Blog Tour-Review, Excerpt and Giveaway: The Awakening of Ivy Leavold by Sierra Simone

Title:   The Awakening of Ivy Leavold (Markham Hall Series Book #1)
Author:   Sierra Simone
Genre:   Historical Romance
Release Day:  January 12, 2015

Synopsis:
Yorkshire, 1879
I am alone.
When Ivy Leavold is left destitute by her brother’s death, she is taken in by her cousin’s brooding, tortured widower--Julian Markham.  Handsome and possessive, it’s not long before Ivy falls for him.  But Mr. Markham has dark secrets, secrets that may put Ivy in danger...
I am afraid.
As Ivy unravels the mystery surrounding her cousin’s death, she falls deeper and deeper in love with Julian, who opens her body and her mind to his indomitable will.  But even as he draws pleasure and desire from her night after night, Ivy can’t shake the feeling that their passionate affair may end in violence…

And I am completely his.

Excerpt:
I placed my hand in his, and he pulled me close, his lips brushing against my ear.  “Do you trust me?”

Any well-brought up woman would say no.  But I wasn’t well-brought up, hadn’t been anything remotely like that since my parents died.  “Yes,” I whispered.

“Good.”

His hands slid down over my shoulders to my waist, and he dropped a kiss on my lips.  I tilted my face toward him, wanting more, but he moved around behind me, and I felt his fingers dance down my neck, down to the hollow between my shoulder blades where the buttons to my dress began.  One by one, the buttons tugged and loosened, freeing me incrementally.

The dress slid down my body, the silk whispering against my petticoats and my corset.  “A woman’s first time should be entirely about her,” he said in a low voice.  “I promise to do my best, but you test every limit of my self-control.”

Oh, how I hoped that was true.  I knew I should expect gentleness, but that wasn’t ever what I had responded to from Julian.  Seeing him at the edge of his restraint, his eyes half-lidded as he barely resisted his own darkest urges, knowing it was me who made him that way, it made me just as wild.  I craved that, that simultaneous feeling of power and lack of power.

“Don’t be too gentle,” I murmured.

“With you, wildcat, I don’t think there’s any real risk of that.”

My petticoats fell away, and he laid them carefully over a chair.  Then came my corset, my breasts feeling heavy and full without its support.

When I was entirely naked, he stood before me, his eyes taking in every dip and curve of my body.  I felt his eyes like his fingers, as if he were marking with his gaze all of the places he wanted to kiss.  And I saw clearly the outline of his desire, his erection large and hard in his breeches.  His eyes kept lingering on my breasts, on the place between my legs.

“You were made for f*cking,” he said roughly.

I looked at his green eyes, the way his body exuded power and wealth and lust and raw animal need.

“I was made for you,” I answered.

My Review:

I'll make this easy for you-I LOVED it!  I usually only read historical romances upon request since most that I've read have female lead characters who are not strong or independent, mostly due to the time period in which the story is set.  With Ivy though, thanks to her upbringing she is the epitome of the independent woman which we see throughout the story from the moment she arrives at Markham Hall.

I found this story to be character-driven and totally engrossing...not to mention hot, steamy and in some places downright naughty (and yes, that's a VERY good thing).  Julian Markham's character...mmm, yes please.  Worldly, brooding and supremely alpha-and even so, Ivy can give him a run for his money in terms of strength, independence and attitude.  The two of them together make for lots of sexual tension, then lots of steam...and finally an ending that will have you demanding the next book right now.

I do admit, the scene with Julian's group of friends that come to stay at Markham Hall right before they leave was a little outside of my comfort zone, but other than that I was captivated by the story and characters, and can't wait to see what comes next...5 stars!

About SEDUCTION’S KISS:
*Prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)*

Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate. At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex-boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice:

1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper
2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire's nest mates
3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero

Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.

Excerpt
We wove our way through the crowds. I glanced into the rows of bars and clubs teeming with people dressed in various degrees of costumes. Despite my apprehension of hanging out with someone I barely knew, the excitement seemed to be rubbing off on me. I found myself moving along to the music spilling out of one club when we were momentarily stopped.

“Duncan!” A girl with long blond hair yelled and proceeded to wrap her arms around Duncan’s neck. She was dressed as a pumpkin, if a pumpkin was just a skimpy piece of orange fabric. “Come dancing with us.” She was visibly drunk.

“Oh, hi.” He gave me an apologetic look.

I shrugged. It wasn’t like we were on a date.

“Why aren’t you dressed up? It’s Halloween. You’re supposed to be dressed up.”

He shoved a hand into his back pocket. “How do you know that I’m not dressed up?”

“Laurie!” The girl yelled. “It’s Duncan, the stripper who did Debbie’s party last week.”

Wait. What? Did he strip? Wow, that was pretty surprising. He wasn’t bad looking, but I hadn’t met a male stripper before.

Another girl ran over. This one was appropriately attired. She had an awesome lollipop costume on. She also gave Duncan a hug, so I decided to people watch while I waited. That’s when I saw him. The gorgeous guy from the bar. All six plus feet of his perfectness. This time he was wearing one of those sleeveless white t-shirts that showed off his muscular arms. But it wasn’t his muscles that jumped out the most. It was his beautiful set of black wings. Now that was a costume.

He glanced up just as he passed, and my chest tightened. He looked at me with curiosity for a second before continuing on. Maybe he vaguely remembered my face but didn’t know why. I wasn’t sure what would be worse, if he remembered the humiliating moment, or if he didn’t.

I suddenly felt embarrassed of my cat costume. Were the whiskers too much?

“Daisy?” Duncan called my name and snapped me out of my daze. “Ready?” The girls must have walked off while I was distracted because Duncan was alone watching me. I wondered how obvious my ogling was.

“Yeah, sure.”

Duncan towed me along until he turned into a dark and completely unappealing dive. This was his favorite place? I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t want to offend him. Maybe this was one of those hidden gems you always hear about. Just to be safe I texted Reyna the name of the place as inconspicuously as possible, Grounddiggers.

“Who are you texting?” Duncan asked as we walked through the entrance.

Evidently I wasn’t as inconspicuous as I thought. “Just a friend.” I’m not sure why I didn’t just tell him who it was. I just felt like it was safer not to.

He nodded at a bouncer, who like Duncan was dressed all in black. The bouncer grunted something unintelligible to Duncan. Duncan must have taken the grunt to mean enter because he pulled me further inside.

My Review

One of things a good prequel does is hook you for the series, and Seduction's Kiss definitely fits that bill.  Meant to give background for the upcoming Allure series and how Daisy and Owen meet, it pulls you in right away and doesn't let go.

The book sports a great cast of characters; Daisy is a great lead female, strong, smart and cares about her friends.  We don't get to see a lot of Owen, but he comes across as the strong, quiet and protective type-and of course hot and sexy.  The supporting characters come across as fully developed with their own quirks and attitudes.

I was totally absorbed by this story, and really enjoyed the introduction it gave into this new world the author has created.  I can't wait to read Lure, the first full book of the series, and see where everything is headed since the author has intrigued me with Seduction's Kiss.  And after all-with witches, vampires and Pterons...I can tell I'm in for a great ride.

If you're a paranormal fan, you'll definitely want to pick up Seduction's Kiss ASAP...5 stars!

Promo and Excerpt: Dead in a Dumpster (Leah Norwood Mystery #1) by B.L. Blair

Title:
Dead in a Dumpster: Leah Norwood Mystery #1

Author:
B.L. Blair

When Leah Norwood finds the body of Isabel Meeks in the dumpster behind her store, she can’t believe the police consider her a suspect. Sure, she didn’t liked Isabel, but then again, neither did anyone else. Isabel had a condescending attitude and a bad reputation. As manager of the antique store, Patina, she had made a lot of enemies.

There is Patina’s assistant manager, the handsome and charming Trent. Isabel was blackmailing him. There is Patina’s owner, the aloof and influential Anthony Thorpe.  Isabel was smuggling drugs through his store. And there is the entire drug dealing Cantono family. Isabel had lost a box containing heroin from one of their shipments. That is just to name a few and didn’t even include the stranger who was seen arguing with Isabel just hours before her death.

The police have too many suspects and too many soft alibis. Leah needs to prove to the sexy new chief of police that she had nothing to do with Isabel’s death.

Leah loves a good mystery. Can she find the killer before the police arrest her for murder?

“So you found the victim about seven fifty?” asked the baby-faced young cop.

Why was everyone so young?  The name on his badge read Keith Cisneros.  I have always been a little nervous around police officers.  I’m not sure why.  However, I couldn’t be nervous around Keith.  First, he was just too young.  Second, I didn’t have any nerves left.  I was too wet, too cold, and too miserable.  And third, I knew Keith.  Not well, but well enough to not find him intimidating.

We were standing by the dumpster and trying not to look at Isabel.  I don’t think Keith had ever seen a dead body either because the look on his face made me think he wanted to follow in my footsteps – scream, run into the nearest building, and lose his lunch.  But the kid was made of sterner stuff.  My estimation of him rose as he held his ground and questioned me.

“What were you doing out here?” he asked.  Okay, so my estimation of him fell a little.  I glanced at the trash bags sitting at our feet and tried to keep my voice even as I answered.

“I was taking out the trash.”  I don’t think I succeeded as he looked at the trash and then flushed.  Now I felt bad, like I had kicked a puppy.

“So did you …”

“Cisneros.”  A deep, smoky voice cut through the night.  Both of us jumped and then turned toward the voice.  From the shadows, a figure emerged.  If I had any nerves left, I might have been a little anxious.  The man walking toward us moved like a stalking panther.  Smooth, long strides that ate up the space.

He was breathtaking.  Not gorgeous or handsome but there was a power about him that drew the eye.  He wasn’t exceptionally tall, standing about five eleven, but his shoulders were broad and his hips narrow.  Dark hair cut short in a military style, covered his head.  His face was attractive in a timeless way.  Chiseled and clean-shaven but with just a hint of a five o’clock shadow.  He had a small indentation on the right side of his mouth that was trying very hard to be a dimple.  It was as if he was willing it not to appear with the strength of his personality alone.  He had intense green eyes that swept over me briefly before settling on Keith.

He looked familiar, but I knew we had never met.  I would have remembered him.  He stopped between us and turned to Keith.  “What have we got?”

“Victim identified as Isabel Meeks.  Gunshot wound to the chest, close range.  She was found about seven fifty p.m. by Ms. Norwood.”

Keith pointed to me, and the man turned his eyes to mine.  His gaze swept down my body and back up.  He then dismissed me without a second glance before turning back to the rookie.  “Has the ME been called?”

Now, I know that I am not the most attractive person in the world.  I am what most people would call average.  Average height, average weight, average looks, but being dismissed so completely really pissed me off.  I was cold, wet, tired, and quite frankly, still a little queasy.

And it had been a really bad day.

“Can I leave now?”

Both of them turned toward me.  Keith seemed a little surprised that I was still there.  The other man just seemed irritated that I had interrupted him.

“You found the body?” he asked and then continued when I nodded, “We will need to ask you some questions.”

Keith had been asking me questions.  My nerves were shot and my temper short.  I am not usually such a bitch, but I had enough of standing out in the freezing rain.  I probably shouldn’t have mouthed off to a police officer, but I figured my day couldn’t get any worse.  I
summoned up my inner diva, gave him my most haughty look, and asked in a snooty tone.

“And you are?”

He stared at me a minute, his eyes hard and unyielding.  He raised his eyebrows just a notch, pulled out a badge, and held it toward me.  “Chief of Police Alexander Griggs.”

Well, damn, my day just got worse.

Cover Reveal and Excerpt: Sidelined by Emma Hart

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.
When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn't the only thing on the line...
Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.
The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.
Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.
Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.
Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?
In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

EXCERPT:
“Put the drink down, M,” he whispers. “It’s f*cking with you.”
“Really? I thought that was you f*cking with me,” I respond, turning to him and pressing a hand against his chest. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Like, right here. Literally.
“It’s my best friend’s birthday.” He smirks. “Why’ve you been staring at me all night like you wanna suck and bite my c*ck simultaneously?”
“I assure you it was the latter.”
“Sure it was.” Jack steps into me again, and I grab my glass with the hand closest to him so I don’t grab his ass or something, ‘cause, sh*t. He’s got a sweet as hell ass.
“It was.” I drink. Again. Where the hell are my girls? “I feel like dancing.” I finish the glass and twist my body away from his.
His hand finally falls from me as I stalk toward and down the stairs. I slip into the moving crowd, but I’ve barely moved my hips when two large, strong hands clasp me and tug me backward. The wall of muscle my back slams into is solid, and I exhale on a whoosh, even as I close my fingers against the ones clasping my hips.
“Nice try, baby,” Jack says into my ear. “Run if you want. I’m a running back. I’ll chase you and catch you every f*ckin’ time.”
“Sounds like a promise you can’t keep, doll,” I reply, my breath catching when he moves my hips against his.
“Sounds like a promise you’re afraid of.”
I laugh and shove his hands away from me. I turn to face him. Even in the darkness, his eyes blaze bright green, so f*cking bright they’re close to blinding me every time the strobe lighting coasts across his face. And, sh*t, it does it so many times, and every time, it illuminates every line and curve of his perfectly sculpted jaw.
“You wish, Jack Carr. You f*cking wish.”
His hands snatch mine and he pulls me through the crowd. I fight his hold, but his grip is too tight.
My heart pounds as he drags me through the hall with certainty, and in two minutes, I find myself pressed against his goddamn car in the parking lot.
“What the f*ck?” I shout, shoving at him.
He grabs my hands once more and pins them over my head, effectively bending me backward on the hood of his SUV. “What the f*ck?” he replies, leaning into me, his voice low. “Is that hard or soft, quick or slow, deep or shallow? ‘Cause baby, I can f*ck you all six of those ways in one go.”
“None of them,” I snap. “What the f*ck, as in, what the f*ck, asshole?”
“Oh, that what the f*ck.” He bends forward a little more. Until his mouth is against my ear and his hard body is pressed right up against mine. “Maybe it’s the what the f*ck I felt when I felt your eyes on me all night. Maybe it’s the what the f*ck I felt when you looked at me like you wanted to f*ck me one minute, then the next, slice my balls in two. Maybe it’s the what the f*ck you’ve got in your eyes while you let me lie my body over yours in a motherf*cking parking lot seconds after I ask you how you want to be f*cked tonight.”
“I don’t want to be f*cked,” I reply, doing my best to slam my hands into his hood. I fail—sh*t, he’s so f*cking strong I can’t even twist my hands in his grip.
“Baby, your body says otherwise.”
“My body is an impulsive f*ckwit.”
“Your body knows me.”
“Again, my body is an impulsive f*ckwit.”
“You never did say.” He breathes against my jaw and brushes his lips against my skin. “How do you want to be f*cked?”
He tilts his face into my neck and kisses. Oh, hell, he kisses my neck, right beneath my jaw, where my chin meets my neck, and I pause. I inhale sharply.
“Get in the goddamn car,” he orders, releasing me.
“Excuse me?” I push up and stare at him.
“Get in the goddamn car,” he repeats, pulling open his door and staring me. “Or have I gotta throw you into it?”
“I am not getting into your car!”
He slams his door shuts and rounds on me. I step backward, but he’s too quick, and he wraps an arm around my waist. My body slams into his yet again as he opens the passenger side door of his SUV and throws me into it.
“Get. In. The. Goddamn. Car.”
“This is kidnap!”
He slams my door, and I both see and hear him laughing as he walks to the driver’s side. “Sure it is, baby. I’m startin’ the engine now, so you got ten seconds to get the hell out before I drive. One… two…”
