Teaser Excerpt

Being confronted with three men scowling at him was disconcerting, especially the two huge guys blocking the doorway. Then another ten men stared at him from a table piled high with food.

Eric’s stomach growled at the delicious aroma. Was that meatloaf? He tried to sniff without being obvious. His mouth watered. It was meatloaf, one of Eric’s all-time favorite meals.

But he was here to do a job, not fill his belly. He was cold and hungry. It had been a long ride here. And now his client, who was another man mountain, had no idea he was coming. Eric just prayed they didn’t throw him out. He wasn’t sure he could face that road so soon. He swore he’d driven up with his eyes shut.

The biggest one squinted at him. “Isn’t he that guy you stuck your…ow!”

The other bear had just elbowed him in the ribs. “What did you do that for?”

“Just bring him over here,” a young guy, maybe Eric’s age, said. “He looks frozen. Join us for lunch, Eric. There’s a space next to Brad.”

Eric turned to Brad, who still stared at him, looking just as confused as he was. “Is that okay?” he asked hesitantly.

Brad seemed to shake himself. “Sure. Come meet my family.”

Eric was sure he mumbled “…again,” but he must have misheard.

This was how Eric found himself between Brad and a much smaller blond-haired boy…man, Eric corrected himself hastily.

“Eric, it’s good to see you again,” the small man said.

Eric frowned. “Do I know you?”

There was a silence around the table and Eric caught them looking at each other.

“You don’t remember me…us?” Brad asked.

Eric bit his lip. “I have amnesia. I was in a car accident last year. I don’t remember anything before then.”

They all looked horrified. Eric was used to that expression. What he wasn’t used to was people who said they knew him.

“The food is getting cold,” one of the big men grumbled. He wasn’t big, he was massive, and all muscle. No wonder he liked his food.

“Quick introductions,” the little guy said, “then you can eat. I’m Vinny. This is Damien. He’s mine.” He pointed to one of the men with a graying beard who had greeted him at the door. “And so is Rexy.”

Eric blinked. The little man had two boyfriends?

“Rexy’s my dog,” Vinny said, pointing to a small black mutt of indeterminate breed, sacked out in front of the stove.

“Oh.” Eric nodded to show Vinny he understood.

What had he just walked into?

“Down, boy,” the man said, with a fond smile. “He’s Brad’s.”

Eric’s jaw dropped and then he heard a choking sound on the other side of him. He turned to see Brad staring across him.

“What the hell, Damien?” Brad’s voice cracked.

“I’m sorry, Eric,” the man who’d invited him to sit said. “You’ll get used to us. It’s always like this. I’m Lyle. This is my…boyfriend. This is Gruff.”

He pointed to a huge man on one side of him. Gruff looked younger than Brad or Vinny’s guy. He also looked unhappy at something Lyle had said.

“Not again.”

Eric turned to see who had spoken. Massive guy smiled at him but there was a cautious edge Eric didn’t understand.

“Eric, I’m PJ. This is my boy, Jack.”

Jack waved at him. He looked to be in his mid-twenties. His smile was friendly enough.

“Look, kid, we’re all gay,” PJ said. “Do you have a problem with that?”

“No,” Eric squeaked.

“Good. We’re all brothers. The big dudes are my brothers by blood. The little dudes are my brothers by love. No, Damien, you can’t start sniffling now.” PJ turned to fix his gaze on Eric. “And we’re all in Daddy/boy relationships. Do you have a problem with that, too?”

Carra's Review

Alpha Chef is the second book of the J.T’s Bar series, and I found myself liking this story more than the first one. For me, the drama was more gripping and I was more invested in Greg and Colm’s relationship in this story. I’m not sure though that the title is the right fit for the story, as the main plot of the story doesn’t really lend itself toward a title fixed on one particular aspect of Greg’s life, especially since that aspect is only mentioned a couple of times mostly in passing. I actually found Colm to be the more alpha of the two. Regardless of that fact, I found the story itself enjoyable though like with the first book of the series, the main climax of the suspense portion of the story seemed to come earlier than expected so that the last third of the book was mostly tying up loose ends and solidifying the relationship.

I mentioned that I thought Colm was the more alpha character, I found him to have the strong, protective personality that I associate with alpha males—particularly in his role as a US Marshal. Greg is also a strong character, but his is more of an inner strength that keeps him going and persevering even after all that he’s been through. I wish we could have seen some of the relationship development between the two men before the events of this book started to see where those seeds of their developing emotions were planted, just to get more insight into how their attraction began.

I really liked the portions of the story dealing with Greg and his brother Cole (Mitch) reconnecting. This added some good depth to the story and we get to see Cole doing his alpha protective thing again, this time with his brother now that he has him back. I was also happy to see the other returning characters from the first book, in particular Si and Howie—my interest is piqued with them and the potential conflict that may be arising between them (Howie is such a sweet guy!).

Alpha Chef skims close enough to 4 stars for me to round it there as my final rating, and I think those readers who read Alpha Barman will like Alpha Chef even more. This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content (mmm…Greg and Colm sure do have some hot chemistry going on!).

Carra's Review

From steamy to suspenseful to hot and sexy back to excitement, then repeating again, Goodnight My Angel was one of those stories that doesn't want to let go of the reader for even a second. This story kept me guessing the whole time I was reading, and while I had an inkling a little further than halfway through of who the bad guy was, there was still plenty of doubt-and even now after finishing the book I'm not sure if that person is the only answer to the mystery.

Yes, that means we've got a cliffhanger folks...and every moment until it hit at the end I was on the edge of my seat, heart all a-flutter with the thrills and action.

I absolutely loved Josh in Morning My Angel, and now after Goodnight My Angel, that's been upped to pure adoration. He's smart, sexy, forceful when necessary, naughty when he can get away with it (and even when he can't), and just overall a really powerful character. He and Cal together work brilliantly, and they make a strong team...not to mention a sizzling pair in the bedroom...or living room...or office...

The constant suspense and tension, the not knowing who was going to be targeted next, having characters I'd grown fond of in constant danger--this all made for a very exciting read, and by the end there were questions that were answered, but a whole new can of worms was opened as well. This of course leaves everything wide open for another story, because like I said-cliffhanger. But I'm not even made about not seeing that coming, because I am fully invested in this series and am solidly hooked for whatever the author has in mind next.

4.5 thrill-laden stars for Goodnight My Angel, and I highly recommend this story to M/M romantic suspense fans. I strongly advise that you read Morning My Angel first before starting this story, otherwise you will have a hard time understanding several things in this book. Don't worry--you'll like that one too, and if you're like me you're going to be impatient for book 3. This story is for readers 18+ for adult language and M/M sexual content.
