Book blurb

Forgiveness is a hollow prayer you only hear in your dreams.

Patrick Collins has spent years handling cases as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency, even as his secret standing in the preternatural world has changed. He should have confessed to his role as co-leader of the New York City god pack when he and Jonothon de Vere took up the mantle months ago, but he didn’t. Now that split loyalty will cost him at a time when he can least afford it.

Outmaneuvered, framed for murder, and targeted by the Dominion Sect, Patrick has to face a past full of lies to regain his freedom. Revealing the truth means he’ll need to give up the life that has defined him. Everything he’s fought to build with his pack is at stake, and losing them isn’t a price Patrick is willing to pay, but some choices aren’t his to make.

Jono knows they can’t cede any more territory if they want to win the god pack civil war spilling into the streets of New York City. But the souls of werecreatures are free for the taking when demons come to town and angels sing a warning no one can ignore. When Jono’s worst fear comes to life, and he loses the one person he can’t live without, the only option left is to fight.

Facing down the demons of their past and the ones in their present, Patrick and Jono will learn the hard way that some sins never wash away clean.

An Echo in the Sorrow is a 118k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot. It is a direct sequel to On the Wings of War. Reading the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

Excerpt

It’d been four years since the end of the Thirty-Day War. Four years since Ashanti had delivered the gods-given dagger into his hands and willingly sacrificed herself to break Ethan’s spell. The guilt Patrick had carried since then hadn’t faded with her resurrection by way of the MorrĂgan’s staff. Weeks wasn’t enough time to come to terms with the hidden details of Ashanti’s myth and a grief that had been ultimately misplaced.

Maybe he should’ve looked harder at her history, but he’d been a child when Ashanti came into his life, and gods were meddlesome and uncaring in the face of immortality. Ashanti was no different than Persephone and all the others who tore Patrick apart with their demands in that way. But in some ways, she was kinder. She had never treated him as anything but what he was—a weapon to be used until his soul debt was paid in full.

Exclusive Cover Reveal teaser:

Jono bit lightly at his bottom lip, the faint sting making Patrick’s c*ck twitch with interest. “Not going anywhere. Won’t let you go either.”

Patrick couldn’t bring himself to voice the fear that he might, and so kissed Jono again, because that was better than thinking about everything in his life he couldn’t control. Jono let Patrick set the pace of the kiss—quick and hard, needy in a way Patrick only ever was with him.

Jono responded with just as much want, but the touch of his hands was careful and soothing against Patrick’s body. One slid down his thigh and curled around the back of his knees to hike his leg over Jono’s hip, pulling them flush together. Their c*cks slid against each other, and the dry friction drew a groan from Patrick.

“Gonna make a mess of you,” Jono promised.

Patrick hummed agreement, in no way capable of arguing against that. Jono had f*cked him every single day since he’d been released from prison. Patrick couldn’t smell the scent of Jono on his own skin, but he didn’t care. It was a mark that he was pack, and he’d never say no to that or to Jono.

They both had a day packed with meetings, but in the soft morning light of their bedroom, their responsibilities faded away in favor of slow kisses, shared breath, and the warm slide of Jono’s slick fingers jacking them both off together. It was easy and warm and gentle, Jono in no hurry even when Patrick pressed biting kisses against his collarbone.

Remembering the dead will always give them life.

The coveted MorrĂgan’s staff is up for sale on the black market to the highest bidder, and SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins will do whatever it takes to ensure the Dominion Sect doesn’t get their hands on it. Returning the weapon to its rightful owner is another step on the long road toward clearing Patrick’s soul debt, but he won’t walk it alone. Jonothon de Vere won’t let him.

Obeying the gods means Patrick must travel to London. For Jono, it means facing a past he thought he’d left behind forever. His return to England isn’t welcome, and neither is their pack, but Jono and Patrick will face the antagonism together. Politics aside, their priority must be the mission, but the bone-chilling secret they uncover in the London god pack will have far-reaching repercussions no one can ignore.

A race against time takes Patrick and Jono from the streets of London to the bright lights of Paris, where hospitality is thin on the ground, the air is filled with whispered prayers for the missing, and the MorrĂgan’s staff will end up in the one place it should never have gone—a graveyard.

For beneath Paris lie the long-forgotten dead, and when they rise to walk again, the living can only hope to die.

On the Wings of War is a 109k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Vigil in the Mourning. Reading the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

About On the Wings of War by Hailey Turner: This is an exciting sequel that builds on the series plot and makes readers keep wanting more!

Praise for The Soulbound Series:

Hailey Turner never disappoints! The Soulbound series continues in On The Wings of War with Turner's unique and compelling world-building, beloved characters including Wade the ever-snacking cutie pie, and the same kind of page-turning action we've come to expect from a Hailey Turner story. Whenever I read a Soulbound novel, I come out of it feeling smarter and a little bit breathless, like if I looked behind me there might be a tiny bit of magic and dragon smoke wafting in the air. I can't recommend this new Hailey Turner novel enough. Grab it now! - Bestselling author, Lucy Lennox

With every new book in the Soulbound series, I ask myself how Hailey Turner could possibly top this, and in true Patrick style, challenge accepted. Each book in this series is even better than the last, and I’m absolutely in love with these characters. I can’t get enough of Patrick, Jono, Wade, and On the Wings of War is an adrenaline-fueled adventure you don’t want to miss! - Bestselling author, Charlie Cochet

Hailey Turner is a wonderful writer, and nowhere is this better illustrated than in the Soulbound series. The world of Patrick and Jono is so perfectly realised and populated with rich characters drawn from mythology and folklore. I couldn’t put this book down. - Bestselling author, Lily Morton

I have been a fan of the Soulbound series since the very beginning, but somehow it gets better with every new installment, and this one is the best yet. The twists and turns are tighter, the action more explosive, the love between Jono and Patrick deeper, and the bonds with their found family even sweeter, making On the Wings of War one of the most satisfying reads I’ve had in a long time. This book was a roller coaster ride I never wanted to end. - M/M Author, May Archer

“Let’s get our cars and get out of here,” Patrick said.
“Do you even know how to drive on the wrong side of the road?” Wade asked.
“Shut it,” Jono said. “You Yanks are the ones who do everything backward.”
Wade arched an eyebrow in supreme teenaged judgment. “Mr. Green Card over here doesn’t think he’s a Yank.”
“Have you heard his accent?” Patrick asked.
“I’m surrounded by his accent now.”
Jono shoved Wade toward the car hire counter. “Let’s go. We need to get the cars and our luggage, and then head for the hotel.”
“We could’ve stayed at the Dorchester,” Sage said with a deep sigh.
“The government doesn’t pay for comfort,” Patrick reminded her.

Exclusive Reveal Excerpt

“I hate ties,” Patrick said, tugging at the one wrapped around his neck. “I hate suits. Why couldn’t I have done all of these meetings remotely?”

“Because you’ve done enough property damage earlier this year that it’s best to remind people you aren’t the enemy,” SOA Director Setsuna Abuku replied without looking at him as they continued down a corridor in the Pentagon. The military aide escorting them was doing a fine job of pretending not to hear a word they said.

“Chicago was not my fault.”

Setsuna finally deigned to look at him, arching one eyebrow. “The people of Chicago beg to differ.”

“It was months ago. They should be over it by now.”

Setsuna twisted her wrist so her cane smacked him in the shin, never breaking stride. “You know a city doesn’t easily recover from an attack like that.”

Synopsis

The devil you know is never the one you should trust.

Special Agent Patrick Collins is dispatched to Chicago, chasing a lead on the MorrĂgan’s staff for the joint task force. Needing a cover for his presence in the Windy City, Patrick is ordered to investigate a politician running for mayor. In the lead up to election day, not everything is what it seems in a city where playing to win means appeasing the gods first and the electorate second.

But Chicago brings its own set of problems outside the case: a stand-offish local god pack, a missing immortal, and Patrick’s twin sister. Fighting Hannah and the Dominion Sect provides Patrick with a sinister reminder that some blood ties can never be cut.

Left behind in New York City, Jonothon de Vere finds himself targeted by hunters who will go through anyone to kill him—including the packs under his protection. With a bounty on his head, Jono is forced to make a choice that Patrick would never approve of. Doing so risks breaking the trust he’s built with the man he loves, but not acting will give the rival New York City god pack leverage Jono can’t afford to give up.

When Patrick and Jono reunite in Chicago, Patrick must confront the fraying of a relationship he’s come to rely on for his own sanity. But fixing their personal problems will have to wait—because Niflheim is clawing at the shores of Lake Michigan and the dead are hungry.

A Vigil in the Mourning is a 102k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Crown of Iron & Silver. Reading the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

Praise for A Vigil in the Mourning (Soulbound #4)

Patrick and Jono fight for their lives, tangling with Norse gods and monsters, while their relationship is strained by secrets and separation, in another exciting, deliciously angsty ride from Turner's Soulbound series. — Layla Reyne, author of the Fog City Trilogy

VIGIL IN MOURNING takes the Soulbound series a step further into stellar story crafting. A change in scenery for Patrick and a separation from his soulmate raises the stakes, and cliches are deftly avoided and expectations shattered as the central love story becomes fraught with tension. Each plot twist leaves the reader gasping and clinging to the pages, and I was not expecting that ending. Jono and Patrick lead an ensemble cast of characters that includes a snack obsessed dragon, a seer with a sarcasm problem, and gods that can't help but meddle. Patrick's snarktastic attitude leaves me laughing and terrified at the trouble he calls down.  — SJ Himes, bestselling author

Excerpt

The curtains were open, allowing them to see the lit-up Chicago skyline. Patrick dropped his backpack on the other bed before approaching the window and staring out at the view for a few seconds. Then he pulled the curtains shut.

“Unpack and get ready for bed. I need to be at the local field office at 0800 tomorrow, and I want to sleep,” Patrick said.

“But I’m still hungry,” Wade whined.

Patrick sighed and headed for the nightstand that separated the two double beds. He picked up the phone, checked which extension was room service on the little welcome booklet, then looked at Wade. “What do you want?”

Wade smiled smugly, looking pleased with himself now that he was getting his third meal of the night. “A hamburger. Two of them. With extra fries. Oh, and dessert. Cheesecake if they have it.”

Patrick had a feeling he was going to run through his allotted travel stipend for food within the first twenty-four hours of being in Chicago. He wondered if Setsuna would accept kept fledgling dragon fed so he didn’t eat the locals as an excuse for reimbursements.

Carra's Review

I’m running out of ways to express just how much I’m loving this series.  In many ongoing series, you usually find that the first book is the best, then the quality starts to drop off after that.  Not so with Hailey Turner’s Soulbound series…each book just keeps getting better and pulling me even more into this incredible world she’s created.  This time?  It’s time to bring the Norse pantheon into the mix…so yes, that means Odin, Thor, and a whole lot more.

Poor Patrick…he and his growing pack keep winding up smack in the middle of this war amongst the gods, and the stakes keep getting higher.  Ms. Turner has really done her research well, and it’s evident in every story.  I was completely drawn in, and as clichĂ© as it might be to say, I was on the edge of my seat through every page.  I thought the setup of the Norse gods in Chicago was interesting, though I wasn’t expecting the twist to the political machinations.

With the introduction of the new pantheon, there are plenty of new and exciting characters along with many returning favorites.  I was particularly fond of the valkyries :-)  There were not only new characters with Patrick’s new case, but also in the continuing—and escalating—issues between his and Jono’s pack and the other god pack in New York City.  New vampires, new pack additions…and new baddies.

Tension is high on just about every page, not just with the case and the pack issues, but with Patrick and Jono as well.  Even so, their bond and relationship keep becoming deeper and stronger.  The story keeps the excitement level high too, and you can’t help but fall down the rabbit hole while reading.  Who needs sleep anyway, right?

A Vigil in the Mourning absolutely get every star, and continues to keep the entire series as a Top Recommendation for me.  I do strongly recommend you read this series in order as events do build upon each other, and you will want the background to fully understand all the aspects of the story.  The adult language and sexual content do mean that this book is meant for readers 18+.
