Release Day-Review, Excerpt and Giveaway: In Your Heart by Micalea Smeltzer (Willow Creek #3)

Title: In Your Heart
Series: Willow Creek #3
Author: Micalea Smeltzer
 Release Date: June 16, 2015

I thought I had found love.
I thought I had found my forever.
I’d never been more wrong in all my life.

Sadie Westbrook’s seemingly perfect life comes to a screeching halt when she catches her fiancé in bed with another woman. Suddenly, everything she believed in is tested and there’s only one person she can turn to—the guy who has been by her side ever since their best friends fell in love and became inseparable.

Ezra Collins—the bassist for the band Willow Creek—has only ever had one weakness, and her name is Sadie. When he receives a frantic call he rushes to her aid, helping to pick up the pieces of her crumbling life—even if that means letting Sadie live with him.

The close proximity tests the limits of their friendship and as the lines between friends and lovers blur they’ll have to decide if falling in love with your best friend is worth the risk of losing them.

I looked up at the sky and the birds flying above us. “I feel like I don’t know who I am anymore. I spent two years with a guy that stripped me of my identity. I feel like all I have of myself is my store and the rest I’m left questioning. I tried so hard to please him, to make him happy, and in the end I made myself miserable. I was just so desperate for it to work out that I overlooked how toxic our relationship was.  How stupid is that?”

“You’re human,” he replied. “We have this inane desire to belong to something that is greater than we are on our own. That desire is so strong that we can fool ourselves into believing things that aren’t true.”

“So, I’m not crazy?” I cracked a smile.

“Definitely not crazy.”

His smile was comforting and I reminded myself for the hundredth time that everything would be okay.

I rested my head on his shoulder and a moment later his head rested on top of mine.

A smile touched my lips.

I’d missed this—having someone that understood me completely, even when I didn’t know myself.

My Review

I'm a huge fan of the Willow Creek series, and one of my favorite romance tropes is the friends-to-more, so getting both in one story?  Yeah, I was way past excited to get my hands on In Your Heart...and as I thought it would be, it was AMAZING!

I thought Sadie was a fantastic character when I first read about her in Last To Know, and she's just as spunky now as she was then.  Ezra complements her so well, a perfect best friend, there to support Sadie no matter what.  When Sadie runs into trouble after catching her fiancé cheating on her, her first thought is to call Ezra-even after she had distanced herself from him due to said fiancé not wanting her around him.

Since Sadie now needs a place to stay, Ezra-being the wonderful friend he is-offers her a room at his place.  The two of them are so comfortable with each other, and inevitably things start to heat up...though neither thinks the other could ever be serious about the two of them together "for real".  The problem with that?  They both want the "for real", but temporarily settle for the explosive physical chemistry together instead, both thinking that it can't last-and both bracing themselves for the inevitable loss of their only physical relationship.  If they would just both admit what they really feel...

And there's where the conflict and drama steps in.  Plenty of tension, lots of angst, and all the while I'm here banging my head against my e-reader screaming, "Just admit it!  You want each other!".  All in a good way, of course.

We also get to see all our favorite characters from the Willow Creek gang, plus get a bit more in depth with Hayes as well as Sadie's friend Arden (can't wait for their book coming next!). With an established cast of characters that work so well together just like a huge family, it makes this series even more enjoyable since we keep getting more of everyone's story, not just the main characters.

After Ezra, now I just have no idea which of the Willow Creek guys is my favorite...it's impossible to choose.

4.5 stars for In Your Heart...sweet, spicy, angsty and just all-around fantastic.  Micalea Smeltzer keeps blowing me away with this series!
