"I would never forgive myself if something happened to another man I cared about because I'd been careless and given in to temptation." ~ Zander

The last thing I was looking for was a relationship, then I laid eyes on a dancer at a nightclub and my entire world was flipped upside down. Kai is everything I've ever wanted, but shouldn't have. I'm haunted by a past I can't seem to break free from, and I'm not sure I can be the man Kai deserves. He makes me want to try, but I worry that I'm broken beyond repair.

"There was already a big enough stigma attached to being a go-go dancer, but add being a webcam model to the mix and people tended to assume things about me." ~ Kai

School, dance, cam, repeat. My life was on a constant loop as I struggled to keep my head above water. After seeing Zander in the crowd while I was dancing, I knew I had to meet the handsome stranger who took my breath away. I don't know if I'm the right man to help set him free from his pain, but I'm going to do everything I can to try and help him see that the past doesn't have to define his future.

Carra's Review

Breaking Free really fits so well into this series of hurt/comfort M/M romances.  Zander is broken after a terrible loss, and doesn’t want to get involved with anyone past a hookup—wrongly blaming himself for what’s happened in the past.  Kai doesn’t have much time for anything but school and work thanks to his personal situation, so doesn’t really get involved with anyone either.  But then they find each other.

Zander and Kai are amazing together, full of passion and repeatedly drawn to one another.  They’re the proverbial puzzle pieces fitting together, and I loved watching their relationship unfold in this story.  Their intimate scenes are beyond hot, and the rest of the time they can get quite emotional—all without being overly sappy.

I’m already a fan of this series after reading the first two books, and I loved getting to see the characters from those stories here as well.  They all are so supportive of each other, making the guys from the bar all feel like one big family.

There’s a touch of drama near the end thanks to one of Kai’s “fans”, and while this part of the plot is touched on several times throughout the story, the climactic scene for it actual is over rather quickly.  Apart from that, the rest of the story focused on Zander and Kai’s developing relationship which while at first started off hot and furious, later evolved to a slower, more natural pace.

I loved this latest addition to the Den Boys series, and Breaking Free was a 4.5-star read for me.  It’s one I definitely recommend, particularly if you’re a fan of the M/M romance hurt/comfort trope.  This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and toe-curling sexual content.
