Michael Bourgeon is a talented artist, young and gorgeous, a stinking rich heir from a well-connected family. He’s the infamous libertine behind the most extravagant parties in Manhattan, and his exploits often lead to juicy tabloid stories. Enjoying his wealth and freedom to the fullest, Michael has the world at his feet.

Until someone tries to kill him. Repeatedly. After a security breach among his own staff, he has run out of options where to hide while the FBI hunts the killer.

A high-profile private security expert Vincent Nowak is supposed to provide the miracle solution. And while Michael struggles with nightmares and anxiety due to the looming threat, Vincent becomes not only the ultimately reliable protector, but a wonderful distraction, too…

A small cabin in the woods, a cocky brat with a soft heart, his gruff, controlling bodyguard, and weeks of tension in a confined space.

A standalone novella based on the original short story Yes, Daddy. HAE, no cliffhangers.

Excerpt

“The rules, Michael.”

“I was literally ten steps away from the cabin, Vincent.” I wanted to defend myself more, but my voice sounded shaky and weak. I snapped my mouth shut.

His hand on my neck tightened, and he pushed me through the door. I stumbled but regained my balance. Vincent shut the door behind us and turned to me.

“Did you do it to rile me up, Mikey?” His expression stayed suspiciously neutral.

“No,” I answered honestly. “I was just bored. You were in your room doing whatever, and I didn’t want to disturb you.”

“My work here is for nothing if you don’t follow the rules.”

I knew it wasn’t his intention, but the command in his voice did things to me. I licked my lips. Don’t think about the fear. You’re safe. Look at him. His shoulders are rising with angry breaths, his eyes flashing with fury. He’s gorgeous…

“F*cking hell, Mikey. I mean it!”

“I’m sorry.” I was getting hard. He was magnificent when he was pissed at me.

“Stop looking at me like that. This is serious.”

“I know.” But I couldn’t help it. My nipples were tingling, and I had to swallow. “Will you punish me?”

“No, you f*cking incubus. I’m not rewarding you for endangering yourself on a whim, dammit. You will follow the rules, Michael. How is it possible that if I tell you to keep your hands off your d*ck, you obey me, but if I ask you to be reasonable so I can keep you alive, you don’t care?”

He was frustrated with me. Sh*t. It seemed like I wasn’t getting any tonight. My nerves quivered again, my anxiety looming close. Double sh*t.

“My people report to me every day about everything and anything that happens in the area,” Vincent said. “It takes quite a lot of effort, but it means I can let you out to breathe sometimes. If you do this again, I’ll f*cking lock you in the panic room for the rest of the week, I swear.”

“I’m really sorry, Vincent. I won’t do it again.”

He shook his head and took a deep breath, bracing his hands on his hips.

“You are the client from hell, you know that?” His words were hard, but his voice sounded gentle.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to babysit myself either. “I can double your pay.”

He chuckled at that. “No money can compensate for what you’re doing to me, Mikey.”

I drew in a breath. I was lousy at expressing emotion. Seriously, complete sh*t at that part. I mean, in sex, I could tell anything and everything, but actual feelings? This man worked tirelessly to keep my stupid head intact, and I only made it more difficult for him from the start because I was a sex-crazed, twisted nervous wreck. I had no words to explain to him how grateful and how sorry I was.

So I stripped naked in the middle of the room and knelt on the floor while Vincent stared, mouth parted, eyes burning. I bent my head in complete submission, arms hanging limply by my sides, and spoke quietly.

“I’m so sorry, Daddy. I promise I won’t break the rules again. Please, forgive me.”

I closed my eyes and waited.

Carra's Review

I’ve been hooked on this author’s books ever since Vanilla Clouds, and once again he’s delivered a story with a solid plot, intriguing characters, and sizzling erotic scenes.  Cabin Fever is unapologetically naughty and like a never-ending sex-fest—and that’s not a bad thing…no, not at all.  You may think that a lot of sex in a book is just gratuitous, but one thing I’ve learned about this author—the sex is there for a reason, and it’s usually as a device for the characters’ journey to becoming an intensely connected couple.

That intensity is ramped up here both by the fact that there is someone out there who wants Michael dead, and the isolated setting in which he and Vincent are holed up waiting for law enforcement to find that bad guy.  Add these external factors to Michael’s preference for pain and the blatant teasing of Vincent which he undertakes while they are hidden away and you’ll find that tension being relieved in all sorts of indecent ways.

Vincent does find himself conflicted since he’s trying to remain professional in his bodyguard role, but his resistance to giving in to the Daddy role in which Michael has cast him can only last so long.  But even once he starts taking charge on the intimate side, he’s still acutely aware of the protector role he has to play.

Cabin Fever was a 4-star read for me, and somewhere along the way I lost count of all the orgasms (this is after all an erotic romance by Roe Horvat…sooner or later you’re going to lose count).  Fans of M/M erotic romance will want to exercise that one-click finger on this one…just be sure you’re 18+ because the adult language and erotic sexual content are plentiful in this one!

Beautiful Beast is a light tale of lust and love, about a beautiful dancer who keeps a wild beast locked inside him, and the man who sets it free.

Blurb

Kevin used to hold himself back, trying to keep his less conventional desires to himself. With Joakim, he feels free. It’s almost as if Joakim can read Kevin’s subconscious, touching the right places at exactly the right time, and whispering the most shameless things…filthy, and oh so satisfying.

Falling for Kevin is easy. Joakim can feel it happening and he’s powerless to do anything about it. With every touch, his desire grows. Men have chased him for his money and status before, but Kevin doesn’t seem to care about any of that. Maybe this time, Joakim should let himself fall, and hope the landing will be soft.

Excerpt

Joakim recognized him immediately. Kevin’s heart-shaped, plump lips stretched in a careful smile; he was stunning. There weren’t good enough words to describe the man’s angelic face. Light blue eyes, big, round and sparkling, with long lashes. His nose was small and perfectly straight, cheekbones high and sharply cut, jawline soft and boyish, even though the thin lines on his forehead said he must be closer to thirty than twenty. Kevin had an exquisite face and an exquisite smile.

He moved like the dancer he was, drifting gracefully among the people in the crowded restaurant until he stood close to the tall table Joakim waited by. He blinked nervously, and those full lips parted. Joakim wanted to suck on them, see if they turned a darker shade of red… And he was just sitting there, gaping like a fool. Realizing his mistake, he jumped up from his seat to welcome his date properly. The chair scraped on the floor, making an awful sound over the sultry music in the restaurant. Joakim winced.

“Sorry,” he said. “Hi. Hello. Lovely to finally meet you properly.”

“Hi,” Kevin said and smiled a shy smile, which would have buckled Joakim’s knees if he hadn’t been leaning on the table with one hand.

“Hi,” he repeated dumbly. Then he had to laugh. “Sorry, I’m just…” He gestured helplessly at Kevin and shook his head. He’d spent the past few days telling himself it was nothing. Just a lark. But now the beautiful creature that had been following him in his dreams was here in the flesh, and Joakim floundered like he never had before. Could he at least stay coherent, for f*ck’s sakes?

“What?” Kevin said, perplexed. He looked down, perusing his own body, probably looking for stains or an open fly.

“No! God, no. You look great. I’m just a bit stunned, that’s all. I’ll put myself back together in a minute, I promise.”

Kevin only looked more bewildered.

“Sit down,” Joakim said decisively. “Sit, and we’ll have a drink. I definitely need it.”

Kevin chuckled, still puzzled, and sat opposite Joakim at the tall round table. The chairs were as high as bar stools but more comfortable with plush armrests. Joakim couldn’t help but follow the lines of Kevin’s body with his gaze as the man settled into his chair, all long, slim limbs and graceful movements. He was dressed casually, in light beige chinos, tight over his sculpted thighs and calves, a blue button-up with a fine pink flowery print, and a silver-gray jacket. His clothes and movements had that subtle feminine flair Joakim always admired. It spoke of courage and honesty, of being comfortable with your true self. Combined with the shine of his blond, windswept hair and his milky skin, Kevin shone in the dim restaurant like a f*cking supernova.

Joakim was still staring. Say something normal. Anything! Joakim only thought of telling Kevin he was the most gorgeous being he’d ever seen in his whole damned life, but he stopped himself. Other than that, nothing came. First date, dammit. You’ve done this hundreds of times. Get a grip.

Kevin was nervous now, fiddling with his sleeve, and he looked at Joakim from the corner of his eye. Joakim realized that in order to restart his brain, he needed to look away. Tearing his gaze away from Kevin was painful, but Joakim managed to steer his attention to the bar. Look, there are glasses and shakers. Bottles. Personnel. A bartender. Say something normal.

“They have cocktails, but there’s also sake. They’re known for their great sake selection. Or Japanese beer? Lager?” And now he was rambling. Jesus! After an epic dry spell, I finally meet a man I actually want to impress, and that’s when my intellect decides to take a day off? Really?

“Sake sounds great. I haven’t had sake in ages.”

“You’re in for a treat. They’re quite busy, so we might have to wait a tiny bit longer, but the food is worth it.”

“I trust you,” Kevin said with a soft smile, and Joakim’s brain scrambled again.

“Wow, I can’t even look at you,” he blurted.

Kevin’s eyes widened. He blinked, obviously at a loss as to what to say and jumping to the wrong conclusions already.

“No! Sh*t, sorry. Not like that. I… your face is very distracting.”

Still confused, Kevin parted his amazing mouth to speak, but Joakim intercepted him. “You are beautiful, Kevin. Gorgeous. And it’s messing with my head a little. I’ll be fine in a minute. I better stop babbling before you run away.”

“I… erm. Thank you?”

Joakim had to laugh at the sincere bewilderment of the man.

“Let’s order some sake,” Joakim said, trying to climb out of the hole he’d managed to dig himself during the first two minutes of the date.

“Yeah. I think I need a drink too,” Kevin said in a perfectly natural voice, and Joakim thanked all the gods and all the elements and Kevin for saving him from lethal embarrassment. Joakim could talk about food and sake without saying something stupid. He was almost sure he could.

Carra's Review

This entire series has been an exemplary example of what erotic romance is, and Beautiful Beast continues the author’s outstanding storytelling—and his characters’ intense sexual encounters.  Dirty talking indeed.

Yes, Joakim has that insta-lust moment and lucks into the chance to explore that with the object of his attention, someone he thinks is out of his league but still takes the chance to contact.  That sounds very much like every swipe I take in my own online dating adventures, sadly though without the raging success Joakim experiences once he and Kevin connect.

I really liked that there wasn’t any big drama in this story, just the engaging and wonderfully dirty-talking, intense, and of course erotic evolution of their relationship.  An excess of sexy times?  Yes, a very delicious level of excess.  But the author does use that level of naughtiness to bring out the best in both Joakim and Kevin, creating another potent pairing where the sexual side of their relationship just intensifies their relationship as a whole.

And if that feeds the naughty-loving side of my psyche, I’m just going to take that as a bonus.  A sensual, oh-my-goodness-yes bonus.

Beautiful Beast is another home run in the series, and the excellent writing, captivating characters, and titillating physical scenes all combine for a searing 5-star read.  I sure hope this one’s coming in audiobook ;-)  Adult language and erotic sexual content mean this book is for readers 18+.

Blurb

It could have been just an innocent crush. Something guiltless and fleeting. But Luke spends every day with Marcus; they talk, touch and dance together, they create and perform together. They know each other inside out. As a consequence, Luke has been in love with his very much taken choreographer for years. Seeing Marcus and his partner Liam together has become increasingly painful, and Luke needs to leave. His dancing career is nearing an end anyway. He will start university, reinvent himself, forget Marcus and find happiness elsewhere.

Except Marcus loves him back. And Liam knows. Liam’s dark eyes and his imposing silhouette begin haunting Luke’s dreams. Drowning in both lust and sadness, Luke is swept into a passionate triangle with two men who couldn’t be more different. Suddenly, instead of fear or caution, there’s just a mind-numbing desire for more.

Excerpt

Liam had always known words wouldn’t fix this. He walked closer, pausing next to Luke, who still wouldn’t look at him. Liam covered Luke’s left hand with his. The chill shocked him at first. Luke’s hand was ice-cold, and Liam was painfully aware of the last time they’d touched, two months ago at the hospital. He squeezed lightly before he stroked Luke’s fingers, warming them. Luke didn’t move, except his head sunk lower.

He didn’t pull away. Luke didn’t pull away.

Of course, he didn’t. Liam hadn’t imagined the energy between them. Carefully watching Luke’s profile for clues, he lifted his other hand and let it rest on Luke’s neck. Luke squeezed his eyes shut and inhaled harshly, and Liam could see Luke struggling. His chest ached at the sight. He massaged Luke’s nape while the man battled with himself. Liam stepped closer still until his nose brushed Luke’s hair. Breathing in Luke’s scent, he nuzzled his temple. Just a second passed, and Liam wanted to pause the time. Please. He felt a shudder ripple through Luke. One more second, one more breath. It was unmistakable. They both felt it, the same pull, the same rush of want, glimpses of a future, a different reality where they would touch willingly and with the ease of familiar lovers. God, it had been such a long time since Liam felt this sure, this convinced of the grand potential of love.

A deep sigh and Luke leaned away, pulling his hand from underneath Liam’s.

“This is so wrong,” Luke blurted. He hugged his hand to his chest as if Liam had burned him with his touch.

“Why?” Liam asked.

Luke met Liam’s eyes, his mouth parted and closed again. Of course, he didn’t have an answer.

“You are supposed to hate me,” Luke whispered.

Liam smiled through the sadness. He caressed Luke’s cheek, then let his nails brush through the stubble. Luke sucked in a breath, and his pupils widened. Yes, he felt it too, Liam could see.

“I don’t hate you. Never have.”

“You should.”

Liam only shrugged. He needed more time with Luke. It wasn’t just Marcus who bound them together, not anymore. Luke stood still, accepting Liam’s touch, but it was obvious he could leave any second now. Liam had nothing to lose. He brushed a thumb over Luke’s lips. Their gazes locked, and Liam inched closer. He felt Luke’s short, shallow breaths against his finger. He traced the shape, the curve from the center of Luke’s top lip to the left corner. Leaning closer still, he managed to brush his nose against Luke’s in a featherlight touch.

Maybe the kiss wouldn’t have changed anything, and maybe it would have. Liam never got to know. Luke tore away, a low hiss escaping, and he was gone.

Throwing his head back, Liam braced his hands on his hips and sighed.

He needed more time. But how?

Carra's Review

Roe Horvat continues to impress with his latest entry in this series.  Between the writing, the story, and the characters, I was mesmerized with Third One from start to finish…reading it in a single sitting.  The emotional depth exhibited here is something that’s been evident in every book in the series, and the slow dance between Luke and Liam in particular was achingly beautiful.

The foundation for these three men has already been laid with the feelings Luke and Marcus had developed for each other throughout their professional relationship.  It’s something on which Luke couldn’t bring himself to act since Marcus was already in a long-term relationship with Liam.  But as that professional relationship readies to dissolve, it’s time for them—all of them—to take a chance…and the result is breathtaking.

I loved, loved, loved watching as their triad developed because the discovery phase was riveting.  Their first intimate connection was mesmerizing and incredibly erotic.  Marcus is already so far gone for Luke that any outcome other than the three of them together would completely devastate him.  What was even more intriguing was the evolution of Luke and Liam’s bond, something that was actually there pretty much all along but just needed each of them to realize it.

I was so glad that we were able to get this story from the point of view of all three of them.  It gave the story the right amount of depth to fully understand the connection between all three men without feeling like there were too many voices participating in the telling of the tale.

At this point, I think anything I read by this author will get this reaction from me, but I’m still going to point out that this is absolutely a 5-star read.  While it is part of a series, this book could be read on its own—but I think you already know I’d highly recommend reading the stories in order.  There are supporting characters from the previous stories, and you’ll definitely want to know their stories as well.  As this is an erotic romance, this book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and explicit sexual content.

Audiobook Review & Giveaway: THE OTHER BOOK by Roe Horvat

Length: 4hrs 26mins
Cover Design: Roe Horvat
Narrated By: Vance Bastian

Blurb

It was supposed to be just sex...Famous last words.

Tyler doesn't overthink pleasure and avoids complications. He knows it might be stupid to get involved with his closeted boss, but the temptation is too great. At first, the cold and beautiful Joel Sandstrom seems to loathe Tyler's guts.

Except one late night at the office, his reasons become clear...and his control breaks.

Every time they touch, Joel's stony face comes alive, harsh lines smooth out, and for a minute, he looks serene. Happy, even. Just sex - dirty, intense, spectacular sex.

During their covert encounters, Tyler discovers the power he has over the lonesome man, and it's a heady feeling. What if he could set Joel free and give him peace of mind? When Tyler realizes how much Joel needs him, he doesn't regret breaking his own rules.

Gay erotic romance. Contains explicit scenes and sexual interactions between more than two partners. For adult readers only.

Carra's Review

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I was duly impressed by the writing and the solid storyline here, and the erotic intimate scenes were well off the charts *fans self*  It starts with an enemies-to-lovers vibe though as the story goes on it morphs into something more emotional.

Tyler is unapologetically himself, and enjoys a pretty free lifestyle—particularly when it comes to his intimate adventures—and has no problem taking charge.  Especially when it comes to his boss, Joel.  Joel seems very straight-laced at work, but has a huge weakness when it comes to Tyler.  Their clandestine encounters eventually become more…something Joel desperately needs thanks to the stresses in his life.

Make no mistake—this is absolutely an erotic romance.  There’s not only plenty of sex scenes, but you’re also going to find some with more than just Tyler and Joel involved.  The interesting thing is the scenes are not necessarily just gratuitous; the connections that form and the release they bring for Joel do serve a purpose (and yes, okay, they’re hella hot to read…not gonna lie).

Not all erotic romance is just about the sex, and that is definitely the case here as Joel’s journey is an emotional one and highly personal—not just in the relationship he develops with Tyler, but also in his coming out and in his family life.  My only lament with this book is that it is told entirely from Tyler’s point of view; I would have loved to have heard Joel’s thoughts as things unfolded.  But even without Joel’s side this story is still moving and had me not wanting to put it down.

I loved this story, and it’s getting the full 5 star rating from me.  I’m also intrigued by Tyler’s friends Adam and Christoffer, I’m hoping they’ll have a story of their own to show how they got together as I’d love to read more about them!  The Other Book is meant strictly for readers 18+ for adult language and explicit erotic scenes, including some with multiple partners (so if that’s not your thing, you’ve been warned…but if it is your thing, you’re going to enjoy the ride!).  Be prepared for the heat, because this book does live up to its reputation ;-)

The narration: This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to from this narrator, and I thought Vance Bastian did a superb job of bringing The Other Book to life.  The more intense the physical scenes became between the characters, the more emotional the voices became to portray them.  The pacing was even and comfortable, and the voices different enough from each other to know which characters were speaking.  This will easily be an audiobook that I’ll be listening to again and again…5 stars for the narration!

Blurb

On stage, Adam lets his passion drive him. All his secret desires, everything nasty, dirty, and beautiful flows freely through him, for once in harmony. His soul thrives when his body moves, but only on stage. Adam’s passionate nature makes him a great dancer…and a failure at life. He’s a lonely, emotional mess. Going home with a man far out of his reach is the last thing Adam should do. Christoffer represents everything Adam isn’t: strong, independent, educated, and rich. His kind eyes, at odds with his brutish form, make Adam’s knees and restraint buckle.

Once Christoffer sees Adam dancing, he’s lost. The young man is mesmerizing, otherworldly, and unpredictable. Whatever might happen between them, it will be transient, and Christoffer will most likely get hurt. The temptation is too great, however, and the sex explosive. He might as well enjoy every moment he’s given, even if it’s just one day, maybe two. If Christoffer treads carefully, Adam might stay until Monday.

Excerpt

He didn’t have a clue what he was doing. Why was he still here? He should leave. Now.

The house was far away from any main roads, but he could walk for a bit and then get a taxi to the nearest train station back to the city. Maybe there was a bus stop somewhere close. His thoughts sharpened—the jerking off, swim, and caffeine had cleared his brain. Determined not to waste more time daydreaming about wealthy bears who never gave a damn, he finished his coffee. He’d need to sneak back to the bathroom to get his clothes. And his phone. He shouldn’t have lingered.

He found which cabinet door in the kitchen hid the built-in dishwasher and placed the cup inside. Then he climbed the stairs on tiptoes and peeked into the bedroom. Christoffer slept on his back, snoring softly.

Adam spotted his phone on the nightstand. Christoffer must have put it on charge after Adam had fallen asleep. He wouldn’t dwell on how considerate that was. He snatched up the phone and closed himself in the bathroom.

Eying the red thong with disgust, he threw it in the trash. What had he been thinking? He dragged the jeans up his naked body, pulled on his socks and slid into the T-shirt. His jacket was downstairs. He opened the door carefully, ready to bolt without looking at the sleeping man.

Except Christoffer was now sitting on the edge of the bed, naked, staring up at Adam with sleepy eyes.

Sh*t.

“Hi,” Christoffer murmured. His eyes slid up and down Adam’s body, noticing the clothes. His smile turned cautious.

“Hi.” Adam shifted from foot to foot. What now?

The moment dragged on until Adam’s heart was pounding. He needed to say something, quick, and get out of there before it could get any more awkward.

“I…” he began but closed his mouth again. He couldn’t decipher Christoffer’s expression. And all that skin on display was distracting.

Christoffer braced his hands on his knees and inhaled deeply, his Goliathan shoulders lifting. “You like eggs?”

“What?”

“For breakfast.”

“Yeah,” Adam blurted before he thought of the implications. He was staying for breakfast? He wanted to. Stupid! He absolutely shouldn’t! Seeing Christoffer now, those gentle gray eyes such a contrast to his brutish form, Adam ached to stay. You stupid, horny, clingy asshole. Get out of here!

He opened his mouth to say something else, to apologize and whisper goodbye, but Christoffer was faster.

“Good. Wait for me in the kitchen. I just need to…” He gestured to the bathroom door behind Adam’s back.

“Oh. Sure.”

Adam stepped aside, quivering, and the big man stood in all his naked glory. He bent down and kissed Adam’s cheek, lingering, his breath hot by Adam’s ear. Then he disappeared into the bathroom. “I’ll be just a minute,” he threw over his shoulder before the door snapped shut.

Adam stood there, stunned, and touched his tingling cheek.

Carra's Review

There’s a handful of erotic romance stories I’ve read where the main couple is one that evolves in a whirlwind of crazily intense passion over a short timeframe, and the author has made their relationship believable as more than just a surface level physical attraction.  Adam and Christoffer have easily claimed the top of that list, and Roe Horvat has now been cemented on my shortlist of auto-buy authors.

When I read the first book in this series (The Other Book), it was virtually impossible to not have my interest piqued by Adam and Christoffer.  They played a unique role as Tyler’s friend and as a part of Joel’s journey in that story.  Adam is clearly an exceptionally sexual being, but contrary to what some might think of him, he’s not promiscuous—he just feels things passionately as he experiences them.  Christoffer clearly brings this out in Adam more than anyone, and knows exactly what to do to help Adam soar.

Neither of them think they deserve the other.  They both have it in their heads that their initial time together will be it.  They both want more…a LOT more…and not just in a “that’s the best sex I’ve ever had” way either.  The author did a good job of giving Adam and Christoffer enough MEANINGFUL non-sexual interaction to make the development between them credible, and to have me fully invested in their happiness as well.

And oh my, those sexual interactions.  I had an idea what to expect after reading The Other Book, but still.  Oh my.  I read a definition of erotic romance once that says in its definition that “sex plays a deep role in the characters’ journey towards love”.  That is absolutely true here—the sex is explicit, erotic, and plentiful; but just like with book one it was not simply gratuitous.

Roe Horvat continues to blow me away with his writing, and Adam Only is deserving of ALL the stars (so in book review land, that means 5).  While this is the second book in the series, it’s not necessary (at least at this point) to read these in order.  Adam Only actually comes before The Other Book in the timeline.  I did like seeing Tyler here, and to get a bit more background for him—this actually makes me want to go back and re-read the first book.  If you haven’t read it yet, take your pick on which one to read first; but if you’re a fan of M/M erotic romance, both stories need to be in your library—if they’re not then you are truly missing out.  This book and series are meant strictly for readers 18+ for adult language and explicit erotic sexual content.
