Did you fall in love with The English Brothers? Were you hot for the Winslows?  Katy Regnery's Blueberry Lane series continues with The Rousseau siblings!

For as long as Madeleine “Mad” Rousseau can remember, she’s been the “sweet” twin to her sister Jax’s “sassy.” But after an especially painful break-up, Mad decides she’s had enough of being sweet. Children’s librarian during the day, she begins visiting Philly’s seedier nightspots on a quest for adventure and experience. When Cortlandt “Cort” Ambler, the ex-boyfriend of Mad’s sister, Jax, saves her from disaster on one such evening, an unlikely friendship is born between the rebellious librarian and the moonlighting pianist…and two broken hearts begin a journey toward being whole again.

He saw her before she saw him, and for a second, just a split second, the whole world paused as he waited for her to turn, to find him, to nail and level him with those bright-green eyes. When she did—even prepared as he was—his breath caught, his heart stuttered, his very soul swept unrestrained from his person, seeking only to be bound to hers.

And if there had been any ambiguity about his feelings, about the profundity of his regard for her, or his desperate longing for her steady and unending residence in his life, all doubts were assuaged in that single second that tethered them back together.

His feelings for her were forever.

Forever.

He was done.

Finished.

Finished with dating. Finished with looking at other women. Finished with a life that didn’t include Mad Rousseau. Like a snake that had been in the process of shedding its skin to make way for the new, Cort’s old life slipped from his being with a soft whoosh, and the only life left for him to live was one that he spent with Mad.

It wasn’t just that he was fiercely attracted to her or that he’d secretly loved her since childhood. It was that the universe felt wrong unless she was standing on this spinning planet beside him, within reach, her eyes seeking his, the fluttering heartbeat in her throat never more than a touch away.

Carra's Review

Every time I read a book by Katy Regnery, it just further solidifies every reason I have for her being my favorite contemporary romance author.  Jonquils for Jax just hammered that home for me again-after it took my heart for a bumpy ride first.

Jay is the kind of woman who may have grown up in the lap of luxury, but honestly couldn't care about the trappings of wealth and the games played among the usual socialite circles.  I love that she holds on to her ideals and has no love of the Hollywood life, only wanting to get back to her true home and happiness.  Gardener...my goodness, he's just everything a woman could ever want, the kind of man that you meet, learn everything about, then you just have to *sigh* because...damn.

I like that they don't immediately jump at each other, and that things develop at a normal pace.  And the sweet things Gard says to Jax...there I go, sighing again.  He's romantic where other men might come off as cheesy...all because he really means what he's saying.  He wants to protect her, and hates when he can't.  Jax though is a strong woman, made even stronger and more grounded because of Gard.

Some of the other Blueberry Lane residents and Jax's family can be found in these pages of course, and it's like coming home to family getting to see them all again.  Though I could have done without Jax's mother.  I have several choice words for that woman-none of which are appropriate in most company.

Another impressive, hopelessly romantic story in The Blueberry Lane series, Jonquils for Jax was a 4.5-star read for me, and I highly recommend it to contemporary romance fans 18+ (for adult situations/language and some quite passionate sexual content).  If you haven't started this series, you need to be asking yourself why not...you can start here with Jonquils for Jax as it can be read as a standalone, but believe me--once you read it you'll want every single book in the whole series.

Tour-Review: Marrying Mr. English by Katy Regnery (The English Brothers #7, The Blueberry Lane Series)

Marrying Mr. English: The English Brothers #7
December 18, 2015

Blurb
You've all met the children and Eleanora and Tom English…but how exactly did down-on-her luck waitress, Eleanora Watters, meet trust fund hottie, Tom English?

You won't want to miss this Christmas novel that tells the story of how Eleanora met Tom, while he was visiting Vail in the 1980s.

Excerpt:
Eleanora and Tom walked back up the driveway toward Tom's car, their hands bound together as gleaming white gravel crunched under their feet. Eleanora's mind was spinning from the decision they'd just made together: Tom had turned down fifteen million dollars—an almost unfathomable sum of money—so that he could give their two-day marriage a chance.
It felt foolish and reckless, and his impetuousness frightened her.
It also made her heart swell with tenderness and her body tremble with longing.
Eleanora had never been anyone's first choice for anything. How in the world did she find herself here—with a man who had, literally, chosen her over diamonds and gold?
Looking up at the austere exterior of Haverford Park, she gulped, counting the sparkling windows nervously as she wondered if Grandfather English was watching them and hoping he wasn't. He was a hateful, hurtful old man who'd
judged her before knowing her, and she couldn't wait to get back into Tom's car and leave Haverford for good.
She'd just asked him, What about the money? How can you do this? How can you turn it down for me? And he'd sweetly—and resolutely—answered, I want you more.
Clutching his hand more tightly as they approached the car, she made him stop and face her, ignoring the tears that blurred her vision.
"Are you sure, Tom?"
He glanced up at the old house, narrowing his eyes and tightening his jaw before looking down at her upturned face with such gentleness, she couldn't keep the tears from spilling over the edges of her eyes.
He nodded, using his thumbs to swipe at the wetness before it could wind down her face.
"Positive."
A quiet surge of pure joy lifted her heels from the ground as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down to kiss her. His arms— so strong and so certain, it twisted her heart—pulled her against his solid body, her thrift shop coat colliding with his carmel-colored cashmere.
The kiss lasted only a moment before Tom rested his cold cheek against hers, still clutching her tightly.
"We'll be okay, sunshine. I promise."
"You don't know what it's like," she said softly, looking over his shoulder at a tennis court and a swimming pool in the distance, "to be poor."
"We won't be poor," he said. "I have some savings, and as soon as I get a job, we'll have a decent income too."
"You don't know what it's like to be alone," she pressed on, fearful for him, "without family."
"Believe me, a crotchety grandfather, an ineffective father, and a kid brother I barely know don't constitute a family. Somehow I think I'll get by." He leaned back, grinning at her. "Plus, I have you, baby. You're my family now."
She clenched her eyes shut against the welcome sweetness of his words, rubbing her cheek against his soft shoulder as tears ran over the bridge of her nose and plopped onto his expensive coat.
"Let's go," he rumbled near her ear. "I want to be alone with my family."

My Review

If someone were to ask me what I thought of Marrying Mr. English, my answer would be prefaced with a truly satisfied sigh and a smile, before I would say that it was a perfectly sweet and heartwarming story that showed exactly why Katy Regnery is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors.  We finally get to hear the tale of the parents behind all of the amazing English Brothers, and it's no surprise that it is just as emotionally fulfilling as the rest of the series.

Eleanora is one heck of a spunky young woman, smart and sweet, looking out for herself and her cousin as best as she can.  Tom is her polar opposite in terms of upbringing, though certainly not in other areas of personality and interests.  On the snooty, standing-centered paper of Tom's family's life-they would never work.  But in the real world of feelings, emotions and everyday life?  One of them would never work without the other.

Both Eleanora and Tom's characters grow as the story progresses, and both know that love-even just the chance at it-is worth just about anything.  Seeing how they persevere together, determined to make their relationship as a married couple work is moving and made me fall in love with the two of them.

The writing is outstanding (at this point I expect nothing less from this author), and the story wraps you up right from the beginning all the way through the sweet, present-day epilogue.  Another solid win in The English Brothers/Blueberry Lane series, Marrying Mr. English is a clear 5-star read and a must-have for those already enjoying the series--or anyone who just loves a wonderfully sweet romance with a hint of spice.  Recommended for 18+ for some adult language and sexual content.

Oh, and just an aside to the author...you've got my interest piqued for Van and Evie's story if you wouldn't mind getting around to telling it ;-)

“I didn’t know you were an only child.”
Tom gestured to a double chaise by the pool’s edge, and Eleanora sat down, swinging her legs up on the canvas seat as Tom sat down beside her. “Technically, I’m not. I have a little brother, my father’s son from his second marriage. But he’s only eighteen. We barely know each other.”
“I see,” she said, her voice kind and warm. “So lots of brothers sounded ideal.”
“A big family sounded ideal,” said Tom, putting his arm around her shoulders and pulling her against his side. “Still does.”
“Is that what you want someday?”
“Mm-hm,” he breathed softly. “A gaggle of kids so they’re never lonesome, so they always have each other.”
“Sounds nice,” she said. “Coming from four, I always thought—well, when I thought of having a family, which wasn’t very often—I always imagined it big. I don’t know any different.”
“A working mom?” he asked. “Managing your bookstores and a big family?”
She looked up at him and grinned. “Something like that. Maybe.”
He stared into her eyes for a long time, one hand caressing her shoulder as the other reached for her face. Finally he lowered his lips to hers, kissing her gently, reverently, without the heat from their previous kiss, but with ten times the tenderness.
“I hope you get everything you want,” he whispered, his breath soft against her lips. “I like you so much, Eleanora English.”
“I like you too,” she answered, nestling against his chest and closing her tired eyes.
In no time at all, they were asleep, held fast in each other’s arms, their dreams mingling and marrying under the fathomless desert sky.

Excerpt

Did she like him? She barely knew him.
All told, their relationship consisted of some flirty banter, her drugging him and taking lewd photos of him, showing up at his headquarters, finding out he hated her with the heat of a thousand suns, becoming his fake girlfriend, kissing him like the world was about to end, having her feelings hurt by his furious comments, knocking a cup of coffee out of his hands, and being kicked out of his office.
Not exactly an auspicious beginning.
Then again, she admired that he was only in his twenties and running for Congress. From what she knew of his platform, she admired his principles and policies. Just from the short amount of time she'd spent with him, she could tell he stood on a moral high ground. He was smart and driven, successful and hardworking, . . . and he hated every last centimeter of her guts.
Did she like him?
"What is there to like?" she asked Shappa, who turned and walked away as though embarrassed for her.
"I mean it!" she called after her cat. "What? His insults? His unforgiving, thankless demands? His disrespect? His nonstop cussing?" When she finished her tirade, she found herself perched on the edge of her chair, rigid with indignation, and suddenly slumped down, all the wind knocked from her sails as she recalled his face on Saturday night when he first laid eyes on her. The searing heat of his gaze. The wonder that took over his face as he stared at her like she'd just fallen from heaven.
"His fingers woven through mine," she said weakly, recalling their walk down a brambled path.
His light hair catching the sunlight yesterday on the steps of the campaign headquarters. The way his arm felt around her waist. His lips moving hungrily over hers.
Your eyes are like the night sky. The universe. The heavens and a million stars.
She sighed softly.
Of course she liked him.

In case you missed my review when it first posted...

So, it's no secret that I absolutely adore Katy Regnery's Blueberry Lane series, and as I read through the English Brothers and now through the Winslow Brothers, every book has seemed even better than the last. This time around, I'm a bit surprised because I'm actually sort of on the fence for Campaigning for Christopher. Not for the overall story, mostly for certain parts.

I am totally head over heels for Christopher Winslow (no surprise there). It's virtually impossible not to be-he's honest, loyal, fights for what he believes in and what's right, and let's not forget he's a Winslow brother so of course he's hot...sexy...gorgeous...pick your favorite adjective and just keep listing them here.

Jules, well...I liked everything about her character with one big exception--the decision she made at the beginning that led to the sabotaging of Christopher's campaign...I have a really hard time getting past that, especially since the action she took was based on well...pretty much squat. But besides that, I didn't feel the connection between her and Christopher like I did with all the other Blueberry Lane couples. I didn't really sense the intensity between them-maybe it's just me, maybe it's what she did to him when they first met...I'm not sure.

But even with my reservations, the story itself (once I get past the above issues) is still compelling and does cover some serious topics while still weaving a tale of romance and falling for someone you'd least expect. You'll also find the classic intimate scenes we've come to expect in a Blueberry Lane story (mostly toward the end, though there's sexual tension throughout the whole book).

With all that said, I'm giving Campaigning for Christopher 3.75 stars (rounding to 4). Not quite what I was hoping when I started the story, but still this is a very good read, and fans of the series will definitely want to add this to their collection. Recommended for 18+ due to adult language and sexual content.
