Title: Right Kind of Mistake
Author: Rebecca Thomas
Publisher: Leap Books, Shine Imprint
Release Date: November 9, 2015
Short Summary: Heartbroken and afraid of commitment, Haylie, is only looking for a few hours of pure bliss. But hockey hero Cam wants more than a hook-up. His goal? Ice-melting romance.
Long Summary: Haylie Keene wants to put the past behind her and move on after her jock boyfriend cheats on her. Her friends convince her that a hook-up (or maybe a little revenge sex) is the best place to start. Except she’s steering clear of hockey players, as in, never ever again.
Alaska State all-star defenseman Cam Erickson is a calculated risk taker. He weighs the pros and cons and knows Haylie is a bad investment on so many levels, but something about her gets under his skin. And once he makes up his mind, he pulls out all the stops to make her his.
Haylie soon realizes that Cam’s quiet charm and unfaltering confidence is like a magnet she doesn’t want to refuse. Their chemistry is undeniable and maybe the rules she set up for herself are worth reconsidering.
My Review
I'm always game for a story that involves a hockey player...though here in Right Kind of Mistake, only one aspect of that plays into the story. This is a pretty quick read and the clear star of the story is Cam.
To me, Haylie actually came across as kind of bitchy and narrow-minded, stereotyping Cam unfairly based on the sport he plays. I get that she was burned before, but I felt that she really was being unjust when it came to Cam.
Now Cam, everything we see and hear about him is positive and enough to make you swoon. He is thoughtful and really takes Haylie's feelings into account even when she is pushing just for a one-night stand.
The story ends quite suddenly; I didn't like the abrupt stop that really left everything open-ended, but am hoping that the next book will tie everything up. With Haylie's attitude and the way things are left at such loose ends, I give this 3.5 stars. I'm hoping that the next book pulls things together and gives us a more satisfying conclusion, especially since Cam really deserves so much more than Haylie was giving him.
