kicked up in another smile, but she couldn’t miss the hint of a threat behind his words that set her heart to hammering with uncertainty.  That didn’t concern her near as much as the sudden warm gush between her legs.  She didn’t even like the man, for pity’s sake, and she really didn’t care for his forward insinuations.

Length: 53,000 words approx.
Cover Design: Garrett Leigh @ Black Jazz Design

Blurb

Two clashing colleagues stuck together for Christmas—will opposites eventually attract?

Patrick has been single since he broke up with his cheating ex almost a year ago. With Christmas looming, he’s resigned to spending it alone with only memories of happier times for company. When a business trip with a co-worker leaves them stranded in the Lake District due to heavy snow, it seems Patrick will have company for Christmas after all. It’s a shame his companion is Kyle, who’s undeniably attractive, but annoying as hell.

Aware of Patrick’s reluctant admiration, Kyle basks in the attention even though Patrick isn’t the type of man he normally goes for. Averse to relationships after being hurt in the past, Kyle enjoys the occasional hook up, but has given up on seeking anything more meaningful.

Stuck together, their antagonism escalates along with a heavy dose of sexual tension until it finally ignites. What starts as a Christmas fling soon feels like something special; but will their tentative connection melt away as the snow thaws? If they’re going to take a chance on finding happiness together, they’ll have to put their differences aside and learn to trust one another.

Contains: enemies-to-lovers, snowball fights, bickering, spanking, a cute dog, a wise old lady, mistletoe, and a happy ending (of course).

Carra's Review

Stuck with You has several elements that I love to read—enemies to lovers, opposites attract, a bit of kink, snowed in (so forced proximity), and it’s a holiday romance.  Plus I’ve liked or loved everything I’ve read by this author so far, so of course this one was immediately put on my reading list.

Patrick and Kyle were easy enough to like as individual characters.  They are opposites in many ways, but interestingly their behaviors came about from very similar incidents from their pasts—it was just their reactions to those that led each of them to form opposite views.  I think though that the author did too good a job of clashing their personalities since I had a difficult time really feeling a true connection between them on an emotional level.  On a physical level, sure…they definitely had chemistry there, though the spanking seemed to pop up as a random and to me the segues to those portions of their physical scenes felt a bit awkward.

One thing I really enjoyed was the friendship that developed between them and Mrs. Wilcox.  For me, that actually felt more naturally evolved then the relationship between Patrick and Kyle.  The setting was also perfect for the story, I love little village settings in more rural areas plus the place they rented from Mrs. Wilcox was quite cozy.

I think the fact that I had a hard time feeling the connection between Patrick and Kyle for much of the story can be attributed to their clashing personalities which then morphed into them being comfortable and happy with each other once they give in to their attraction, but then reverting back again—which happened more than once.  There was also a point with Patrick making an assumption which leads to conflict between them, and I’m really not fond of the assumption/misunderstanding thing as a source of strife between characters.

Stuck with You was an on-the-fence one for me, landing somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars…if you’re a fan of the tropes featured in this story, you’ll want to check this one out.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

New Release: Review & Giveaway: SANTA DADDY by Keira Andrews

Buy Links:

Exclusive to Amazon and Available to Borrow with Kindle Unlimited

Length: 30,000 words approx.
Cover Design: Dar Albert @ Wicked Smart Design

Blurb

Mall Santas aren’t supposed to be hot.

Hunter Adams is hopelessly adrift after college. He’s still a virgin, can’t find a real job, and has no clue what to do with his life. In desperation, he returns to his humiliating old job as an elf at the Santa's Village in his hometown's dying mall. The Santa on the job is an unexpectedly sexy lumberjack, twice Hunter's size and age. He makes Hunter feel very naughty—too bad he's grumpy and intimidating.

Years after the tragic death of his partner, Nick Spini has his beagle and long, hard days on his Christmas tree farm. That’s plenty. But he can’t refuse a loyal friend’s plea for help and finds himself filling in as Santa at the local mall. Despite Nick's attempt to stay aloof, the beautiful, anxious young man playing elf brings out his long-dormant daddy instincts.

When a surprise blizzard traps them alone in Nick’s isolated forest home, their attraction burns even brighter. Will they surrender to the sizzling connection between them and find the release and comfort they crave?

Santa Daddy is a holiday gay romance from Keira Andrews featuring an age gap, steamy m/m first times, daddy role-playing and light spanking, Christmas romance feels, and of course a happy ending.

Carra's Review

Yep, I think it’s safe to say that once you read this you’ll never look at Santa’s Village at your local mall the same way again…or the place where Santa sits to chat with the kiddies.  Yes, that means that Santa Daddy is a bit naughty.  But along with the naughty (in the form of daddy kink and some spanking) you’ll also find an age gap romance done well, though the shorter length of this story does mean some sacrifices elsewhere like character depth and relationship development.  Not a ton of sacrifice, but enough that I wanted more on that side of things.

Nick playing Santa at the local mall as a favor for a friend presents an interesting juxtaposition since at the beginning of this story he’s really more of a Scrooge; there’s also the play on his name (you know, as in “Jolly Old Saint Nick”).  He’s not a people person at all, mostly thanks to him withdrawing from others after the death of his partner years ago…but Hunter can see there’s still a soft heart underneath Nick’s gruff exterior with the way Nick is with the kids.

Hunter’s kind of adrift after finishing college, but not able to find a paying job with his degree.  playing elf to Nick’s Santa is just a way to help him get by while he tries to figure out what to do with his life.  He needs direction, so isn’t it just perfect that he finds himself attracted to someone who can give it?

Nick and Hunter are scorching hot once they get going physically.  I did feel like that side of their relationship came up pretty fast, particularly considering Nick’s not done more than some kissing and other light stuff (I’d count this as an area that was accelerated and so one of those sacrifices I mentioned).  Once you look past that though, the chemistry is beyond obvious and you can see how Hunter worms his way into Nick’s heart and helps soften him up.

Santa Daddy didn’t feel to me like a Keira Andrews story, it seemed very much like a departure from all of the other stories of hers I’ve read.  I’m not sure if that was due to trying to fit a story that could have easily been flushed out to full novel length into a novella size, but even so this was still quite entertaining.  4 stars for this one from me, and this book is meant strictly for readers 18+ for adult language and explicit sexual content.
