I’ve read quite a few M/M/M menage romances, but this is the first I’ve read where the first two main characters are in an open relationship. While that might be something that doesn’t work for many people (and is not something could rationalize personally), it really does work for Tom and Cass.
When the story first starts out, it’s actually difficult to tell that Tom’s not already in a relationship when he and Jake get together. Tom and Jake are sizzling hot with instant chemistry in the bedroom, so once I got to Tom and Cass together my curiosity was piqued to see how Jake would fit in, even with their open relationship. After Tom and Jake’s initial hookup, things between them go back to progressing slowly, allowing a friendship to develop and also allowing Cass to gradually enter the picture. While Tom and Jake’s spark was fast and continued to stay heated, things between Jake and Cass at first didn’t seem to be more than just friends…until it just WAS more. What develops between Jake and Cass feels more comfortable than the intensity between Jake and Tom, but both feel just as deep as the relationship between the three men progresses.
Jake’s Tourette’s does put an interesting spin on their relationship, and Tom and Cass each react and deal with it differently while both making it a non-issue between them. The three men fit together very well, each giving the other something different but exactly what each of them need. I really enjoyed taking this journey with them as their threesome developed. All three of them undergo character growth, especially Jake as he becomes a part of Cass and Tom’s lives both personally and professionally. Things do get emotional at times, particularly when Cass’s past invades the present and turns things a bit upside down for him.
Tom, Cass and Jake go from an existing couple who are a bit lost together and a young man trying to live with a disorder that interrupts his life at time to a cohesive threesome who depend on each other, love each other, and support each other unconditionally while closing that open relationship to a circle of three. I loved their story, and know I’ll be re-reading this in the future.
4.5 stars for Misfits, and fans of M/M/M menage romance-if you haven’t read this yet, you’ll definitely want to add it to your library. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and explicit M/M and M/M/M sexual content (hot…so very, very hot…). This was actually the first book I’ve read by this author, and it’s now guaranteed that I’ll be reading her entire backlist.
