The Runaway Gypsy Boy (Irish Runaways #1)

Blurb

Desperate to escape the clutches of an increasingly sadistic and abusive Dom, Kevin and Jack seize their opportunity to escape and runaway to Galway. They shave their heads and do their best to avoid being detected while searching for a new Dom who is prepared to take them on as package deal. Their running leads them to Cleary's Pub - a bar full of leather-clad Doms and subs, owned and run by Master Cleary...

Master Cameron Cleary was in need of a new sub - it had been far too long since he'd had a boy in his life. Each night as he ran his pub filled with leather-clad Doms, accompanied by their Subs, he became more aware of how solitary his life had become. That is, until two young cousins turned up one night looking for work, a place to stay, and more intriguingly a Dom who would take them both. Something about their recently shaved heads and skittish demeanor stirred his interest and protective nature. But did he want two subs, and was he prepared to deal with whatever trouble these boys were hiding?

Review

Kevin and Jack are both very immature.  It seems like Kevin likes to boss Jack around when it’s the two of them, and that he has the attitude of wanting to be the “better sub” than Jack.  Once they get involved with Master Cleary, that’s something he needs to change or their relationship will never work.  Jack comes across as quite young and a bit naive, I felt very protective of him.  He seems to have low self-esteem and self-worth, never seeming to feel like he’s good enough.  Master Cleary right away feels protective of Kevin and Jack, and starts trying to give them the structure and safety they both need and crave.

For me, the story didn’t flow smoothly, and once Blaine is introduced in the story lost some of its focus.  I didn’t feel a connection between the characters-even between Kevin and Jack who say they love each other and have been together since they were young boys, I just didn’t feel it.  Once Master Cleary comes into the picture with them, it just doesn’t feel like enough time for a true bond to form between the three of them.  I also wasn’t a fan of how Master Cleary handled the whole situation with Blaine given what he already knows about Blaine from their past.

There’s an injection of drama thanks to Kevin and Jack’s previous Dom, who is definitely one character I have no problem using the word “hate” for.

The BDSM aspect…I’m just going to say that I wasn’t a fan of how the lifestyle was portrayed in this story.

This story is meant for readers 18+ only due to adult language, M/M and M/M/M explicit sexual content, as well as some scenes involving physical and sexual abuse.
