When a single kiss calls your sexuality into question, there’s only one sure path to a reliable answer: further research.
Patrick
I like to think I know myself outside and in. As a developmental psychologist, I’ve spent years exploring the true foundations of my identity. So, when losing a bet means kissing my best friend, Logan, I already know I’m going to hate every second of it. All the relevant questions regarding my sexuality were asked and answered years ago. The results were conclusive: despite the odd same-sex attraction, I dislike being touched by men.
That is, it seems, until Logan is the man doing the touching. The intense desire aroused by his kiss contradicts all my expectations and I have no idea how to integrate the new information. Thankfully, I know exactly how to uncover the truth about myself—once and for all.
Logan
I’ve put a lot of effort into keeping Patrick out of my fantasies and in the friend-zone. Our recent lip-lock may have unleashed my feelings for him temporarily, but I’ll get them back on their platonic track in no time. Falling for a friend, especially a sexually ambivalent friend, is a one-way ticket to heartache.
But, when the unforeseen impact of our kiss inspires Patrick to conduct an experiment into the extent of his bisexuality, I can’t resist volunteering to help. If any man is going to join Patrick on his journey of self-discovery, it’s sure as hell going to be me.

Excerpt

“You can do your experiment with me.”
My heart pounds, as I wait for him to respond to my offer. The part of me that’s sure he’ll say yes is already weak with relief that he won’t go out looking for anyone else. I don’t want other men touching Patrick. If he’s only ever going to do this experiment with one man, I want that man to be me.
“I thought you wanted to go back to the way things were.” His gaze is wary, and he has yet to move a muscle. “We’re friends, nothing more. That’s what you said.”
“Yes, and it’s still true,” I assure him. “I do want to go back to being friends. But we can do it after the experiment.”
His breath has quickened and, when he speaks again, his voice is rough. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
“It’s the best viable solution,” I tell him, as if coating my possessiveness with a thick layer of pragmatism will make it less obvious. “Don’t forget, it was my kiss that breathed life into your queerness.” My body reacts to the idea of doing it again… and again… and again. However many times he needs to be satisfied. I make a show of licking my lips, enjoying the way he watches with rapt attention. “How much do you want to bet I can get more than a boner out of you?”
With a start, his eyes narrow and he points a finger at me. “No more bets.”
Laughing out loud, I nod. “That’s right. How could I forget?”
He runs a hand over the back of his neck as he looks around the bar, before returning his gaze to me. “I’ll admit, when I decided to do this, my first instinct was to come to you.” He gestures at me with an impatient hand. “You’re the only guy I’ve ever enjoyed kissing and it totally blew my mind. Why do you think I’m doing this in the first place?” he growls, his frustration coming through. “It’s not just because of what happened when we kissed. It’s the fact I can’t stop thinking about it.”
He’s not the only one. I’ve rubbed my c*ck raw in remembrance. The urge to shove him back against the nearby wall washes over me. I want to give him something new to think about. Ignoring the impulse, I swallow hard and speak in a low voice. “When you’re thinking about it, are these analytical thoughts about what it all means? Or are they wanking thoughts?”
He glances away, trying to appear nonchalant. “Both.”
My muscles tighten at the thought of him with his hand wrapped around his throbbing d*ck, fantasising about kissing me while he pants and moans his way to orgasm. I want to know what he looks like when he comes. What he sounds like. How he feels.
“But,” he says, with emphasis, interrupting the lustfest going on in my head, “I decided against it because I know you don’t—” The words cut off and his eyes close briefly. “I don’t want us to stop being friends.”
“I don’t want that either but, Patrick, you’re playing with fire here and assuming no one will steal the matches. I’m the only one I trust to do this right.”
He’s still reluctant. I can feel the force of his doubts. But he hasn’t said no.
“Patrick, listen to me.” I slide a hand around the back of his neck, urging him to meet my gaze. “You need someone you can trust to stop when you say stop, no matter what’s happening when you say it. Someone who won’t get pissed at you and accuse you of being a tease when you leave them with blue balls.” Releasing him, I grin. “Besides, you tried looking for someone else to kiss. It didn’t work. You chose me and now you’re stuck with me for the duration.”
He huffs out an indignant sound. “I could find someone else to kiss,” he blusters, “if I looked really hard… for about ten years.”
I laugh out loud, knowing I almost have him convinced. “Yeah, but even if you did, it wouldn’t matter.”
“Why is that?” He leans closer, as if he’s looking forward to my response.
In that instant, I realise how badly I want this—him. I want to tug on every thread of his sexuality, freeing each strand for thorough inspection. I want to tie him in knots, before making him unravel for me. And I want him to know, every second along the way, I’m the one who is doing this to him. That I’m the only man to ever make him feel this way.
Licking my lips, I take a step closer and bring my face in next to his. “Because even if you did hit your limit with someone else, you’d always wonder how much further I could have taken you.” I lower my head, so he can feel my breath against his neck as I go in for the kill. “Patrick, my friend, I’m going to drag your arse so far down my end of the spectrum, you’ll have to claw your way straight.”

Carra's Review

I’m always game for a friends to lovers story, and the angle of Patrick approaching things as an experiment to test his sexuality definitely caught my attention.  I could see how his thought processes brought him to think this “experiment” would help him find out more about himself.  The monkey wrench in the works though is his too-analytical approach and somewhat flawed reasoning for his thinking based on other events in his family life.

You can see where things are going for both Patrick and Logan from a mile away—but that doesn’t mean their journey isn’t entertaining.  These two have plenty of chemistry going on, not just physically, but as friends too.  The only thing is, these types of arrangements always bust down that “friend” barrier and this story is no different.  Good thing they both are all in.

As long as Patrick’s analytical side doesn’t rear it’s head too high…

Even though you can easily guess how things will progress, Patrick and Logan’s story is still absolutely worth reading as the two of them are wonderful together.  There were points at which the story did feel drawn out to me, I’m not sure if it just dragged on a bit too long, or if it was because the base story was a familiar one.  Regardless, this was still a 4-star read for me, and one I recommend to contemporary M/M romance fans.  The adult language and sexual content do mean this book is meant for readers 18+.

Their bodies pressed together, faces a breath apart. Cam noticed the faint flicker of green around Jude’s pupils, and tiny droplets of water from his shower caught in his stubble along his jaw. Cam brushed the fringe off Jude’s forehead and watched, transfixed, as Jude wetted his lips.

Cam loved the way Jude responded; he reveled in Jude's eyes fluttering shut as Cam’s fingertips grazed down his neck.

“God,” Jude moaned with a sigh, “I’ve been thinking about this all day.”

Cam grabbed a handful of sheet in a tight fist in an effort to ground himself in the dizzying whirlpool he was sinking in. He was floating with desire, and shaky inside from the intensity of it. Cam’s mind warred with wanting it to stop and never letting go.

“Have you?” he murmured against the warmth of Jude’s skin.

Cam leaned down, his lips brushing against Jude’s collarbone. His heart pounded inside of his chest, and he was nervous, but he was excited. Cam hadn’t felt this way about being with someone since high school.

He swallowed hard and placed a small kiss on Jude’s collarbone.

Jude combed his fingers through the hair at the base of Cam's neck, gripping a handful and jerking Cam's head up. Cam expelled a sharp moan, and his heart revved into overdrive when Jude’s face grew so close he turned into a blurry mess within Cam’s swimming vision.

“You,” Jude said in a low, commanding voice, “are wearing far too much clothing.”

Cam licked his lips and nodded. “Okay,” he said, leaning back to give himself room. “Right, okay.”

He lifted an arm, and Jude helped pull his shirt off. Jude tossed it to the other side of the room without breaking eye contact with Cam, and lifted a single eyebrow.

“You need to be more naked for what I want to see you do.”

Cam bit down the whine itching in the back of his throat. The roughness of Jude’s voice was doing a million things to Cam’s body, including surging warmth in his chest. There was an old familiarity to that, and a warning bell went off inside of his head.

He swallowed hard and changed his focus.

“Oh yeah?” he teased, hoping his voice didn’t give away his nerves. Cam glided a hand down the front of his chest towards the button of his jeans, and a thrill jolted through him as Jude positioned himself on his elbows. Jude watched with such naked appreciation, Cam had to take several breaths before he could speak again.  “And...what is it you want to see?”

Carra's Review

This is the author’s debut full-length novel, and it’s a pretty solid story all around.  The premise indicated in the synopsis was an immediate attention-grabber, so I was eager to get started reading this book.
I did like both main characters, though Jude definitely was my favorite of the two.  He just felt more genuine to me, whereas Cam’s “we’re just friends getting off together” outlook that he kept trying to convince himself of did irritate me just a bit.
One thing the two absolutely had in spades was their physical chemistry, which was blatantly in evidence from their very first intimate scene together.  The story does focus heavily on their physical connection, with the emotional side being more of a “tell not show” deal.  And while every intimate scene is definitely hot and steamy, they did reach a point where what they were doing leveled off and didn’t advance any further—even though every scene as you get deeper into the story has you expecting them to venture into more explicit territory (read as: penetrative sex) at any moment.  I only mention that as I’m well aware there are readers who expect this in their romance books as a matter of course; so if you do, you may be a tad disappointed in that aspect…but this is the first book in a series so let’s see where it goes from here before getting judgy, m’kay?
The requisite conflict is one we’ve all seen before, and for me personally the minor misunderstanding/aren’t we just friends bit is one that I’m not fond of in my romances.  But in the end, I was still happy with how things turned out and I did enjoy the overall story.  Give Me A Hand was a 3.5-star read for me, and will be enjoyed by most new adult M/M romance fans.  This book is for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Re-Release-Review & Excerpt: DIRTY LAUNDRY by Heidi Cullinan (Tucker Springs #3)

Blurb

Sometimes you have to get dirty to come clean.
When muscle-bound Denver Rogers effortlessly dispatches the frat boys harassing grad student Adam Ellery at the Tucker Springs laundromat, Adam’s thank-you turns into impromptu sex over the laundry table. The problem comes when they exchange numbers. What if Adam wants to meet again and discovers Denver is a high school dropout with a learning disability who works as a bouncer at a local gay bar? Or what if Denver calls Adam only to learn while he might be brilliant in the lab, outside of it he has crippling social anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder?
Either way, neither of them can shake the memory of their laundromat encounter. Despite their fears of what the other might think, they can only remember how good the other one feels. The more they get together, the kinkier things become. They’re both a little bent, but in just the right ways.
Maybe the secret to staying together isn’t to keep things clean and proper. Maybe it’s best to keep their laundry just a little bit dirty.

Release Date: Reissuing March 29, 2019 by Dreamspinner Press. Title is revised with some significance and expanded from original release.

Thanks so much for having me today! I’m here to celebrate the re-release of Dirty Laundry at Dreamspinner Press and share an exclusive excerpt of the new edition.

Denver really did have Adam fold his underwear, an endless supply of plain old tighty-whities. What had the back of his teeth aching was while Adam folded, Denver’s hands skimmed beneath the unbuttoned waistband of his briefs, mapping the surface of his ass and hips.

Adam still couldn’t get over that they were making out in the laundromat. He’d naively assumed they’d finish up their laundry and move on to one of their respective apartments to have sex. That thought in itself had sent him into a quiet panic spiral, but before he could begin psyching himself up for that battle, Denver had undone his zipper, complimented his red-and-white-striped underwear, and stuck his hands down it. Then he’d told him to start folding.

So Adam had. Now here they were.

It wasn’t that being fondled was bad, but it was unnerving to have it done in public. While it was more than a little hot, it also seemed dangerous. What surprised him was that this particular kind of danger made him feel sexy. He’d never had someone hold his ass like this before. He’d never folded someone’s underwear while they held his ass. So wicked, especially with all the windows. What if someone saw? What would they think of him?

Why was that fear so… delicious, almost as yummy as Denver’s roving hands?

The only fly in the ointment was that even turned on, Adam was nervous. What if someone came in? What if they called the police? What if he was arrested and he ended up playing fold-the-underwear with someone who wasn’t Denver? What if his advisor found out? Would public sex do something to his teaching assistantship? Would he be able to get a job? Would getting felt up in a laundromat inadvertently lead to him living on the streets, starving and exposed, selling his body for sex, which meant he would contract a disease and die?

“Turn your head off,” Denver drawled. He sounded amused. Patient. Kind. “Unless I’m doing something you don’t like?”

God, no. “I just—I don’t want to get caught.”

The hand on Adam’s hip tightened. “You’re already caught.”

Was he ever. “I mean, I don’t want to be arrested.”

“Cops don’t usually patrol laundromats.” Denver’s fingers dipped into Adam’s crack as his other hand tugged the briefs farther down. “I got you. Just do as you’re told and stay relaxed. I’ll make sure you have a good time.” He pressed against Adam’s opening. “And that you don’t get arrested.”

Denver’s words didn’t do half as much for Adam as that finger did, especially once it disappeared and came back cold and slippery with lube. Adam wondered briefly where the hell that had come from, and then he moaned and fell forward onto the folded laundry as Denver pushed inside.

Relax. Do as you’re told. The words echoed inside Adam, loosening the chains of his mind even as they bound his body. Adam let out a breath and spread his legs wider on a sigh.

“That’s right.” Denver massaged Adam’s left ass check with one hand, pulling it aside as he f*cked deeper with his other. “Don’t worry about who’s watching. I’m watching, and that’s all you should care about. I’m caring about everything else for you. But I sure am watching you, baby. I’m watching my finger go into your ass, watching you. Are you going to open wider for me?”

Moaning, Adam nodded and tried to spread his legs, but the briefs kept him trapped.

“There’s a good boy. Sweet and eager. You want me to open you more? That what you want?”

Whimpering, Adam lifted his ass higher. “Please.

Laughing low, Denver pushed a second finger in alongside the first, patting Adam’s ass in approval as he flexed and took the digit eagerly. “Look at you. You really did want it.”

“I really want it.” Adam felt feverish, wiggling against Denver’s fingers. It had been so long since he’d been f*cked, and it had never been like this. Nothing had ever been like this.

“Honey, I’m gonna give it to you, don’t worry.” He fingered Adam gently, still kneading his cheek with his other hand. When Adam shuddered, Denver ran his thumb along the stretched pucker of Adam’s ass. “This is just teasing you, isn’t it? Want me to stuff you a little more? You gonna take my c*ck next, sweet thing? You gonna moan all over my clothes while I f*ck you? Right here on the table where everyone can see?”

Adam whimpered and clutched at the folded laundry, straining for the last remnants of self-control. “I’m messing up your things,” he rasped, then groaned and arched his back as Denver twisted his fingers.

“Yep. You’re going to make my laundry dirty, baby. You’re going to come all over it.”

Shutting his eyes, Adam surrendered. When Denver tugged Adam’s pants to his ankles and shoved more clothes underneath Adam’s ass to lift it higher, Adam didn’t have a single care about who might see him behaving this way, he only made sure Denver could arrange him the way he wanted. When Denver withdrew his fingers to pull Adam open wide, Adam relaxed the muscle so Denver could gaze into him as he liked.

He was Denver’s to do with what he wanted right now. He was nothing else.

“You’re a good, obedient boy.” Denver held Adam open a few seconds longer, then thrust his thumb inside, turning it as he pumped it in and out. “This is a fine ass you have here too. Real nice. You mind if I give it a few slaps?”

I’m going to get spanked in the laundromat. Adam’s voice barely worked, and his asshole flexed in eagerness. “P-please do as you like.”

Carra's Review

This was one deliciously naughty story while at the same time addressing serious issues the characters have in a sensitive manner.  It’s almost like the explicit, scorching BDSM-laced scenes were balancing out the stressed, tension-laden aspects found in Adam’s OCD and anxiety and Denver’s learning disability.  Their physical relationship allows them both to let go and just concentrate on their pleasure.

My own low-level OCD tendencies made it easy for me to understand and empathize with Adam (though I’m beyond thankful that I’m nowhere near his extreme), and I totally get how he would start off worrying about something and it would snowball in his head to almost unrealistic paranoia.  Denver complements him quite well, helping to balance out Adam’s nature with his unconditional acceptance, support, and understanding.

Oh, and if you’re here for the sexy times and love dirty talk…you’ve definitely come to the right place because Denver rings that bell loud and clear.

There are some good secondary characters, primarily Adam’s ex, Brad, who I’m certain most readers are going to love to hate, and Louisa who turns out to be an insightful sounding board for Adam.

I did not read this story when it first came out years ago, but I’m definitely glad I took the time for this updated re-release.  Dirty Laundry was a 4.5-star read for me, and is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and explicit sexual content.
