The Fireman & The Cop
Rescuing a cop from a burning precinct is in Max's job description; falling in love was never part of the deal.
Max Harrison moved from the city to take up a role as assistant to the mayor, while also a volunteer firefighter. When he meets Finn Ryan in Ellery, he falls in lust that burns as hot as the fires an arsonist is setting in town.
Finn Ryan is a cop, and somehow he's attracted trouble. Going back into a fire to rescue the town drunk is just the start. Now he has to rely on the man he's falling for to make sure it doesn't end with him dying.
Carra's Quick Review-The Fireman & The Cop
I really liked both Max and Finn's characters. They are both protectors, both strong and sure of who they are, and they share a mutual attraction. Though these poor guys...every time they try to start something, they get interrupted. Well, almost every time ;-)
The way they meet under such stressful, life-threatening conditions and Finn's reaction to finding out Max is a firefighter actually becoming a bit of an amusing meet-cute. These two are interested in each other from the start, but thanks to several interruptions and emergencies their relationship progresses slowly at first. There's a bit of intrigue thrown in as they try to unravel those unexplained emergencies, which tosses a bit of tension into the story.
I did think the perpetrator that was revealed was almost unexpected since given what we discover up to that point there was no reason to think that person would come into play. A longer story with more insight into Finn's past might have helped me go along more with the revelation of the perp's identity.
This one is still a 4-star read for me, with the brunt of that rating resting squarely on the wonderful Finn and Max. A bit of naughtiness does eventually happen, making this story one for readers 18+ for adult language and M/M sexual content.
The Teacher & The Soldier
Soldier, Daniel Skylar, falls hard and heavy for school teacher Luke Fitzgerald. How can he make him stay in Ellery?
Luke Fitzgerald left Ellery Mountain for college and vowed never to come back. When his abusive father is murdered, he has no choice but to return. Luke only goes home to sell off his share of the Ellery Mountain Cabins, but everything changes when he meets the son of the other owner. Daniel Skylar lives every day to the limit and sees a future in Luke.
It doesn't matter what Daniel says, or how much he needs Luke. Luke isn't staying once everything is sold off. Surely Daniel can understand that what they have between them is just a two-week fling; there is no way it could be love.
Can Daniel persuade Luke that they are in love, and they can build a future together?
Carra's Quick Review-The Teacher & The Soldier
Okay, I have to say given his past and now return to Ellery Mountain, I really felt for Luke. He does get a bit abrasive at times-particularly near the end-but even so I still had those tugs in my heart for him. I loved how compassionate, understanding and patient Daniel is with Luke, and because of that Luke made me upset with his words and actions right before the end of the story.
I think the shorter length of the stories in this series did work against these two, I really would have liked to get a more in-depth look at the development of their relationship. The two of them are insanely hot together, with chemistry that is plainly obvious. That "L" word creeps up on both of them pretty fast-one of the reasons I wish this was longer-even though they'd agreed on just a couple of weeks together before Luke would be moving on.
It was Daniel who really made me enjoy this story overall. I loved his character, and really wanted to see things between him and Luke work out (hence my previously mentioned upset with Luke). I liked this story a tad bit more than the first in the series, but this one is still going to be a 4-star in the end for me. A bit hotter and naughtier than book one, so this is still for the 18+ crowd. Also, for those sensitive to stories of physical abuse be aware that some descriptions in the story may be upsetting.
The Carpenter & The Actor
Jason McInnery, hounded by the paparazzi after his brother's death, runs to the one place where he hopes people won't sell him out. The place where he was born. Hiding in the tourist cabins at Ellery Mountain Resort out of season, he thinks he finally has room to breathe.
Kieran Dexter is a man who knows what he wants; gorgeous actor Jason tied up and begging. When the hottest sex he's ever had turns to feelings of love, he's faced with convincing Jason to give them a try and stay in Ellery.
Carra's Quick Review-The Carpenter & The Actor
BUT...Kieran and Jason's relationship developed quite differently from Daniel and Luke's. Where Daniel and Luke felt more entwined and like physical need to me, Kieran and Jason felt like comfort and familiarity...peppered with a really nice dose of spice! While the time constraint similarity between the stories still poked at me here and there while reading, I was able to overlook it in the end because Kieran and Jason worked so well together.
This series is very solid so far, and The Carpenter & The Actor gets another 4 stars from me. Again, this is still for readers 18+ thanks to the adult language and M/M sexual content. I'm looking forward to the future match-ups to come in this series, and I'll definitely be following along!
