My Review

How My Heart Breaks is the first book that I've read by this author.  While it is part of the Try Again series, it can be read as a standalone, though you may get additional enjoyment of the story if you read the other books in the series first.

The story starts off on a dramatic note, and right from the very beginning I found Jake to be a fantastic male lead.  Not just because he's a hot, sexy and strong character, but also because he's a fantastic father to his little girl Hallie (and I'm not one who is normally moved by the parent thing in a romance story).  He is loving, caring and protective...as well as loyal--even when he really would rather not be (sorry, you'll have to read the story to find out why on that one, can't spoil that for you!).

Lana has a broken past from losing almost all of her family except her brother, in addition to a horrible ex-husband, leaving her wary of loving others.  After her house fire, she and Jake are thrown together for a short time, sparking a connection that they both feel-though acting on it other than that night of the fire is a bit more than they are ready for.  Or is it?

Lana and Jake fit together like two peas in a pod, and once you add Jake's daughter into the equation, they seem like they could be the perfect family.  But just when everything seems so comfortable, we get a double injection of drama that throws everything into disarray.

A great story that kept me engaged, How My Heart Breaks was a 4-star read for me, and I'd recommend it to contemporary romance fans...especially those who love a fantastic single father as the male lead (go ahead, swoon now).
