Tour-Book Review: SECRET THINGS by Nazarea Andrews (Hollywood Secrets #1)

SECRET THINGS by Nazarea Andrews is now live!

An adult, contemporary romance (Hollywood Secrets, #1)

BLURB
Camden is on top of the world.
He’s dating his best friend and co-star. He has a top rated TV show that just got renewed for a seventh season. It’s what he’s always wanted.
And he’s f*cking miserable.
Dimitri is living the life he always wanted. He and Victor, his high school boyfriend, are social media darlings. His part just got renewed on his hit TV show, and the charity foundation he co-founded is taking off. It’s everything he ever wanted.
And he’s f*cking miserable.
The only time either seem happy is when they’re together. And both of them are ignoring the attraction between them. There’s too much at risk. The show, their significant others, a friendship that is more important than a quick screw.
Oh, and Camden is straight.
Right?
But attraction isn’t always easy to ignore, and a lot can happen that isn’t meant to. When one of Dimitri’s fans gets involved, both men will have to decide how much and who they want.

Carra's Review

There are certain books that I read where I say the characters are the ones who made the book for me.  Secret Things is the perfect example of this-the main characters of Dimitri, Camden and Cari’s lives are so intertwined, they seem like their own little family.  They are strong together-not just Camden and Cari or Dimitri and Cari or Camden and Dimitri-but all three of them together.  The face that they present to the public and the ones they wear in private are similar, with one exception that becomes more and more clear as the story goes on—the relationships they are all in at the start?  Yeah, those are the exception.

The story is emotional and not an easy ride at first as Camden and Dimitri are figuring things out.  One thing is blatantly obvious though—the two of them together are a pairing that is distinctly natural and utterly perfect.  The hard part is not the two of them together, it’s not Cari or Victor…it’s everyone else.  But putting on a face for everyone else can be trying and put a strain on everything, so the story starts heading toward an eventual outing…until someone from Dimitri’s past comes into play and shoots the drama level up the charts.

I cannot stress enough how much I love Camden and Dimitri together.  Everything between them just works, and the chemistry?  Oh my…you might want to keep the fire department on standby.  I couldn't get enough of them together, and I’m not just talking about physically.  Another thing I really liked about this book is that it has a character who is ace (asexual).  While this is only just touched on a small bit, it’s good to see a major character on that part of the spectrum, and it will be interesting to see how that might be explored in the series.

While the characters are meant to be older than new adult (or at least it seemed that way based on the timelines in the story), the way they are written feels more like they are much younger, maybe early to mid-twenties.  There are some points in the story where the writing is not as smooth as I would have liked, with lots of shorter, quick sentences and thoughts-for me this contributed to my feeling of the characters seeming to be younger than I think they were meant to be.  The drama introduced by the character from Dimitri’s past seemed a bit too easily resolved, and that character felt a bit immature to have been near Dimitri’s age as she is supposed to be.

The feel of the characters’ ages aside, the rest of the story was addicting and I was thoroughly invested in Camden and Dimitri-both as individuals and as a couple.  I see myself re-reading this again and again, solely because I don’t want to let the two of them go.

4 bright and shining stars for Secret Things, and I recommend this story to M/M contemporary romance fans…and truly to any romance fans…particularly if you like stories surrounding Hollywood celebrities.  The story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and M/M sexual content.
